SEC Network- How Long You Gonna Wait?

DIRECTV Statement Regarding the SEC Network

We’re in the middle of productive discussions with Disney over ESPN’s new SEC Network and hope to be able to provide it as soon as we possibly can. Both DIRECTV and Disney understand and appreciate the unique bond between SEC teams and the communities they represent, many of which lack any professional teams. We are working cooperatively to ensure that everyone can still see their favorite SEC team play at the most reasonable value to all SEC fans and the rest of our customers throughout the Southeast.

Screw Charter. I just signed up with U-Verse and got their top package triple play with all of the movie channels, sports and a bunch of crap that I'll never watch for way less than Charter was charging me.

I tried to negotiate with Charter but they didn't seem to care. 30+ years of giving Charter money and now I'm free of those *****.

Wish UVerse was available where I live - I still dont trust Comcast to get it before the opener

I switched in March, the receivers are better, the DVR is bigger, and the picture quality is as good or better. Include the SEC Network in that and it's a no brainer! Plus, the installer did an excellent job on the install. I'm very impressed with Dish so far. But, perhaps the best thing is the App Dish offers for my IPad. I can now watch recordings on my DVR from any where!

Thanks for the encouraging news. I'll admit, after being with DTV for 10+ years, that I'm a little anxious about switching. I know, that sounds silly, but it is what it is. But, it's a done deal. Come Tuesday, I'll be watching DISH, trying to figure out how to work all this new stuff.

Honestly, I know many of you don't believe in "second favorite teams" and that's fine. But living here in South Carolina, I admit that I've enjoyed watching the Gamecocks do well (I pull for them every week but one). It's given me some enjoyment during some down years of my beloved Vols. Thus, I can't wait for August 28th and 31st to get here! I'm ready for some SEC football on DISH!

What jack wagon wrote this? Many lack professional teams? These people really don't understand what College Football in the South is all about! The writer sounds pissed that he is having to make a statement about the negations. I'm glad that I left Directv!!!

You won't be disappointed in Dish, just give it some time to get acclimated to the differences. Enjoy.

Until Dish Network gets the NFL Sunday Ticket, Dish Sucks, and DirecTV is king. DirecTV also allows me to watch college sports buying the FSN Sports Package.

They will get SEC Network eventually, and I doubt they fail to reach a deal to retain the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Dish Network sucks. There is almost nothing good with them besides the fact that they actually have the SEC network (for now)

Just my opinion.

Eventually true vol fans can watch their team on DTV. Who gives a shat about the NFL Sunday ticket. For true Vol fans the SEC network is the only channel that matters.

Got tired of waiting, switching to Dish tomorrow. Saving $35 per month and guaranteed to have SEC Network on 8-14-14. Also, got 12,500 Southwest Airlines Miles and $100. We'll see how it goes.

I said I would make a decision by July 4th...but didn't. Got to get off my butt soon. Keeping telling myself Mediacom is going to get on board. "negotiations" is a broad term, it seems. Maybe during Sec media days....we will get news and info.

As for NFL network, I stopped last year. With the schedule so spread out now with sun night, Monday night, and now Thursday night, the Sunday noon schedule isn't what it used to be and not worth almost 400 dollars anymore.

I'm a Vol, I am more interested in the SEC Network than I am the Sunday Ticket. If I want to watch the Dolphins play on TV and it's not on, I will just go to a sports bar, no big deal. But, I refuse to watch the Vols play Utah State at a bar, I want to watch it in my man cave at my home with my rules, and I refuse to let Directv or comcast take that away from me because of a pissing contest that they they are in with ESPN. GBO!

That means prepare to pay extra

That means prepare to pay extra

And that's where the hangup is with DTV.

ESPN is requiring companies to offer the SEC Network in their most basic package (wherever the main ESPN channel is carried) INSIDE the SEC footprint. Outside, it can be on a sports tier.

ESPN is also charging $1.30 inside the footprint, $0.25 outside of it.

Every other company that has signed on has ultimately agreed to these terms. DTV wants to negotiate on both points. If you're ESPN, you can't cut DTV a deal after you've already signed up every other carrier at the full asking price and channel placement.

Much like why they haven't arrived at a deal with the Pac 12 Network, DTV wants to put SECN on a sports tier everywhere, so only the customers that want it will pay for it. That ends up being a lot less money for ESPN, the SEC and its schools, so you can see why ESPN isn't will to come off of their demand.

Sounds like direct is being greedy. Dish has not upped the price nor has cox.

You have to have a pretty high package to even get ESPNU with Comcast. I think the "premier" package

No he's saying that a Vol Fan cares more about the Vols playing than any NFL game or Team.

IMO, a VFL first priority is the Vols anything else is secondary!

Makes absolutely zero sense.

Please tell me when UT plays on a Sunday during the NFL Regular season.

I just dropped Directv a note on their web form and asked them if they will be carrying the SEC Network. After I had hit send, but before I could even surf to another page, I heard the "ding" from my inbox and there was an e-mail response with their boilerplate about how they are negotiating to get the channel. They are getting enough heat that they have an automated response system in place that scans for the words "SEC Network."

If price is a problem I don't see why they can't just drop Al Jazeera, MSNBC, LOGO etc... all channels that have to have a viewership near to being in the negative numbers... until they can make up the price difference. Volnation probably gets more eyeballs on a given day than some of the channels they carry.

People telling DTV that they will switch if they don't offer the SEC Network means little to nothing to them. That's why they have continued to "negotiate." Evidently, people are starting to get anxious that DTV hasn't signed yet, and are starting to make the switch as the season nears. THIS will get their attention. Sad thing is, it will be too late for people like me, who had been with them for about 12 years, but switched to ensure they got the SEC Network.

All of this is speculation on my part, but it seems like bad business to me.

The thing that sealed the deal for me (outside of the great deal I got from DISH) is the fact that DTV still (3 years later) hasn't signed the PAC12 Network. I know that the SEC Network should be in more demand than the PAC12, but the fact that they still haven't signed on to carry the PAC12 Network, to me at least, is cause for concern that they will drag their feet and milk this thing for every penny they can before they agree to offer it. Also see exhibit B, the Weather Channel.

I don't like playing stupid games, so I just switched and am done with it. Looking forward to a great experience with DISH.
