'18 SC WR Bryce Thompson (UT commit 5/30/18)

Not all of them quit as aggressively as he did. I'm sure we all forgive him for it. But I don't think all of us forgot about it.

Some quit more aggressively than he did. Some literally quit mid-season. Some used injury excuse. Some just didn’t give full effort.

I’ve said it several times before, I’m not judging any of these kids during that time frame.

We need him more at corner than at receiver. We're in bad shape there. I've always believed in putting your best athletes on defense.

We lack experience at cb but we don't know if we are in bad shape. We lack experience at wr also. Thompson is a guy who needs touches.

I'm not judging them either. But there is a reason he had to go through what he did this spring just to get a chance to be on the team again. Pruitt didn't make anyone else do so much just to have a chance to put on the uniform again. By all accounts he earned it back and has potential to be one of our better players. But I don't think he will automatically be given the starting job unless he improves as a player as well. He hasn't even practiced since before last season so he will have to do a lot on his own before fall camp. And hopefully make big strides in camp.

Callaway, Byrd, and Johnson are all better WRs.

Y’all think JJ is great because of 2 plays. One where the DB slipped and he almost dropped a wide open catch. The other was truly a great play. But overall he isn’t that good

This is delusional. Can we at least let any of those guys make at least one iconic catch/play against our biggest rivals before we crown them better than the guy who has made 2? Also, I’d at least add 1 more great catch that you seem to have forgotten, the acrobatic catch in the 2016 Florida game that finally got the team going offensively and gave the guys some juice....the one on the skinny post where he came back on an underthrown ball and caught it over the DB. Prior to that, our receivers had dropped like 4-5 balls in a row iirc.

Btw, the “one where the DB slipped and he almost dropped the ball”?? Wow dude, you really dislike the guy if that’s how you saw that play. JJ juked Tabor causing him to nearly fall down, and then went and got a ball thrown to his outside shoulder on the sideline....didn’t catch it clean but he quickly pulled the ball in and ran another 40 yards for the touchdown. I think you must be the only Vol fan in the country who thought he didn’t “do anything” on that play.

Nobody is saying that JJ is great or that he’s a burner. But he’s easily one of the 3 best WRs on this team, and has done more than any other on the roster. And like or not, which you apparently don’t, he’ll be one of the 3 starters and likely the main target for JG come September.

Ummmm my bad. Nick was talking about JJ. I thought he was talking about Byrd, because the conversation had switched to Byrd at one point. I couldn’t understand why Byrd was being more ridiculed for “quitting” than some others.

Evidently I need to read more carefully

Remember that time JJ destroyed Trent Thompson? Cuz I do.

reminded me of that hit Ed Mcaffery laid on a Green Bay defender.

or any # of Hines Ward blocks on defenders....

physical WR's that will out work for a ball, AND be physical in run blocking or down field blocking will find their way on the field.

We don’t go 4 and ****ing 8 with JJ. We don’t lose to all 3 of Kentucky, Florida and South Carolina with him. Probably win 2/3 if not all 3. Last play of the USCjr game, JG’s not throwing to Palmer. The Dog gets the ball and catches it. And the vast majority of Tennessee fans know he isn’t elite, but he’s definitely a solid #2 SEC receiver.

And we are also still stuck with Lyle and don't have the all star coaching staff we have now. Last year sucked but you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

Let me break this down for you... 1.) Tabor slipped because JJ is a dog. (What do I mean by that) He is the best SEC WR at attacking the ball so a slant or drag or anything like that would be really hard to defend out of phase so Tabor cheated in phase to take away the 3 step game (quick passes) he had to cheat over a little more than normal because of Jennings route running skills (he doesn’t roll over a lot on routes, he cuts well)

Now, it was second and I think three or something short which suggests a short pass or a run so Jennings sold the route very well cut out of his break point fluid enough that he carried his speed through it to beat his man (tabor). His route was called sluggo (slant and go) so he went streaking down the bottom of the numbers to give enough room for Dobbs to drop it in (good technique on Jennings) he then juggled and then snatched it one handed around his shoulder and out ran his man for a TD.

2.) He caught a hailmary at the end of the game because he is a man. My skills are better than yours go home type of catch...

So, you are incorrect sir.

Agree!! Yea I thought he said he would get first look at his preferred position, WR? I haven't seen much of his film so I don't know if WR or CB is his best position, but he seems to prefer WR. But also said he would be willing to play either. Really outside of Callaway, Johnson and Jennings, we have very little WR production. Byrd has potential, but will it ever click for him? I really like Williams speed if he can stay healthy and the size Tillman brings. Palmer, Jones, Murphy and Henderson are unknowns for the most part. So I can definitely see atleast one of Thompson and Taylor staying at WR. We need atleast 1 Home-run WR to emerge this season.
