If Trump would have recognized and acknowledged the pandemic threat and instituted a National Response Plan and worked cooperatively with states to invoke and enforce lockdowns, there would have been 36,000 lives saved in the first 3 months of the pandemic alone.

The President doesn't have the power to enact or enforce lockdowns. If you remember, Trump banned travel from China, was called a xenophobe and had Dem lawmakers out telling people to come to their cities/states that it was safe. Trump also floated the idea of banning travel in and out of the northeast and, yep you guessed it, those governors quickly pitched a hissy fit BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT DOESN'T HAVE THE POWER TO DO THAT.

It's really amazing how you guys twist easily verifiable recent history.

Behind a pay wall so not sure if it ever breaks this stuff down. .

1. Cuomo and many dems were clear they were anti Trump. How would have Trump enforced them to do anything? Trump gave him supplies he refused to use.
2. The early months still had people not believing this thing was real.
3. I would love to see the breakdown of how they estimated Federal shutdowns, if even legal, would have saved lives that were at worst regional events. You dont need a federal lockdown to shut down New York state or city. So not sure where this saving comes into play.
4. How long would this shut down last? As it was we did nothing so the infection moved as fast as possible and yet we still have states going thru their first surge while New York is a lot better. Would you keep them locked down to this point too?

The knashing of teeth over him trying to shut down the country on a national level would have rivaled what it is now.

In other words, it didnt matter from that perspective.

Please let me know what Trump could have done differently and how many of those lives it would have saved.

He could have been a leader during a national crisis. He pretty much could have done his job. He could have tried to united the country with a shared goal of stopping the spread knowing it was airborne but instead he was seeking a political victory by boasting about a trade deal with China. Obviously he was well informed about the virus from his advisors but instead of passing this on to the public or trying to make policy to deal with the spread he did nothing. Democrat hoax and China lied being the rallying call if I remember correctly.

How about for starters: Given that he admitted to Bernstein that he knew CV19 was a "killer", how about he NOT say that the virus will "just go away" 33 times?

How about if he had just taken it seriously - like any responsible human being would much less our President - and not swept the whole damn thing under the rug.

To this day he's holding indoor rallies. And many are not wearing masks. Thumbing state laws even.

Pure stupidity and hubris.
