I don't necessarily disagree with the Landry comments, but I'd sure like to have a PG with at least some college experience after Trae is gone. If we don't bring someone in for the '13 class, we'll have to rely on a true Freshman to lead the point. A Richardson / Moore type may work as a backup, but I don't see that type of player running the show. JUCO would be another option, but again, I don't think Melvin Goins would've been effective had he not played behind Maze his Junior year. I'd wanna hedge my bets if I were Cuonzo.

I'm with you, I said it in another thread, not sure about this way of doing it, but I trust CCM.

My first thought is maybe he hopes to land a really talented 2014 PG like Richmond or Lyles. Or if not, then maybe hell go the Juco route.

Go big or go home, I guess. I guess I'm a little too conservative. It's usually a crap shoot finding a PG that can contribute his first year (with a better chance of failing) after you get outside of top few prospects, and I have a tough time seeing us snagging one of those away from the UKs, NCs, and Dukes. I think Martin will be able to get top wing and forward players all day in a year or two. Not sure about PGs.

Now let me say, just because we cut ties with Landry doesn't mean we don't bring in a PG.

If we bring in Hale, and cut with Landry, that still leaves us 3 open scholarships. It seems likely someone will also leave in the offseason, so if that happens that gives us 4 open scholarship, WITH stokes staying. It seems the main guys we are after and have a legitimate chance with are, hubbs, Nichols, jw3 and Newkirk.

With someone leaving that leaves room for 4 besides Hale, and you could actually still bring in the main guys the staff is after, or even keep Landry if you wanted.

I think it's going to be a case where we take committs and worry about the numbers later. Stokes could leave, we could have one or more transfers, it's really a moving number.

He should be a very solid 4. Good rebounder and shot blocker for his height, could afford to add some weight/muscle, but he's super talented.

Very very high potential.

Last I seen he is 6'8/215. What is his height/weight right now?

Juco is an option. I have a friend that does work for a JUCO service but it's almost impossible to see who's going to be on the radar in 2014 because the info is so spread out and broad. I'm thinking Martin is just playing with the hand he was dealt. Landry is a good prospect but not an SEC PG.

If the Vols take care of business this year, we'll land our future PG. 2013 seemed weak IMO for PG's anyway so we'll have to deal with growing pains if we don't find a stud JUCO.

Maybe the Vols feel really good with JaQuel Richmond for 2014 and are going to roll the dice with him, and keep Moore/Richardson as the backup.

Juco likely unless he gets a stud freshman ready to play immediately. Maybe both.

I always thought it was weird that Hale was 2 or so hours from Kville yet committed early to Bama, of all places. Grant is a decent coach, but he's not going to do anything with Bama that Gottfried couldn't.

BTO, you've been championing the "Nichols likes UT b/c of playing time" angle. Assuming the Hale stuff has legs, wouldn't that change things with Nichols? He'd not only be sharing time with another top 100 4 man, but sharing a recruiting class with him.

EDIT: Said Hubbs when I meant Nichols, fixed.

I think that's what people were trying to reason. Whatever the reason, Hale takes Nichols' spot.

If Hale comes, I don't see Nichols coming. I'd take Nichols over Hale but I don't really know much about the kid. When they verbal to go elsewhere, I don't follow as closely. I also thought it was weird that he picked Bama that early as well. The season pretty much started and he probably knew nothing of CCM. Now after a season, maybe he's had a change of heart? This will be interesting but I still think we get Nichols.

He loved Bruce, but when everything went down with Bruce he chose Bama... His dad plays a heavy part in his recruitment.. And his dad might be the only thing holding him back from him being a vol IMO

Definitely throws a big spin into things if Hale were to committ to Tennessee. I still think an argument can be made that we offer better immediate plying time than duke and Florida, but obviously not as enticing as it was before.

Nichols had made it sound recently that he may be waiting to committ, I had said recently that's a risky game to wait on all your targets.

Maybe CCM is trying to get hale early, hopefully hubbs committs early, and then Lu can afford to wait on the others. As you were asking though, yes it definitely changed Nichols recruitment IMO, but as i said I still think or depth is more attractive than duke or Florida.

So his dad has him de commit from Bama, where he's been committed for awhile, because of CCM, but not commit to Tennessee?

I'm not understanding what you're saying here..:

Okay Shannon wants to be a vOl, but his dad wants him to honor his decision to Bama. Shannon may do his own thing or listen to his dad and keep his word. As far as I know Shannon will probably do his own thing. But his dad is big on keeping his commitment to Bama.

Ok much clearer thank you.

So he's definitely not a back up plan then. If he wants to be a vol obviously Martin has told him there's a spot for him.

Yeah, sorry I made it so difficult to understand. I played aau with Shannon and we still text and hang out when possible.

I had always heard Hale loved Pearl and was a shoe-in to be a Vol until the NCAA came calling. Thought it was weird when he committed so early, when he could have waited to see how things played out. Sounds like he may regret his very early decision. If his dad pushes him to make good on his commitment, I think that's the honorable thing to do and I won't hold it against him.
