Severe Weather Thread

was wondering when someone was going to report something like this. Horrible. Unforunately, there will be a lot more.

Yep - when you see the pics it's hard to imagine there was a safe place in many of those buildings.

Like I said earlier; we are going to be a big news story tomorrow - for all the wrong reasons

When daylight finally gets here everyone will get a much better view to access the damage created by this monster system.

Like I said before, as East Tennessee is very lucky tonight. That could have been SOOOOOO much worse, but it wasn't.

Luckily, East Tennessee's terrain isn't conducive to forming tornadoes.

Neither is East Alabama. They specifically said tonight on the weather that these were not typical given the jet stream and that mountains would not break them up. They would just move right along with the terrain.

Apparently the conditions were perfect for tornadoes with long durations and paths. Typically the terrain east of here breaks them up.

Makes me more thankful.

How are you and your family doing?

good thanks - really was spared twice today.

Some up to 100 mph straight line winds came through about 5 am. Lots of trees down but none for me. As stated earlier, that beast of a tornado that went through Bham passed just north of me and all I got was some rain and thunder/lightning. I almost feel guilty given the damage others received.

Been a long crazy day around here for sure. Keep those of us in Bama land in your thoughts... I'm just now getting to check on things with my phone. Cell towers were down too and still no power.. May be a while before that gets back on

I know what you mean. It's almost humorous to hear the eyewitness accounts of people saying "it sounded like a train" . . . then it's not quite as funny when it gets dark and you hear the train.
