SEC Championship Game thread

We didn't make shots. I think we got good looks. We couldn't even make FTs. When we are winning no one says anything but as soon as we lose the negativity comes.

Its how you win these same problems are there and overlooked when we win, now everyone is looking aound like what happen...nothing has changed!!

We will continue to look good against average teams until next year when I talent goes up

pretty bad coaching when you are 7-8 points behind and you are still having your too small team trying to score in the paint while they are gassed. Especially when you have 2 freshman who are supposed to be 3pt shooters available who could come in and give you a chance to catch up. They may not be able to guard a turnip but damn, let them shoot the ball.

the whole last 10 minutes of the game, middleton, Dunbar and nared should have been running & gunning.

I think we can make it to Tampa. We struggle win we play a team with a big front court or who has a player like Lloyd.

I have said it many times on this board and yes she had problem when she was on the court but we played well in the first half as a team. Some how Holly needs to play Moore at the 5 more. I understand she a few turnovers but to me it look more like nerves. Let her play her way thur them. There is no question we can play a get away with Graves at the 5 against teams that are not that good. But against the top teams ? I also think moving Jordan to the 2 might be the best move against a top team.

I see the old "blame the coach" crowd is already out. Not the coaches fault that Ariel and Graves can't make shots or FT's. Too much height on SC. Lady Vols have played hard though, and I wish them the best in the NCAA's.

The "coach has no control or responsibility" crowd is out too. I've never understood this mindset. If it's not the coach's fault we played poorly or can't shoot then why do we have one? We could save $500k per year and just let the team play. Just need a janitor to unlock the gym and someone to drive the bus to away games. Hell we don't even need that, give the girls keys and they unlock and drive themselves.

what are the Lady Vols going to do when the 50 to 70 year old women of a certain small demographic die off and obviously do not hand down their love of the Lady Vols to their children...all I ever see in the crowd...especially on the road

I was at the game and there were ALOT of fans that weren't 50-70 year old women! Myself included.

Holly has to share some of blame. Sc packed the paint and dared us to shoot threes. Well we didn't even attempt that but made futile after futile attempt at trying to go inside when it was evident that was useless. Holly coached a bad game, period. I think overall holly did a great job this season

When only 1 of our 3 guards could hit the broad side of a barn today, I don't see how shooting more 3's was going to help us. Ariel was 4-25 for the tourney and 0-6 today. Draya's airballs weren't pretty. SC outshot us, and out-rebounded us.

I didn't understand being down what ten points with right at under three min remaining we weren't even attempting a three point shot to at least cut into the lead. Besides Reynolds who took one, no one else did. Instead they forced it inside time after time. That's where I blame holly. Holly def wasn't to blame for the piss poor shooting.

it is hard to blame the coaches for piss poor shooting, the players have to make some shots

So going inside when they had it packed was going to do us much better?? Gotta go with the averages here. Jordan was shooting it well today and burdick has been shooting the three well. Also, Middleton or Dunbar could have been brought in to shoot some threes. Middleton did hit a three today. There were other options, but going inside to try and make impossible shots wasn't a good one, especially being down double digits with like two and a half min left

We can't if we end up in the same bracket as UConn, which is Creme's current projection. That's why we really needed to win this game and ensure we got a 1-seed.

I thought we had a good game plan today. For thirty minutes we were even with them on the boards. Our downfall in the game was poor shooting both at the line and from the field. SC really packed the paint and it was up to our players to knock down some threes and make them spread out. We didn't even try we kept trying to get it inside and that was Holly's only bad call today.

Massengale IS like Simmons, I'm sorry to say, in that neither one of them are/were big-game players. Not the best players to begin with--and then neither of them mentally tough enough to play well in big games. Mass was terrible for a long stretch of the year--then got hot very late in the year--but she reverted to form in the tournament. Simmons almost always shot poorly in big games.

We had ZERO treys in the second half, I believe--none. Major problem. Cannot beat a good team with no threes in a half.

The other problem was Burdick: She is our best player. We HAVE to get 14+ from her to be good offensively. We needed her mid-range jumpers against a team that has a lot of size inside. Did she even score in the second half? Had 6 points for the game. I know she had at least 4 in the first half, so at most she scored 2 in the second half--IF THAT.

We also got very few points from the free-throw line--6 for the game. That is very low for us.

We started well, played well for most of the first half, and then started to get very tentative on offense and could not regain any tempo or confidence.

The reason Moore, Dunbar, Middleton are not ready to play is because they did not get enough minutes early in the year you can't expect much from them this late Period!

The Creme projection doesn't make sense. How could the number one overall seed play the number two overall seed. I'm not saying it want happen, but they are supposed to play the number 8 seed which would be Florida State or maybe Oregon State. We should be in with Maryland.

and out ref'ed

Not sure this can be reasonably stated when USC had the more fouls called on them and UT shot the more free throws. However USC MADE more FTs than UT, which IMO was a sign of things for the LVs.

Unless you are of the notion that UT should have gotten a ridiculously overwhelming % of the calls their way in a physical game, which would not fall under the category of reason...they already got the majority of calls their way...

I thought the difference was SC's man(woman)-defense, they were quick, and guarded the perimeter well. We rarely had a shot without a hand in our face.

I thought our zone worked well in the 1st half, sagging in on SC's bigs. I also thought we should have fouled them more on the inside, too many uncontested shots in there.

Reynolds is a money player, need to get her the ball more. She's good for 20+ a night, if we get her the ball more often.

And with all honesty... I absolutely love Cierra and Ariel but they're just not elite at their position. They're very good AVERAGE players. Hence, the good games against average -pretty good teams. When we run into teams with ELITE players, we lose or struggle. Without Izzy, its going to be hard to beat teams because Izzy was on the only one on the team that was ELITE at her position. You win championships with ELITE players.

I couldn't agree more. It's common sense really. To loosen up the paint ya gotta hit some threes.

recruit some cute girls like Britanny Jackson, Sydney Smallbone, Angie Bjorkland and Candace Parker then maybe some 50-70 year old men will show up too.

The blame is going all around today. From what I saw Jordan got us the lead with 4mins to go in the first, then was subbed out. Came back in with 25 secs to go, which was too late because USC went on a run and we had no one step up when she was out. Missed a lot of easy shots around the rim. What I don't understand from Holly is that she didn't give Moore that much time in the 2nd half. Her defense was pretty decent in the 1st half. Why not play her with Graves and Burdick when we are getting killed in the post. I wouldn't have complain if Jordan and Jaime took all the shots in the 2nd half either, seems like they were they only ones that played with heart today.
