Shampoo-gate (Pelosi Hair Salon)

He could have been a leader during a national crisis. He pretty much could have done his job. He could have tried to united the country with a shared goal of stopping the spread knowing it was airborne but instead he was seeking a political victory by boasting about a trade deal with China. Obviously he was well informed about the virus from his advisors but instead of passing this on to the public or trying to make policy to deal with the spread he did nothing. Democrat hoax and China lied being the rallying call if I remember correctly.

I’ll grant you that he could have been a better leader in that he should have risen above the petty BS being thrown at him and just stuck to the facts.

There was no way in hell he was going to unite the country when you had state and local officials shutting things down and destroying lives.

Dude, are you really this dense or just being obstinate?

FFS.

How about for starters: Given that he admitted to Bernstein that he knew CV19 was a "killer", how about he NOT say that the virus will "just go away" 33 times?

How about if he had just taken it seriously - like any responsible human being would much less our President - and not swept the whole damn thing under the rug.

To this day he's holding indoor rallies. And many are not wearing masks. Thumbing state laws even.

Pure stupidity and hubris.

Like all viruses this one will go away so he was correct. I think he did take it pretty damn seriously considering all of the federal resources he dispatched to various states. He even enacted the defense protection act, that is damn serious.

He had a task force with nightly briefings from infectious disease experts. He shut down travel while Dem leaders were asking their people to come out and shop and ignore the hysterical xenophobia of the potus. He took it more serious than the left did but they hammer him daily on it

The US should have been better prepared for this. There should have been plans in place but no one has ever wanted to spend much time on that

He's doing what should be done with the opening. It shouldn't have taken more than a month or 2 to realize our shutdown approach was wrong and harmful. There was a need to focus on the at risk population while allowing the rest to keep the economy moving. Poor communication was why that didn't occur

That's what happens when you don't have a leader or National response. I also remember Sen. Kennedy (Louisiana) grilling DHS about PPE shortages and such in February. Armed with the knowledge of it being airborne and not addressing the PPE shortages is on Trump. It would have been a good time to invoke the defense production act but he didn't at that time.

That was shocking to me. And, so far, if you look at what we have with the 15 people and their recovery, one is — one is pretty sick but hopefully will recover, but the others are in great shape. But think of that: 25,000 to 69,000. ... "And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done," the president said during a Coronavirus Task Force Press briefing at the White House.

Pretty much everything you've said is misguided except that the US should have been better prepared.

Hmmmm.... I wonder why.

From your link:
“It would be nice if the office was still there,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Health, told Congress this week. “I wouldn’t necessarily characterize it as a mistake (to eliminate the unit). I would say we worked very well with that office.”

But there were no plans in place from any admin. If this was so important why was it not called out by anyone before? Also from your link

They’ve been warning about the next pandemic for years

Then where's the plan to combat one?

You also send to know the Trump response timeline by heart yet ignore those who truly could have made a difference. This failure is on local and state level govt. Trump sucks at most things but the feds are limited in what actions they can take. Even Biden recently realized this

Wow, dude. Come on.

Why have a President then? Who is our leader?

"Leadership" starts at the top and works down. When our President COMPLETELY DENIES THERE'S A PROBLEM FOR MONTHS, does that help or hurt the effort to combat a pandemic?

Exactly. Trump is an unmitigated disaster.

There are limits to federal power. It's been that way since the thing was set up. State/Local has much more control

After the initial shutdown, and once we knew who was most affected, Trump should have called for targeted protection of the vulnerable. He then should have called for the least vulnerable to get back to work and kids back to school. This economic destruction should not have been allowed to continue. He absolutely failed there

Just remember that Trump shut down travel in January and was called every name in the book by the Dem leadership. Those same leaders had access to the same info and at the end of Feb were still calling for groups to gather and shop and ignore Trump. In fact, they're still saying certain gatherings are fine based on political leanings. You now want these same people in charge? Hmmm

Federal Resources for Planning | Pandemic Influenza (Flu) | CDC Nov 3, 2016

An influenza pandemic—whether of low, moderate, high or very high severity—will place extraordinary and sustained demands on public health and health care systems and on providers of essential community services. Since 2005, the United States has worked to increase capacity for global pandemic response. HHS has developed and refined tools over the past decade to help guide different aspects of planning and response, including evaluating the pandemic risk posed by a novel influenza A virus, assessing the risk and potential public health impact posed by the novel influenza A virus; understanding the possible progression of the event; developing a pre-pandemic candidate vaccine virus, or vaccine; and evaluating the severity and transmissibility to enable informed public health interventions.
Surveillance and monitoring, development and delivery of medical countermeasures (e.g., vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and respiratory protection devices) and non-pharmaceutical interventions, health care system response, and communications are integral components of pandemic planning and response.
The federal resources provided in this section are designed to assist public health and health care systems pandemic planning.

But I keep getting told this isn't the flu - a virus we've known about for decades and even have a vaccine for

Trump only banned China travel in January. He waited until March to "ban" Europe, but excluded US citizens plus the UK and Ireland (huh?).

And, yes please, gimme anyone but Trump in charge.

When Trump banned travel from Europe there were something like 45 active cases on the entire continent and he was vilified for it.

Those would not have done anything.

He provided ventilators. States didnt use them. He provided tests, states didnt use them. He provided testing centers states didnt need them. He provided temporary hospitals to deal with overflows, we didnt need them. Hes provided billions to states, researchers, and businesses (I actually hold this against him). Hes cleared read tape to ensure the vaccines go as quickly as possible. He tried to shut down travel got lambasted. He tried working with states and both extremes thumbed their noses at him. New York and California have told him they didnt want his help. Georgia opened up before Trumo wanted. Wheres the cooperation? It's a two way street.

He has done plenty. But as always you continue to harp on what he says.
