Should you only be a fan of one school?

Is it just me or have the number of Vanderbilt fans quadrupled since yesterday? I live in the Nashville area and it always ticks me off that there are all these "fans" of Vanderbilt that you never hear from unless VU wins big (i.e. SEC Tourney) or beats UT. As a matter of fact, a lot of them don't claim to be exclusively Vandy fans and pull for other teams as well. So my pet peeve got me to thinking.

Do you guys think it is lame for people to be "fans" of more than one university?

P.S. I actually know someone who claims to be a fan of Kentucky, Florida, and LSU.

I'm a fan of several teams but a fan of only one SEC team. Tennessee first, last and always.

I pull for a lot of different teams, that I have ties to either through living there or association with my parents. Beyond that I actually actively root against all other SEX teams.

If there is such a thing, I need to get on one of those.

My son graduated the Naval Academy. It would be "lame" not to root for Navy as well as the Vols.

I have a buddy that goes to Alabama and grew up liking Vandy. He also has always been a Duke basketball fan. So he cheers for all three. I think it's ridiculous. Not to mention Alabama and Vandy are two of the my most hated schools.

I really don't think cheer for multiple teams is ok

I don't pay attention to other teams, nor claim to be a fan, but I could honestly see it, as long as it isn't hypocritical. An old co-worker was a Bama and Florida fan. How that works, I have no idea (maybe cause I'm I'm the middle and hate both). However if I decided to cheer for someone else, I could be an Auburn or maybe even LSU fan. No real hate here for them except when they play the Vols. But I don't ever see me wanting to cheer for someone else.

i have a friend who is an Al Obama fan, but only in Football, a UNC fan, but only in Bball...of course he attended neither school....to listen to him neither school has a bigger fan now that is lame...its like folks who pick the Yankees, Packers and Lakers as 'their' teams....until of course they start losing and then they switch loyalties..:ermm:

I'm a Vol by choice, but there are a couple of teams outside the SEC that I'm a fan of due to family ties. That is until they play the Vols; I've had my loyalties tested when Tennessee has played Michigan and Clemson, but I've always remained loyal to my Vols!

Very lame. I am a UT fan as far as college sports goes. Period. Damn the other schools, especially our rivals. I hope they lose every game, twice. I did not know who I wanted to lose more yesterday, Vanderbilt or Kentucky! Living in Nashville however I do understand Vandy be viable (in all major sports) is generally good for business. Just watching them hang that SEC Championship banner on the Channel 5 news this morning really pissed me off though.

Tennessee only. I'm not a big college Basketball fan, but always pull for the Vols. I hate Baseball but still will watch the Vols. I would draw the line at watching golf, but might check to see if we were winning. Been a Steelers fan since I was a kid in the 70s but I can watch other pro teams and like certain players. I watch S.E.C. football but find myself hating all the players. With the tradition of the college game being such a big part of it I just don't see how anybody can have more than one school. I had a cousin play at Va and just couldn't bring myself to pull for them.:twocents:
