'19 SC WR/DB Kenney Solomon (Tennessee signee)

Maybe I misunderstood but I could’ve sworn he said walk on

He did. Price suggested he might be a walk on, how we had him visit during a weekend when a number of walk on candidates were there. There was some banter about how Solomon (paraphrasing as I understood it) might have said full scholly when its not really, and how it'll be resolved soon enough what the offer was.

They were talking about how the staff has stated they would not reach for players like we did last year, but how taking a guy like Solomon is doing exactly that.

I wonder if it would be possible, albeit potentially shady, to convince this kid as a PWO and then BAM put him on scholarship next season or so.

Then he'd just count against the 85 and not this year or next years 25, right?

Wait, you mean tell him he will pay his own way, then surprise him with a scholly? How is that shady?

There is no such loophole, if I understand you correctly.

By "next season" you mean 2019-2020? That is just the same as blueshirting. He would be a 2019 signee, initial counter 2020. Like Harris. He is a suggested blueshirt anyway iirc he has n3ot been "recruited".

If by next season you mean 2020-2021, then that IS a a non-initial counter scholarship as you mention (counts toward the 85 limit only). This is the new rule, 1 year of residence. It used to be 2 before you could give a scholarship without being an initial counter. But I don't see how that is tricky or shady. Very normal in fact.

I think they have to be on the roster at least two seasons first. RS and a RS freshman season gets you there. This kid and Rinke. I think this kid has more options tho.

I don't think he's different than any other coach. In general, a coach at a high profile program like UT has to prove something within the first 3 years. Pruitt's hole was pretty deep but based on history across CFB... it includes winning 10 games and can't include but one Mulligan. Pruitt already got his. So if he's going to keep momentum going and have a reasonably high survival possibility... he needs to win 8 or a minimum of 7 this year followed by 10 in '20. Or... he could shock the world, get some really good breaks, and win 10 this year. Either way... a coach needs early success to keep recruiting rolling and especially when the program is dependent on out of state talent.

This is like those win possibility % that ESPN has started giving and updating throughout games. If Pruitt has a non-winning regular season this year followed by a mediocre 3rd year then his survival probability goes into the single digits.

Laughable. Pruitt is facing a situation that no UT coach ever has. Again you post the insane year 3 crap.

Darnell + Solomon, good for ~13th - 15th, save the other spots for 2020? Sounds good lets get to work.
To hell with the rankings, but that's going to be an extremely disappointing finish. I was really hoping they'd be able to finish with Wright, To'oto'o, Robinson and swap Cox for Green and take Solomon as a PWO or blueshirt

Yeah... the lessons of history are "insane".

And no, he sin't facing a situation substantially worse than Kiffin, Dooley, or Jones.

What do you mean? We're those not realistic expectations? Isn't Green's recruitment expected to go past signing day and Cox expected to go to Auburn? They should've had To'oto'o locked up weeks ago unless he's staying out west and should've been going hard after Robinson. Instead it's going to just be Wright and Solomon. Wright is definitely a huge pickup, but anyone that says they're happy with a Wright and Solomon finish with the players we still had a shot at is full of s***. Especially after letting Lakia Henry get away thinking they had To'oto'o in the bag. That's the 3rd time it's happened too. First they slow played Moore and let the number 2 player in the state in Williams get away because they thought they had better options on board. Now they let their most ready LB commit bolt because they thought they had To'oto'o. Sure there are other factors in play, but it's not a good look. I know it doesn't matter what I think, but I've got to admit it's very concerning

"Realistic" I take as over 50% confidence, so no.

Maybe toots at one point was 50%. Same with Russ. Solomon and Green were some % from 10-50. So best case your scenario happens 6% of the time. So, no, not realistic.

Used to be 2. Now 1.

What situation is that?
Imo, time.

Car analogy, Pontiac. Put out a great product like the GTO, everyone is wanting to buy in (UT glory years).
Slip in product a few years, you can sell it as an oops and introduce some flash like the wide track stuff, met with hope (Jones) and sell returning to the good ol days.

But a bad product and poor management prevail and it becomes increasingly difficult to sell to the lifeblood customers. (Recruits in fb).
The more time that passes from real success, the more difficult it becomes to reorganize, rebuild and revamp.
We're a university, so obviously we're not being discontinued. But "more difficult" applies imo.

Solution. Perform above par with the talent you get, speed up the belief in product.
I'm not sold on a return to glory in 3 years (definitely not 2) but do agree that we should know what the forecast looks like.

Why does it seem like every year we have to compromise our expectations? No way to slice it other than this is a disappointing finish. Chances are, behind closed doors, Jeremy Pruitt and staff feel the same way and know they have to do better.

12th- 15th won’t cut it when rival schools are out-recruiting us. ‘20 signing class has to be better, IMO.

It's perspective....

If Early Signing Day didn't occur, and tomorrow we signed the likes of Wright, Crouch, Keyton, Morris, Fields, et cetera.... we'd all be ecstatic.

But since we've already signed those kids and Wright is basically a forgone conclusion that we take his signing for granted, not getting anything else feels disappointing.

Look at all the classes ahead of us. All of them had significantly better than 5-7 seasons.

It's all perspective.

they were not realistic and if you got your hopes up its on you.
