Scariest movies you've ever seen?

Another Italian horror gem

Gates of Hell and that poor s.o.b. in the drill scene.

Need I ask if you are a Dario Argento fan? Suspiria and Inferno in the Three Sisters trilogy were well made art house horror.

Is that the one where the dude from Jurassic Park gets his eyes removed (can't remember if he did it himself or not)?

Indeed. He just wanted to marry a nice, round American woman and raise rabbits for her to cook along with getting a recreational vehicle. Dude just wanted to live in Montana and travel state to state. No papers.

Another classic that scared me as a young kid.

The Changeling

The one starring George C. Scott.

ABSOLUTELY! That was easily the first horror movie that got me when I was younger.

The Conjuring and Conjuring 2 are BRILLIANT. Love both!

Recently saw Lights Out... it's pretty damn good as well.

Also saw Don't Breath a few weeks ago. That will mess you up as well.

Love good horror movies!

So don't breath is good? It's hard to figure out which new ones are decent just from previews

You really need to watch the entire film to grasp the full power of that ending.

I caught this movie for the first time around 2008. You are right. I wasn't really scared but that ending really pulled my throat into my stomach. For the next year any time some mentioned key words like camp... I had finally forgotten that horrific experience. So thanks for that!

really...only thing ive ever been terrified after from was The Strangers.

i guess what scares me most isn't the supernatural or things i believe to not be real...but moreso the capability within human beings to be monsters.

Arachnophobia. Saw it when I was 9. Shouldn't have gone but older kids took me and I thought that was cool. Messed me up for life. All the creepy ways they found to kill people was too much for my developing brain. Cannot stand spiders, have found some brown recluses in our house and the thought of them crawling around at night on the floor or getting in my shoes keeps me up. Wife handles spider removal. I would rather be covered in snakes than have a spider anywhere close to me.

Yeah, I tend to agree (though I'm surprised 'The Ring' hasn't been mentioned in this thread). I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about 'The Blair Witch Project' but I think it worked because similar to 'The Strangers' it exploited the sense of vulnerability that exists in all of us. We have all been alone at night when we were startled by a noise we would easily ignore during the day. 'When a Stranger Calls' (the original before mobile phones and caller ID) also strikes a nerve along those lines. As a kid in the 80's, I used to call my older sister when she was babysitting and say in a deep voice, "Why don't you check the children?"... Freaked her out every time even though she knew it was coming.

Also, a lot of horror movies claim to be based on true events. 'Psycho' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' both claim to be based on world class sicko Ed Gein of Wisconsin but they don't really have anything to do with his actual crimes. 'The Strangers' is at least a best guess as to what happened in the Keddie Murders case (sometimes known as Cabin 28) on April 12, 1981 in rural California. That really adds to the tension of the movie, imo.

Strangers didn't bother me in the least. In fact I was annoyed how the home owners were so futile.

when i was a kid it was nightmare on elm street. the most recent movie that scared the crap out of me was The Woman In Black. i saw it at the theater and actually yelled during of the scenes. everyone started laughing. that is definitely a scary movie.

Is it worse than Book of Shadows? Because that flick was garbage.

I can't saw it that bad but more or less the first movie again but this time they tried to make it more of a movie. I can't imagine it making more than a week in theatres.

I enjoyed the Ring but it didn't scare me because I don't watch VHS any more.

House on Haunted Hill (late 90s version) scared the crap out of me.

And of course there's the Exorcist. To this day that movie makes me scared.

The Shining. You have an uneasy feeling that whole movie.
