Severe Weather Thread

Could get nasty Thursday in the mid south and Ohio Valley. Strong Thunder Storms with Straight line winds. Tornado threat should be low, but still a possibility in supercell storms that develop ahead of the front

I wanted to go into meteorology but when I saw that I had to take 4 calculus classes, I told myself no way. I got into business instead.

Yes

Its just something I was always interested in. I guess because a lot of my family were farmers and that's all my great uncles would talk about.

I grew up on a farm 50 years ago and the weather was ALWAYS the main topic every day...and now 50 years later it still the main topic of conversation with my 85 year old mother....drives my "better than thou" wife of 37 years slap crazy and she stills doesnt understand mama's obsession with the weather...

Conditions are getting right for a possible outbreak from North Mississippi, West and Middle Tn, Western and Central Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Southern Ohio

I expect to see Dr. Forbes raise the Torcon in these areas. The atmosphere will be ripe with moisture and plenty of wind sheer in the atmosphere to build supercells.

Happy Halloween!

Was it a supercell that produced that outbreak of tornadoes a few years ago in West TN?

Supercells is the Super Tuesday outbreak in February 08 when Union University and Hendersonville got hammered or April 06 when Gallatin took a big hit.

Any idea of when/how bad I should be expecting things to be tomorrow?

Early afternoon

It really depends on how much moisture is pulled into the area from the gulf and the winds in the upper atmosphere.

Right now, winds in the upper atmosphere( around 10 kilometers) is around 80 mph west to east. This will increase as the front gets closer. The winds at the surface are from south to north at 5 to 10. This will increase tomorrow. This, plus the instability brought with the front is what will make the difference tomorrow.

Right now, its to early to tell 100% what will happen. Just be on watch

Good Lord you know more than the average local weather station.

I love it when Count posts about the weather. :good!:

This rain will likely be our saving grace. This is going to help keep the instability down. We may see a squal line form ahead of the front as it approaches later this afternoon into early evening, but I don't expect them to be as severe as if we would have sun all day.

Count, you need to update the weather. Looks like some severe weather could develop in Tenn. today.
