Shooting in El Paso

The subject was people receiving Social Security benefits over a diagnosis of mental illness... not just people who can't balance a checkbook but people who have been diagnosed with a major disorder of mind and brain and are not independent.

No it wasn't, that is why I told you to look into the subject. A person does NOT have to be diagnosed with a mental illness to be assigned a financial conservator.

I already did. You cannot say you love your neighbor as thyself if you are willfully denying them the same privileges you enjoy. Sorry. It's not rocket science.
You are wrong Huff. You do not understand the scripture. We can love our neighbors without allowing everyone to come into our country.

Not so... just 75,000 (approximately) have been. Again, we are talking about people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration over their mental illness. This is not as damn broad as you are trying to make it.... Jeez.

I think the real point is that (see my earlier posting) that the language of Form 4473 has and continues to exclude the people you seem to be citing. My impression is that the SS payment thing is too broad and was rolled back. If anything meeting the criteria for exclusion exists then so be it.

If you're suggesting a better job could be done in tracking who should be excluded that's one thing but I'm thinking the idea of the SS payments approach was considered too carte blanche. It could just be a matter of putting together a better implementation process than the one previously put forth.

And those aren't the people I was talking about or the people who would have been added to the damn FBI background check database either!

The vetoed law did not discriminate between those assigned a financial conservator due to mental illness or any other reason.

You're leaving part of it out on purpose. It's not just "love" your neighbor, it's "love your neighbor as thyself"

I get that. We give all kinds of aid to people all over the world. I give tithes and offerings to my Church to help spread the Word of Jesus Christ and to help the poor. If everyone was willing to give back to God what is all his to begin with, many of these people could be helped right where they are. We cannot house the entire world Huff. Wake Up. Loving people does not always mean you have to give them things.

We have borders for a reason. We have legal immigration laws for a reason. Use your common sense. We cannot take in everyone. Other countries also have a responsibility to do the right thing. Take are of their own people.

I am not sure you are following the bible quite as closely as you believe.

Yes you did. You accused him of “otherizing a wide variety of brown people,” because he was attacking you as racist. He wasn’t otherizing wide varieties of people except liberal progressives, as far as I know.

It appears the start of the discussion was deleted, but from what I saw, his explanation of why you’re a racist was nonsensical. A lot of what he says is nonsensical, but having a myopic, incorrect view of things doesn’t make him a racist any more than recognizing that Trump engages in vitriolic rhetoric about brown immigrants makes you one.

In that same post I did him a favor and encouraged him to distance himself from volfanjustin's comments...because I know he probably wouldn't want to be associated with them.

Again, I didn't leap to any conclusions. You have because apparently some of the posts in question have been deleted. I would encourage you to move on.

Nobody is saying house the entire world.

Restricting immigration beyond its current limits is not Christlike in any way, shape, or form. We have a labor shortage of 7 million workers. Those are Trump's numbers.

Trump supporters need to open up immigration or stop pretending to be on God's side.

Nobody probably does. We are of the Flesh. Too many DEMs get confused thinking the Government has to do everything for people. Just the opposite. People should be charitable, yes. But people also need to obey God's Word Stop the Abortions.

I am just tired of watching the news and hearing about how a mom at Walmart shielded her baby and died saving it. Or how a teacher at Sandy Hook died saving kindergarten kids. How you can't go to a concert without wondering if there is some idiot out there--Or even a Tennessee VOLS game. (it certainly has crossed my mind)

If you have a problem with background checks, then I would assume that you have something in your background that would prohibit you from having a gun. In other words, if you beat up your wife, you don't need a gun anyway.

I was hoping that today, Trump would push for approval of this bill.

This is the gun control legislation Mitch McConnell won't allow senators to vote on

If they want to change the law then so be it. Until then, we have to obey the laws. We have no idea who is coming across our borders and that is a security risk.

Just look at what's happening in Europe, California, etc. Do you really want that in your back yard? If so then invite them to your house and provide for them.

So you're asking me to think selfishly while telling me this is the Christian position? Makes no sense.

Your side is changing the law to restrict legal immigration and it's creating more illegal immigration. How are you missing this point?

On one had, god created the earth and populated it with its "children" and commanded us to be 'excellent to each other', on the other the assertion is that man made geographical delineations are legit carve outs on its command.

Yikes. Man, you've painted yourself into quite a corner.

No borders visible from space.

What law has been changed? I don't even see my side enforcing existing law.

Nope, not at all. God's people had borders and nations. They had walls for protection. Read the Bible.

We do not need any additional legislation! We just need to make sure all agencies required to report to NICS do so and fully. Background checks are useless if the background information isn't reported.
