he's too old for the fla job--they will be looking for a coach in his 40s or early 50s

Florida fans would riot in the streets. Will not happen. And Cutcliffe is comfortable where he is anyway.

This. Plus, that was his 1st HC gig. He would be scary at UF.

The 1st HC gig point is solid...people are too quick to dismiss a coach who isn't an immediate success...SOMETIMES they learn from what DIDN'T work. Pete Carroll was the predecessor to Bill Belichick at NE and didn't light the world on fire...the same Belichick wasn't a genius at Cleveland. Now he's the standard and Carroll is in the conversation. Notice I'm using pro examples...in major college programs I can't think of a second chance success story...I know one exists. FWIW I think Cut stays at Duke...he loves to teach and Durham seems perfect for that.

Looking over a list of potential candidates for the Florida gig, hoping (and expecting) not to see Butch Jones name on any of them. I don't see any names that really scare me. The one that caught my attention was David Cutcliffe. I honestly don't see this happening (my personal opinion), but if it did, how would you feel about it? There aren't too many people that don't respect what Cutcliffe has done as a coach. I know I was a little disappointed when he didn't come back to Tennessee, because he would have had some success, with possibly a limited ceiling.

Here's the link with his name mentioned, with a couple other strange candidates.... Eight candidates to replace Will Muschamp at Florida - NFL.com

Cue the "They can have him" comments...

Coach Cutcliffe is more than happy at Duke and everyone, including the alumni, LOVES him and the job he's doing. He and Hamilton were never on the same page.

Hmmm, possibly Orgeron (hate to say it cause I don't think he's a good head coach) who successfully coached USC at the end of last season. RichRod had success, went to Michigan and failed, and now is successful again (and also a potential candidate for Florida, but I don't see that one happening either).

Kurt Roper is already there.

....I'd welcome the challenge like a true volunteer would.

If I remember correctly, he would have come here, but he was going to come only on the condition that he could bring his entire staff with him or possibly needed a certain amount of money for his staff and UT wasn't willing to meet his demands. Maybe this is wrong, and come to think of it, Butch brought his staff with him....

Different AD in those examples though...and I always felt Hamilton only offered Cut the job due to alumni/booster pressure and intentionally sabatogedthe process with those conditions.

I would feel good for him. Wouldn't understand why he would leave Duke but still good for him.

Hear from my Illini fan nephew that Ogre is a leading candidate in Champaign...unlike Cut, he totally failed at Ole Miss but showed a little something at USC as you pointed out...I remember hearing he micromanaged everything in Oxford (ala Dooley) and delegated better last year...you may be correct in advance if he gets a chance.

It wouldn't bother me personally. He had several great years here. But coaches are mercenaries. He actually went to school at Alabama by here. He just worked here. I do Feel he would succeed there but I don't know he has the National Championship contender upside Florida will go after.

What would really suck worse. Is every once in awhile Peyton goes and throws with Dukes receivers. You know how sickening that would be of Peyton throwing with Gators

He did plenty of that in college

Oh, come on. If you're going to swing away at an 80 mile an hour fastball down the heart of the plate at least get creative...Maybe Tony George could let Peyton know how his arm is holding up after all these years? Your post was a little lazy, imo. :wink2:

Don't think Carroll is going anywhere soon. Stoops is my top guess, but still only 20% chance in my book. Mullen's job if he wanted it. Lane is in there somewhere. Looks like a mastermind O guy right now with Sims improvement, can recruit and his wife is a FLA grad. His college resume is not as bad as people want to pretend. His USC gig not that bad considering he had so many fewer scholarship players than another team in the country, and he inherited maybe the most overhyped QB in history since Maranovich. Really fairly amazing recruiting on his part to have some few scholarships yet still able to convince so many 5 starts to come anyway when it was clear they were a few years away from being able to compete at the highest level. Don't get me wrong, I have deep resentment for the guy (although I understand why he left for USC)

Bud I'd take Barkley over Bray any day of the week. And I say that as a Bray liker.

David Cutcliff's name gaining traction on sportstalk down here. Lord that would suck. Anybody but the gators.

The only way that that happens is if all of the other desired candidates tell Florida "No".

Florida wants to go after a successful coach and one who is a rock star. Look for them to approach Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll & Harbaugh.

As people turn Florida down, then they will go to #9 or # 10 on their list. This is likely where Cutcliff would be a serious candidate. Citcliff's age is the only thing that is really hurting him, at this point.

The rumors here are as crazy as the Gator boards.

Ummm.... this isn't a volnation rumor. This is a list of names from NFL.com of potential replacements for your school. The only reason this "rumor" is on Volnation is that Coach Cut is a former UT coach. Just like back in the day when Fulmer left, Spurrier was listed as a potential name to replace him at UT, and I am sure the Florida message boards discussed it then.

Can't imagine him leaving Duke. He's rejected numerous overtures already. Don't think he's ever going to forget leading Ole Miss back to prominence and getting fired after one poor rebuilding season. Florida has even higher expectations than Ole Miss.

Sure, Cut will make more at Florida, but everything thus far suggests he's more interested in building a program and creating a legacy than simply taking the highest amount of money available.
