SEC Power Rankings Week One

Nope. My main buddy I come with is actually a Florida Gator fan. We came to '10, '12, '14 Florida games. It sucks hearing him run his mouth for 5 hours driving home...that's for sure.

We decided to take another trip and I wanted to come back to Knoxville. They are up and coming and I feel this could be a great season. I could have grabbed tickets to Oklahoma or UGA and I decided on the Dawgs.

The Shoe is a great place to watch a game. Put it on the bucket list.

Wait, you openly admit to hanging out with a Gator? Then in pretend rankings you have Tennessee #9? Wtf man! :)

Everything gravitates towards volnation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Einstein say that about volnation?

Well the Gator thing is terrible. Imagine being boys with that guy in 2006-2007. They hammer us in the BCS title game. Then 3 months later we have our best Buckeye basketball team in decades and make the National Championship game (Vols hoops fans remember that Buckeyes team. Lost twice to us..last time blew a 20 point lead in Sweet 16). Lose another title to them. Miserable.

17 point, but yes.

Wrong guy took the last shot. They should have gotten the ball to Lofton rather than Ramar take it on the inside.

Nope they lead by 20 in the first half. 17 at halftime. It was 49-29 Vols in first half. Watched that game many times.

Florida had lots of talent and a good coach. They were an amazing team back then. Odd how things can change so quickly.

Speaking of change, the same coach that destroyed you has now won you a national championship.

Your next coach may be Les Miles.

Well Les Miles is a National Champion and made another title game. It's not like that dude isn't a great coach. He isn't Urbs or Saban but who is?

I enjoy Miles. Seems to love what he does.

You're right. It was a 17 point halftime lead. I forgot about the score right before half.

Tennessee didn't seem to have an offensive answer for getting points on the inside against someone as tall as Oden was, if I'm recalling it correctly.

(I'm not wavering though on that Lofton should have been taking the last shot on the outside though :) . I also thought I had seen after the game that the play was supposed to go Lofton but Ramar Smith chose to take it himself...but it's been a while).

That Vols team was really good. We beat them twice at the virtual buzzer. I was at the game in Columbus that year. Pretty sure they also beat Florida.

Vols got their revenge in 2010 though. That sweet 16 loss really stung.

True. We also played you all the season after the first game we were talking about; I think it was in January.

Bama
Georgia
A&M
Ole Miss
Arkansas
Tennessee
Florida

Not going to bother with the rest as they aren't legitimate contenders. Can't rank LSU until we see them play.

Great post man. Outstanding.

This isn't a SOS ranking. I see you aren't pleased with my rankings. Sorry man.

BACKED INTO THE TITLE? Yeah they really backed in all right. They beat 3 teams that finished in the Top 5 in the final polls. Let that sink in.

I know it's probably tough for you, after winning 7 straight titles, the Vols haven't won the last 2 years. Let us in Columbus enjoy it. Big game tonight! GO BUCKS!

Edit. I actually won't argue we backed into the title. I remember 1998. If anyone can look at a team and say they backed into winning it all...well it's you. I will defer to your expertise on the subject.

(Understand you're saying it in response to another, harsher post that was directed towards you, but...)

That part's not exactly correct. We stayed in the top two of the inaugural BCS rankings from November 4 (its second week) until the bowl game. Actually after we got to the top of the poll on November 11 (week 3 of the BCS rankings), the numbers never really got close enough that UT was going to be in danger of being jumped by both of the remaining undefeateds (A&M and UCLA) prior to their losses.

Urban Meyer beat OSU for the NC, and now coaches them.

Les Miles beat OSU for the NC, but will he be their next coach?

That remains to be seen.

:pimp_2:

Could never see it though. Just have a feeling he'd get less of a leash with that fanbase.

You missed my point... But I agree "backing" is the wrong word.
Maybe totally lucked out is better.
stoerner drops the ball
5 loss Mississippi State winning the West
Weinke being injured for National Title game.

I like this guy. I'm not quite sure why everyone's briefs are in a bunch. We totally lucked out in '98, not that I'd apologize even one second for that blessing. I actually thought the '99 team was better... Guess that's why they play the games.

As far as the Vols of Team 119... I am on record, 10-2. My confidence is unshaken. OU has a program of great historical relevance. A win against them will, imo, be a launching point of the next great era of Tennessee football.

That was a great post.

Exactly. All you care about is the Tennessee was the National Champions. That's all that matters. Who cares how it happened. I feel the same way about the 2014 Buckeyes. They won the title playing their 3rd string QB. Sorry they didnt have to play through the SEC "gauntlet" to do it.
