'19 SC WR/DB Kenney Solomon (Tennessee signee)

Why does it seem like every year we have to compromise our expectations? No way to slice it other than this is a disappointing finish. Chances are, behind closed doors, Jeremy Pruitt and staff feel the same way and know they have to do better.

12th- 15th won’t cut it when rival schools are out-recruiting us. ‘20 signing class has to be better, IMO.

How is this a disappointing finish? What did you honestly expect after 5-7?

It's perspective....

If Early Signing Day didn't occur, and tomorrow we signed the likes of Wright, Crouch, Keyton, Morris, Fields, et cetera.... we'd all be ecstatic.

But since we've already signed those kids and Wright is basically a forgone conclusion that we take his signing for granted, not getting anything else feels disappointing.

Look at all the classes ahead of us. All of them had significantly better than 5-7 seasons.

It's all perspective.
This.

I can guess their answer...

Something either like "elite coaches always get top classes" or "ut was a top program." Maybe...my favorite..."Pruitt let all the in-state talent go."

Tennessee hasn't been an elite program since the early 2000s. People are only holding on to the glory days expecting that to be relevant today.

These are the same type of people who run a mile and look down to see if their six pack is coming in yet.

They want a Bama/UGA level class but ignore the fact that we've got to build a talent base that can consistently beat UK, Vandy, and Mizzou first.

Then they brag about being the realistic ones lol.

Josh Norman was a 2 star DB too. SC is very very underrated when it comes to talent it produces especially DBs and WRs

I play with josh Norman he was supposed to go to Georgia but had grade issues. The guy can’t read and wasn’t very fast but was a hard worker and good football iq. Should’ve stayed with the panthers. He would’ve played for 15 years. With that being said this kid has more athleticism than josh. I like him.

Imo, time.

Car analogy, Pontiac. Put out a great product like the GTO, everyone is wanting to buy in (UT glory years).
Slip in product a few years, you can sell it as an oops and introduce some flash like the wide track stuff, met with hope (Jones) and sell returning to the good ol days.

But a bad product and poor management prevail and it becomes increasingly difficult to sell to the lifeblood customers. (Recruits in fb).
The more time that passes from real success, the more difficult it becomes to reorganize, rebuild and revamp.
We're a university, so obviously we're not being discontinued. But "more difficult" applies imo.

Solution. Perform above par with the talent you get, speed up the belief in product.
I'm not sold on a return to glory in 3 years (definitely not 2) but do agree that we should know what the forecast looks like.
Always appreciate a finely handcrafted relatable analogy. 😎

Socastee defensive coordinator Al Hooker discussed Solomon with Vols Wire.

“He is a man coverage type cornerback,” Hooker said of Solomon. “He can be a shutdown corner and has pure electric speed. The speed factor in him is an x-factor. He is a playmaker and started three years on varsity for us. He started as a sophomore on defense and his junior year he started to play on offense. His senior season he never came off the field.

“He is a tough kid and plays very hard. His speed is electric and his hands are real soft. He has been running punts and kickoffs. For us he would be in jet motion sweeps getting handoffs, too.”

Solomon was originally targeted by Tennessee and Director of Player Personnel Drew Hughes and Assistant Director of Player Personnel Danny Stiff. Solomon’s recruitment has taken off since and now has Power 5 offers from Colorado, Louisville, Rutgers and Tennessee.

“His speed always had people’s attention,” Hooker said of Solomon being discovered. “He had some offers early, but not the caliber of what he has been dealing with the last month in Colorado, Tennessee and Louisville. He’s had some long term offers that he had held off on as interest grew and grew. Things have picked up tremendously for him in the last month.”

Sounds like another Marquez White situation.

Pruitt was instrumental in that one, too.

Yeah genuine question. Said a situation no other UT coach ever has had. Just curious what is unique about this, versus what Jones had to overcome. It sure isn't worse.

So did Jones walk into a program that had zero strength and conditioning for almost 2 years? No. Did Butch have to follow a 4-8 team with the worst OL in modern school history? No. Was Butch a first time HC that had to completely rebuild not only the team but losing mentality? No. No UT coach walked into what Pruitt did.

And you have made a big deal about Jimbo Fisher out recruiting Pruitt? I mean good grief.

As to Fisher, what big deal did I make? I made one post posing the question. Such an overreaction lol.

Jones easily walked into just as bad. Maybe you don't remember, but it was even worse on a program level. Financials, apr, it was all crap. 4 straight losing seasons vs 1, not even a close comparison. We just had success in 14-16, a mere year removed.

Hell Dooley was hired at the last moment and Kiffin's class completely screwed us over. Fan base divided over Phil. Not any better.

This isn't that unique to recent UT history. It's a bad situation to come into, but we've been doing this for a decade now. At least the program is doing better and we are fully investing needed resources.

Maybe you don't believe Fulmer as AD is a great situation for AD, but I do. Great for Pruitt. Makes things easier when your AD is all in on football.

Talking about firing before his 2nd NSD. Not even spring practice or half way into 2nd season. Crazy like Patrick Swayze.
It’s a simple discussion. Nobody calling for Pruitt’s firing, we all want him to succeed. Quite honestly, while there is certainly quality in this and last year’s classes, they’re falling a little short of where they need to be to see a quick turnaround.

Who would you replace. Who knows what will happen on NSD and thereafter like last year. I like who we got this year. No complaints from T MF'ing DOG.
