'18 SC WR Bryce Thompson (UT commit 5/30/18)

I would like to see both Jennings and Thompson on defense.

We need Jennings's experience at WR. We have equally limited experience at WR and the Secondary. We could use Jennings's leadership on offense though. Outside of Jennings 57 rec-746 yds-7TD, Brandon Johnson 44 Rec-575 yds-1TD, M.Callaway 25 Rec-419 Yds-5TD and Byrd( Most in his Fr Yr)- 18 Rec-236 Yds-1TD we have a combined 10 Rec--110Yds-0TDs from Palmer,Murphy,Williams, Taylor,Tillman,Henderson,Jones and Thompson. At TE we have 6 Rec-65 yards - 0 TD's. Wood- Anderson should help there. But if Jennings got moved, our most productive WR is gone. Hopefully a couple of the young WR's breakout this yr. Also hoping the JUCO DB wins one of the jobs.

I think WR is one of our strongest position groups. The receivers should be a lot more productive this year. We should be solid at TE, too, even with Warren redshirting.

That JUCO corner is huge and brings the Thunder I see it being hard to keep him off the field this year.

The potential is there but outside of Jennings,Johnson and Callaway there's very little production. Even those 3 haven't been consistent. Callaway will have a good game then disappear for a few games. Jennings and Johnson have had issues with dropping the ball at times. Hopefully real coaching brings out better and more consistent WR play. Just like TE, the potential is there but we have very little catching production from them. Wood-Anderson should be a day 1 starter at TE and couldput up good receiving numbers. Really looking forward to Williams staying healthy at WR with all of his speed and the matchup problems Tillman can cause with his size.

Agreed! I really will be surprised if he doesn't lock down one corner job. He's 6'0 200 lbs so he's got some size to him that JP likes.

They weren't productive last year. We saw shaky fundamentals.. poor route running... inaccurate passes... inconsistent effort... and a lack of leadership and motivation. The QB and WR were out of sync a lot, and the receivers weren't aggressive. I think part of that was the way they practiced and the QB situation. I expect a good deal of that will be cleaned up this year.

We have high-potential talent two-deep and no one is promised a spot. They'll have to earn it, and more competition should make everyone better. I'm optimistic about our receivers, especially if we can get the QB position settled in fall camp.

I agree 100%. Beard had no business being the WR coach. I definitely think we have a potential to be really good at WR, they just have to prove it. We also won't be rotating as many as Butch did not will they have to block near as much. And that God awful playcalling is gone. We should see much better route running, less drops and just a much better coached group.

Brandon dropped one pass all year he is your best wr pound for pound.

The one that cost us the South Carolina game?

Great day...lighten up!! It’s in the past...let it go. You act like he was wide open. Should he have caught it? Yeah maybe. Was it a tough catch no matter the circumstances? Absolutely.

Didn’t he only catch 7 passes all year?

Edit: that was 2 years ago. My fault. Makes the only 1 dropped pass more impressive.

Idk if Brandon Johnson is our best receiver pound for pound, but I do think his best playing years are ahead of him.

Imo he’s a very smooth receiver and easy to underestimate. I think he ends up playing on Sunday’s.

Was that the “ONE drop” his cousin acknowledged tho? Fair question.

Dude no need to blindly defend your nephew or cousin or whatever it is just because you are blood doesn’t mean anything

We have a bunch of talented under achieving wide receivers on this team. Not a single one of them on any nfl teams radar and for good reason - they’ve flat out been mediocre for the past 2 years since Malone left.

I don’t care who’s the best of this bunch until someone shows me they can put together 700+ yards and 7+ TD’s in a season.

And I think that happens this year. If it’s Brandon, cool. If not, cool. Just put up, or shut up

I agree. He's been the most reliable game in and out. Callaway has the potential but he will have a good game then disappear a few games then make an appearance again. Definitely the reason he led the receiver's in reception's. He's not the fastest or most athletic WR but he's steady and a good possession receiver.
