Seems like we are about 2yrs away...

we are a good quarterback away NOW....we have a guy who can manage the game, not one who is going put it on his shoulder and go win it AKA Heath Shuler, Tee Martin, Casey Clausen....I might be reaching but Jonathon Crompton would be giving us a real shot this season

If you are looking for something radically different from a QB in Jones' system... you are going to be disappointed. With a more mature OL you'd see more downfield throws. With a better runner you'd see 2 or 3 more QB runs per game. But the QB will first and foremost be a guy who manages the O and distributes the ball to playmakers.

I know enough to know that you are wrong... and clinging in vanity to the position you staked out with Dobbs.

I like Dobbs... but for some reason your ego is attached to proving that you weren't wrong about who the best option at QB is. Jones chose Worley. He knows the strength and weaknesses of his options... and still chose Worley. For some reason, you just can't accept that.
Don't you have a coloring book to work on, little guy?

Nah... I'm actually handling you while working on important stuff. You really aren't the challenge you think you are.

Interesting what kind of tactics you've resorted to now... almost always an indication of someone trapped in their own BS but too vain to just stop much less admit they're wrong.

If you can't win a debate.... start a fight, right? Your "best" evidence actually disproves what you are trying to say.

You are trying to correct me to sound intelligent, but you fail to acknowledge it is STILL under the umbrella of the Zone Read...you can bang your head all day, if you want...about who reads or who runs. IT IS STILL THE ZONE READ OPTION. Whether we run different variants, such as the dive, triple option, dual option, etc. it doesn't matter. The QB shows the defense the ZONE READ LOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whether we mix in West Coast passing concepts, etc. How many times the QB pulls in this offense is irrelvant, and doesn't change the fact that it's based on the Zone Read....PERIOD!

You sitting here arguing that a Chevy Volt isn't a Chevy, because it's a Volt. Good grief.

well buddy...your original argument is that we need a new QB that will keep the ball and run with it himself . I think you suggested Dobbs was the only one that could run this scheme . If Dobbs were in ...he would do exactly what Worley is doing ...except on his 2-3 keeps her would gain more yards .

I think the key to this offense is for the RBs an offensive line to get reps in this scheme ...because you are right ...this is a zone read scheme for the RBs. I think they will be great once they get it.

Worley is doing exactly what he is suppossed to in this offense ...distributing the ball to the athletes.

We do not run the zone read option as our primary offensive philosophy or formation. At time we have and will run out of the spread. However, the Jones/ Bajakian offense uses the spread concepts of Rich Rodriguez along with the vertical passing concepts of the west coast offense. Our base running play is the inside zone. The option here is to pass or to hand off based upon reads in the defense. Dan Le fevour was the prototype B. Jones Qb who ran the ball some. Hence, we have recruited Q. Dormady who is a pro-styled QB who is athletic but not a runner, which explains the comments Jones makes about pro quarterbacks in his spread attack.

I promise you, I look forward to that day,

That day is 9/13 when Gatorade Player of the Year Worley dishes it out for victory. Throws 295, runs for 25 and no ints.

Thread title is misleading. Says we are two years away the discusses Worley's performance. I'll address the thread title. Most knew when butch took over it was a 3 to 4 year rebuild. IMO we right on schedule. Great young talent, huge amount of underclassmen in the 2 deep. If the excellent recruiting continues and when these young guns get some maturity under their belts, we'll be competitive with anyone. People need to sit back and enjoy the ride. When you've been as low as the Vols have been the last few years it makes the ride to the top all that much sweeter. These opposing coaches better be careful about running the score up now because they may be on the other end of it in the not so distant future. IMO

Excellent post. One thing that would make Worley and our running game more effective is to keep the ball occasionally.

OP needs to understand that this is the same running offense that averaged 5 yards a carry last year and 53rd nationally with 188 yards per game.

O line being new has hurt the YPC. That is all.

...from being a perennial challenger in the SEC E. We do seem improved on D, but even the coaches acknowledge we are undersized at the DT position. Obviously, we are young, and don't have much experience on the OL.

But after 2 games, I think we can see where our weaknesses lay. The OL is the biggest. Sure, that's obvious by now. But, I think the No.1 obstacle to our ability to win games in the SEC is that Butch and Bajakian are basically FORCING a classic pocket passer to run their read option scheme. I suspect they will look back on this and realize how bad of a mistake it was.

Dobbs is really the ONLY QB on the roster who fits the scheme. So, it's a tough choice to bench a senior in favor of a Sophomore. We fans tend to assume that because a player doesn't start, that = they suck. Not so.

I think in order for this team to have a fighting chance to prevail in this meat-grinder of a schedule, Bajakian is going to have to adapt his offense more to suit his pocket passer, rather than pretend defenses will respect the QB keeper because we make Worley run it once or twice in a game.

They don't. So, break it up a bit, mixing in some I-Formation and Pistol sets, and bring Dobbs in on critical 3rd or 4th and short, and goal line situations.

Worley is simply a bad fit for this scheme, so at least modify the scheme to fit the QB, not the other way around.

The scheme does not fit the personnel. I hate this offense, and Worley is still the best option we have.
