Shooting in El Paso

Is it not mental illness?
Should we not condemn the actions no matter who is responsible?

An example from way off topic.
I believe that abortion is morally wrong. As such if I want to change laws I should convince people through debate of my beliefs. Blowing up abortion clinics or violence against abortion providers is never ok. The people who attack abortion clinics and providers are not only mentally ill but are criminals and should be prosecuted to the maximum of the law.

Should we not also prosecute terrorist who happen to be Muslims, Antifa or white supremacy?

Should it matter whatever excuse these criminals use to justify their behavior?
I don't get the need to label the guy as if there's something worse than being a mass murderer.

I don't really disagree with you, you know. Just pointing out a double standard that some seem to be blind to. Does not have to apply to you specifically.

That article is internally inconsistent. He says he understands Trump's commentary on immigrants is going to be part of the debate, but then says it's not fair to blame Trump.

It's completely fair to blame Trump because it's true.

Trump says it's a mental illness problem.

Ok, I mean anyone who would do this is by definition mentally ill. But the refusal to acknowledge white supremacy and nationalism were major factors is just another failure by this loser of a President.
Many would say Obama did the same with terrorism as it related to Islamic extremists. But I agree, if the man's motive is racist, call it out for the racism it is. Make it a teaching moment for what hatred can do when it meets with the mentally unbalanced, because it's both together that produces moments like this. Some will criticize, but LG does have a bit of a point here. It's not just mental illness. It's mental illness fueled by an idea of hate. The part where I disagree is it being Trump's fault. That's simple and convenient(as well as typical LG). The problem is a societal one, not a political one. It doesn't matter who sits in the Oval Office. When mental illness meets hateful ideology, bad things happen.

In the most direct refutation of the inevitable media spin, he even admits that “I’m putting this here because some people will blame the President or certain presidential candidates for the attack. This is not the case. I know that the media will probably call me a white supremacist anyway and blame Trump’s rhetoric.” In a macabre self-fulfilling prophecy, he then states “The media is infamous for fake news. Their reaction to this attack will likely just confirm that.”

Images online showing guy's father is a Democrat and so is his mother..looks like that first take of this guy actually being a Democrat may be correct.

So is Trump is now driving the Dems to shoot folks? Or are Dems still not claiming their own if it doesn't fit the narrative?

lol, What does it ultimately matter what political party he may or may not belong too? That's as lazy as blaming Trump. Not to mention being a Democrat isn't a race. You're not Democrat because your parents are Democrats.

The shooter will probably turn out to be Antifa with a made up manifesto to blame white supremacists. Kind of like "The Great White Jussie."

Since the FBI has taken this whole investigation over. We’ll probably never know the whole truth about what this guy was thinking.

Now I get why they are pushing for more gun restrictions. The dipshits apparently can’t be trusted with guns 🤷‍♂️

Who sits in the oval office matters greatly.
Trump intentionally increases divisiveness and stokes the fires of prejudices and hatred.

I'm well aware of your blame Trump for everything policy. I still find it to be idiotic. Blaming Trump for this would be like blaming Obama for Sandy Hook. It's stupid and lazy and does nothing to acknowledge the actual problem.

That would in no way be alike.
Do you believe that Trump's rhetoric has the potential to tip someone who is already teetering on the edge over?

Let them have their moment and blame Trump and then ask who is responsible for the 100+ people that die every day from Opioid addiction. Which is worse?

Obama has to be charged for his role in the mass shootings and attacks on Law Enforcement during his watch.
I don’t blame Trump but this is a bad argument. When did anyone yell shoot the cops at a Obama event where he did not correct them? Trump did that in Florida about illegal immigrants. Made a joke about it after someone yelled it at one of his rallies.

It only matters when there is a narrative political agenda attached to it and it sure seems to be one side that jumps on that bandwagon rather quickly when tragedies like this happen.

I just pointed out the alternative view that it's very likely he isn't a Republican as the narrative being pushed claims, due to his own online presence originally stating Democrat along with his parents stating the same.

As to your last statement. He's barely 21 years old, so do you honestly believe the political ideology he's grown up around hasn't had some influence on his own political choice?

People look desperately to blame the most ridiculous things on those of opposing politics. Not everything is about politics. Placing blame everywhere but where it belongs has become a huge problem in this country. No wonder people no longer understand what personal responsibility is.
