Or should I say shame on jon gruden to let his agents mouth overload his ass??? Jon should already stepped in and cleared the "fantasyland" quote up!!!!! From what I've learned ovr the years jon loves UT why would he allow bob to insult k-town, and pm, jim haslam, ergen, thorton etc. If ur a true VOL FAN that was very hurtful to us fans..
Im over Gruden ,, money is his liquor... I seriously don't think Gruden could do it now. He is a XXXX coach.... Really he is not for the vol.. I thought he would be great if he came to UT.. but he is like a bad neighbor who thinks he is to good to come to your house

uppity I don't put up with

I'm going to be honest, I've never heard of Lamonte before all of this.

Fred Sanford's kid.

I'm a little pi$$ed about how the whole thing was handled. I had heard rumors that Gruden was a bit of an attention wh*re, now I believe it. Guy likes getting his name in the paper, doesn't he? He could have ended this speculation early, but I think he was having too much fun with it.

Google bob lamonte, this post comes up when you enter the site. Maybe everyone plus gruden can see how low of a guy his agent is. Ridiculous comment from him imo.

Was Bob Lamonte the guy that screwed Tom Cruise's character out of his clients in that movie about sports agents? It was based on real life characters and events.

All I know is I would love to know the "WHOLE" truth about how this Gruden coming here mess got started and who is telling the truth about how it all went down start to finish?? That is a pretty low statement from ole Bob period, sounds like he needs to be taken behind the woodshed and teach that BOY some manners!!!

I like your attitude. I also liked your post.

LaMonte was a real jackass for using the term "fantasy". If he had an ounce of class, he would have politely denied the claims instead of insulting a fan base, especially considering the media stir behind all the rumors and infatuation with his client.
are you on crack? the whole Gruden thing was a massive fantasy only taken seriously inside the bubble of the weird crosssection of our fanbase that lurks on these boards.

The fact that all the so called smoke was only generated or reported by vols boards or media instate while any reputable media almost totally avoided even mentioning his name without a giggle shows that.

The fact that half the fanbase is actually mad the AD couldn't hire/didn't try to hire a guy that was never interested in the job is doubly hilarious.

The only "media" that gave the story ANY thought was local Knoxville media, TN sports radio and the boards. Sadly the Chattanooga times free press (which is actually normally a fairly legitimate source of news if you skip the sports section) jumped on the wagon giving the whole thing a false sense of reality and inevitably forcing Gruden to make a statement to crush the BS.

I guess we can all say we were wrong about John Gruden. It looks like he doesn't have the energy or desire to recruit or build a college program. I guess his agent just told the truth we were living in a fantasy world thinking Gruden would be our savior.

I'm pretty sure Jon Gruden is Bob Lamonte's boss. If you don't like the agent than don't like the candidate. Bob Lamonte doesn't decide where Gruden coaches, Jon does.

This is a fact. Maybe you (the OP) should focus your ire at Jon Gruden instead. Gruden tells the agent the figure he requires and the agent goes after said figure. BUT the article reads as though an offer was never made let alone negotiations/offers that were turned down as claimed by the OP. According to the agent this call was made just last week.

“He said, ‘I just wanted to do due diligence,’” LaMonte said. “I said, ‘Thank you, but Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN.' He thanked me and said goodbye.”

My question would be to Mr. Hart and it would be something like; What the hell have you been doing and why was this question not asked WAY before Coach Dooley was fired.

Now that the Gruden fantasy is over with will the search for a proven college level winner proceed?

Bob Stoops or Gary Patterson anyone?

If it went down like everyone saying that he is the barrier, trying to scam tennessee out of all the money the measley bas**rd can get. If I were gruden and wanted the job he needs to be negotiating directly to UT...

This is for you ricky bobby f***u

And this isn't fantasyland
THIS IS TENNESSEE!!!!!

One more thing you make me sick Bobby arghhhhhh puke puke!

He's an AGENT...That's his job...What rock have you been living under?

You are correct sir in that no one has been hired and lots of coaches are still in play but when Gruden's agent says:

Agent says Gruden never had interest in Vols' job, calls reports 'fantasy'
'Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN'

That headline in itself would lead most sane people to believe Gruden is not in play and never was and was a fantasy for some people on this board.

Yes, it falls back on Jon Gruden. An agent doesn't make any demands or accept/decline a deal without first consulting with his client. Jon Gruden endorsed everything Lamonte did or didn't do in this "negotiation" process.

(And I use the term "negotiation" loosely, because I am not sure that this thing really went as far as some claim.)

All of this just makes me glad that we did not get Gruden. Gruden has been fired twice......will he get fired by a third NFL team if he decides to go back to coaching? I am looking forward to welcoming a new coach who has the VOLS best interest at heart!
