SEC Loyalty?

Sound like a Bama fan here.

I'm not the one cheering for bama to win the National Title.

I could see cheering for the other SEC teams if the conference was struggling, its not. If the SEC was in danger of losing relevance would I cheer for our rivals.......yes.

The SEC is stronger than its ever been over the past five years, what has that gotten UT? Oh yeah, the worst five years in our history.

Keep cheering for Bama, Fla, UGA, ect...........they will keep pulling better recruits.

I hate Notre Dame more than Bama. SEC! aTm and Oregon are better than both of them.

I do have SEC pride! But in bamas case, they need a good dose of humility. They talk about ND's luck. Their strength of schedule was and has been abismal. They don't play any of the easts strength. Anyone who follows ncaa football knows 2011's NC game was more politics than fairness. I have seen it go bamas way for decades even when it was clear it was wrong.I love the SEC and believe it to be the greatest conference in the nation, but bama is the worst team in our conference for not following the rules. I HATE bama and will rally behind whoever they play. GO IRISH!!!!!!!

Hundreds of millions of catholics around the globe, millions of sidewalk alumni in the USA, and at least one protestant (me) will be rooting for nd.

Bama sent Dillion Lee and Ryan Anderson home for violation of curfew. One rarely plays and the other hasn't seen the field this year.

First, I admit getting mad enough at the biased officiating a few years ago along with Slive's turning a blind eye to it hope for Florida losing in a bowl.

Second, I don't hate any SEC team. And certainly not because they consistently beat us. I respect their prowess and believe you have to beat the best to be the best. All I feel is a desire to whip their booties every year. But when they go to a bowl, I'm in their favor because I want them to uphold SEC greatness. To hate them just because they beat us is petty and just plain jealousy. In the meantime, I eagerly wait for the day we're competitive again and whipping them year in and year out.

Wow, so many fallacies to correct.

First and foremost, I am not rooting for Bama. If they lose, I will enjoy their suffering. But I am not going to root for them to lose, because I understand the basic truth that, ultimately, the only effect it can have on Tennessee will be negative. Simply put, a Bama loss to a non-con opponent does absolutely NOTHING to help Tennessee.

Secondly, you sound like a Bama (or a Gator/Dawg/etc.) fan when you try to diminish the only Tennessee national championship in most of our lifetimes in order to explain away the fact that you want the rest of the SEC to be weaker, so it improves our chances to compete. That's just sad, IMO.

Lastly, I think you're being less than honest when you point-out that the SEC is strong. Because if people like you had your way (if you got what you say you want), then the SEC would be viewed no differently than any of those other (weaker) conferences. Let the SEC start losing all of our high-profile non-con games and the national prestige we have built over the years will change very quickly. And then I suppose you (and the rest who agree with you) will be very happy. Only then will you start hoping for our rivals to win again. Only then will you get on the right side of this argument.

Why wait?

Considering how awesome the SEC is and how bad we're doing now, I'd love to have the SEC collapse and us return to our glory days. ND didn't even play in a conference and look where they're at

i understand how you all feel. watching a team you hate lose brings a certain level of enjoyment

but, the sec thing is really what upset me the most about the loss.

i've read so much from various places about the sec being overrated this season and the main source of evidence being used is the sugar bowl.

in the long run, it doesn't matter. it will have no lasting effect beyond that night. not on the recruiting trail and not for the 2013 season and beyond. and the league's street cred isn't going anywhere, especially with a bama win.

but, i hate when people try to run down the league and worse is when my school is used for evidence.

From the contributions to this forum that I have read, you usually seem like a respectful visitor, so please understand that I am not broadbrushing you with this statement. There is a reason that we tend to view Florida with disdain and it really does supercede your onfield success. It has everything to do with the smug condescension and narrowly circumscribed, self-serving sense of historicity which so many of your comrades exude. "Win with class and lose with dignity" seems to be a message that is utterly lost on them. And, yes, I know that we have more than our fair share of fans who also fall into this category.

Oh my, where to start. I wasn't diminishing anything about 98. I was just pointing out the conference as a whole wasn't as strong then and it worked out pretty well for us.

I'm not rooting for bama to lose, but I'm definitely not cheering for a rival that we compete against for recruits to win. This SEC ra ra for rivals to win everytime they play a nonconference opponent is stupid.

As for the last quote of yours I put in bold.......its moronic.

I view this a bit differently.

First of all, most everyone outside the south, views us as ignorant and dumb hicks, inbreeders, uneducated, toothless, poor, moonshiners and our women are fat and ugly. One idiot in PA seriously ask me if most of our roads were paved yet (reaction withheld). This little old lady from Michigan ask me if we had managed to get everyone running water yet. Both were dead serious.

This laughable misconception of our part of the country, nonetheless, makes my blood boil. I can deal with some ignorance, but when other schools fans hurl insults at our country and way of life, you better believe I am for the south, no matter who it is and since our major conference is the SEC, that keeps me with them during bowl season, all of them.

And, the two worst ones are Oregon and ND. There is an honor and respectability that southerners possess and it is found no where else. With that said, I hope Lacy and Yeldon run right over the top of Teo and win by 40, for the league and the south.

This

. I would rather see Bama win the next ten championships than see Notre Dame win this one.

American by birth. SOUTHERN by the grace of God.

It's all good, brutha'. I understand your argument. In my heart, I agree with you. But I have a brain, too. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: "Stupid brain!"

That's a good one. Skynyrd had so many hits that were much better than "Sweet Home Alabama"
