'19 SC WR/DB Kenney Solomon (Tennessee signee)

The 6-foot, 180-pound corner visited Tennessee unofficially two weeks ago. The Myrtle Beach corner is an interesting prospect, but its notable that Tennessee’s staff has never gone in-home with Solomon, meaning he still is a blueshirt candidate. Pruitt loves Solomon’s speed (he clocked a 4.42 at Duke’s summer camp) and skill-set as a returner. He cancelled an official visit to Colorado this weekend. Tennessee is definitely trending here, with Rutgers and Louisville also in the mix.

Depends on one's definition of time then. Either way we're not there right now.
I don't think he's different than any other coach. In general, a coach at a high profile program like UT has to prove something within the first 3 years. Pruitt's hole was pretty deep but based on history across CFB... it includes winning 10 games and can't include but one Mulligan. Pruitt already got his. So if he's going to keep momentum going and have a reasonably high survival possibility... he needs to win 8 or a minimum of 7 this year followed by 10 in '20. Or... he could shock the world, get some really good breaks, and win 10 this year. Either way... a coach needs early success to keep recruiting rolling and especially when the program is dependent on out of state talent.

This is like those win possibility % that ESPN has started giving and updating throughout games. If Pruitt has a non-winning regular season this year followed by a mediocre 3rd year then his survival probability goes into the single digits.

The fact that Colorado was recruiting this kid gives me some hope. They have done a good job the last few years of producing DB's to the pros, so they seem to know how to evaluate some under the radar talent at the position.

i'm just not going to draw lines around it anymore. we've put ourselves in this box before and it just never works out.

he's either going to get us where we want to be or he won't. not saying it should take 10 years or something. but i'm not going to do the whole "if by year 3 or 4 he hasn't done x, then y". generally, you don't need the ultimatum, those kind of things take care of themselves.

i feel like we're gonna know if this guy is good or not by the end of this year or next, w/out having to set a floor for the record.

Plus it's Mel Tucker. I trust Pruitt and Tucker Evaluations on a DB.

Also Tucker didn’t pull the kid out of thin air. Had to have been on UGA’s radar...maybe as a fallback.

Agreed. One thing I notice is he pulled this one out of his hate late and maybe in part to what happened with Young last yr. he probably wishes we waitied a tad longer to publicize jordan young instead of giving others time to evaluate

Forgot all about Tucker at Colorado. Yeah, if both Pruitt and Tucker want this kid, I'm definitely cool with signing him. Pruitt's evals are good enough for me; but, just saying...

I hope you understand that I'm not drawing a personal line in the sand. I don't really even think in those terms. I've just watched coaches flare out when they don't have early success. There are a few exceptions but most go the route of Jones. Underperform in those first 3 years... and the recruits stop listening to promises of future greatness and go to the other "new kid in town" promising glory.

gotcha. and the funny thing is, Jones had success. he did put records on the table that showed progression. he got the recruiting rankings we all wanted.

and he still flamed out badly.

i don't think there's a real "formula" here to guague Pruitt's success, at lesat this early on.....and especially if you're going to compare it to Jones and BSIA. at this point, i'm not necessarily against it taking a tad longer to rebuild it, if the success can be sustained longer down the road.

we just won't know the answer to that for a while, which is why the patience factor is going to be key. cause if folks are sitting here in year 4 and not happy with 8 or 9 wins at that point, they may be missing the boat. so paying attention to the "how" insteadd of the "what" seems more prudent at this point.

having said all that.......i'd be ok with 20 being a big time break out season. :) realistically, i think 21 is probably going to be a better guage, given where we are now, and not knowing a thing about how the next two cycles pan out.

Lol they have absolutely no idea. Simonton said something completely different than this.

I love how in the dark this coaching staff has most of the media here.
I do too. You know other schools throw curveballs because they have access just like we do. That's why I didn't approve of Marker's strategy when he "first" started posting. Legit information all the time is a bad thing. AV does it right. Many times silence from him is a good thing. Just a few nuggets to keep us from imploding on our own devices.

The problem with it taking "some time" is that lack of early results will kill recruiting which will make more time unworthy of the investment.

I like Pruitt. I think he's a good coach of the game. But he needs players and to get players he has to show he can coach. When the new shine wears off... there better be something real there.

With Pruitt, I think "something real" is what we see and what we get. The real needs to get more wins pdq. Now that I stated the obvious, I go.

Bass

maybe late nights are gettin' to him.

I thought he said they may offer him as a back up if all goes South as is foreseen.
