SEC Ugliest helmets

Agreed. Recruits know which programs are good traditionally and, to an extent, which programs have a "shot" at being really special during their time on the team. The problem is, there are a lot of programs that have a chance at winning a title in the next four years. When you're being recruited, you look at the little nuances that help a program stand out... and cool uniforms are one of those puzzle pieces.

I understand where the 50-year-old traditionalists are coming from, but they're not the ones being recruited to play at top-flight schools. People need to get with the times.

People need to quit making this dumbass generalization. Not everyone that likes traditional uniforms is 50 years old. I am 22 and I think the mind blowingly hideous garbage that Nike typically rolls out is horrible and I think the no bulls**t, straightforward uniforms worn by the majority of the SEC teams are the best uniforms in cfb. We "traditionalists" don't need to do a damn thing.

Green Bay actually changed theirs to match Georgia's apparently

From UGAs website:
Since the Georgia "G"- though different in design and color- was similar to Green Bay's "G", Coach Dooley thought it best to clear the use of Georgia's new emblem with the NFL team. Athletic Director Joel Eaves called for permission which was granted. However, since its inception in 1961, the Green Bay "G" has been redesigned several times and now looks like Georgia's original 1964 "G." Georgia is proud that the Packers apparently liked the special nuances of the Bulldogs' forward-looking "G."

I've seen it where they had to get a copyright from Green Bay to use them and that Grambling State also did the same thing. I've read where Green Bay put the oval around the "G" and thats when Georgia copied them.

We have a big time track athlete in this thread telling us otherwise, brah.

I'm 25, and I also support this message.

Don't have a problem with any of the helmets in the SEC. I wish LSU would permanently switch to the white helmet.
No. I like the LSU helmets the way they are. Wish USC jr would switch back to the red helmets instead of the white. Also wish the Chargers would go back to the blue helmets.(nothin to do with the SEC, just saying)

Yes, but they have they have the second biggest jumbotron in the world, so....

I hope you mean in college football and not the actual world. Kauffman Stadium' s (Kansas City Royals) is the second biggest in professional sports and is 84 feet wide by 105 feet tall. MSU's is listed at 48 x 84.

I agree here. Also, with the wearing white at home thing, I think white helmet, white top, and yellow bottom wouldn't look right. However, I do LOVE the Katrina relief uni's. I tend to really like it when a team goes to the white helmets for a game or two, but I like for the color to stay the rest of the time.

On topic, Arkansas get's my vote. Not necessarily because of their helmet, but because I really just don't like the pig logo.

Ditto from a 26 year old. The oldtimer defense is just ignorant.

I haven't owned a pair of nikes since high school, and as long as nike keeps corrupting college football by spiting out the abortion of uniforms they started at Oregon I will continue my boycott.

Why do "new age" college football uniforms have to look like cheap space suits? Why not make them look like...wait for it...football uniforms.

They don't know what they are talking about. They think recruits these days love to wear Adidas crap and they will be happy with it. Now days people don't care about tradition. Its cool to have but it gets old. I was a recruit in track and field last and I made sure I looked at everything that didn't matter. Like Uniforms, girls, dorms, and not the track program itself most of the time.

Brilliant....just brilliant.

1. Tennessee- I like the classic look of our helmets.
2. Florida- Not a fan of theirs, but their white ones are sick.
3. Georgia- Kinda like ours- simple and traditional.
4. Kentucky- Not a fan of theirs. Blue and white combo just screams high school to me.
5. Vanderbilt- Would be cool... if they were competitive.
6. South Carolina- Old ones were much cooler.
7. Missouri- Stupid helmets, and stupid addition to our conference IMO. These jokers are close enough to be in the Big 10. Even my Michigan friends don't consider them Southern.

1. Alabama- Flame away, but they're classic.
2. LSU- Pretty cool, but the whites are even cooler.
3. Arkansas- No opinion on theirs. A pig is a dumb mascot.
4. Auburn- I like theirs.
5. Texas A&M- I like theirs. They can pull of the maroon and white.
6. MSU- Can't pull off the maroon and white.
7. Ole Miss- Their fans ruin it for me. Just as cocky as Alabama fans, but they have no history whatsoever to back it up. Their women are beautiful, though. I could fake being a fan of theirs if it meant getting closer to their girls.

From reading your post, I can tell that you are about 60 years old. :hi: I have a great deal of respect for you guys but traditional helmets are getting old. Not saying totally ban it, I just want something new every once in a while.

I'm in my young 20s, actually. I'm just not a fan of the uniforms changing so much. I don't mind some of the new uniforms- when done correctly. I just like the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it.". Oregon has some that are cool, but I can't stand when teams like Michigan resort to wearing alternate uniforms. Trust me, as a young guy myself, the uniform thing is overrated. Those programs are winning games and changing uniforms, not changing uniforms then winning games. We've been disillusioned into thinking that us wearing black jerseys every once in a will excite recruits. Recent champions LSU, Alabama, and Florida probably laugh at that notion.

Because everyone who doesn't like Nike's arena caliber travesties is 50.

Make me a list of the best schools right now, and tell me how many wear ultramodern unis most of the time. The fact is the USCs, LSUs, Bamas, etc. of college football stick to a timeless look most of the time with only moderate deviation. The schools with limited histories (like Mizzou in this very thread) that are trying to make a name for themselves are the ones that mess around with new unis every two years.

I can see sticking with traditional uniforms if the product you're putting on the field is stellar. Unfortunately, Tennessee has had one winning season in the last five years. Missouri doesn't have the history that the Vols do, but how much will that history matter to recruits considering there's no present success to back it up? Missouri has been to seven consecutive bowls, just gained notoriety for joining the SEC and is clearly trying to connect with the nation's high school recruits. They're not going to magically supplant Tennessee when it comes to recruiting classes, but check back in five years to see how the two schools compare.

Oh, and I wouldn't call Pro Combat uniforms a "moderate deviation." They're different, aggressive and recruits/players love them. Remember how much Tennessee players loved the black uniforms, how Tyler and Darick both tweeted about their desire to wear them again last year? We're talking 20-year-old athletes here... they like flash. Just ask Oregon; they're managing to out recruit Tennessee despite lesser facilities/tradition and having an even worse recruiting location than the Vols.

Oregon does have far less tradition, but their facilities are breathtaking.
