Shouldn't be surprised to be 6-3

So basically, what you are saying is that you accept being mediocre and we all should too. Typical UT fan. Just be mediocre to pretty good and ho hum be happy.

Well that just won't cut it. Pearl showed us what this program could be with the right coach. This program should EXPECT and DEMAND to beat those kinds of teams, not EXPECT and settle for losing to them.

Without demanding more from our athletic department, and holding it accountable, guess what, we'll never get it.
Sorry. Have to agree with you 87.
It was this kind of thinking that destroyed our football program.

Well I think you need both kinds of posters. To keep the program on it's toes. We should support the team and coach but also hold them accountable. I do not complain much but I cherish the rights of those who do and I think our program needs both types of feedback. If you're always a good loser and accept it , well the administration will say the status quo is acceptable.

I think for a lot of fans it less about the loss to a top 10 team and more about the losing attitude that the players and coach exhibit

They are lethargic and we seem lost on both defense and offense. We miss way too many easy shots (including free throws) Many fans gripe about the boring style especially on offense that reminds us of Buzz-ball. I expect to lose a few games every year (not many teams go undefeated) but I also expect the team to play better than they have

Why even have an athletics program then? If that were everyone's mindset then we might as well close down the shop.

I'd pay money to watch people attempt to do something with their lives if UT didn't have one. Their lives revolve around watching 18-21 year olds play a game. They wouldn't know what to do with themselves. Kinda sad. Now, if you worked for the AD, supporting your child, etc, that'd be different. However, it seems that the majority are people that feel entitled just because they pay some money. Sad. Too many people feel they "deserve" championships when they've done zero to deserve it. Hence, why some of us hate seeing all the damn knee jerk reactions from people.

Be easy man. They are just fans and fans want to see their team win or at least see an exciting product on the court. Honestly Cuonzo hasn't won enough to get in the big dance, and his brand of basketball is hard to watch for people who actually enjoy watching Tennessee score the basketball. It's hard to be content with his inability to make the tournament and the dreadful offense he puts on the floor year after year. Add this to the fact that His predecessor Bruce Pearl went to 6 straight NCAA tournaments and an elite 8, and you have the perfect recipe for discontent inside the fan base.

To be honest, I could take a 45 pt average if CCM's team excelled at what he is known for... Defense

To this point of the season that has been our achilles heel. go figure

Who cares if we are 6-3 and scored 7 pts from 10 minute mark to 3 minute mark last game.
We have a top 20 ranking in offense efficiency. You complainers are clueless.

Coach Martin is in a very tough situation. Obviously. Third year - 2 bad losses this year- no NCAA tourney appearance "Yet". And has followed one of the best and most popular basketball coaches UT has ever had. Add in - he has a better than average group of basketball players on the roster to work with. The term "tough act to follow " seems appropriate. This makes for frustrated fans. Time table for results? End of this year or next?

Just can't until tomorrow so we can actually start talking about the next game. This board hasn't been worth logging on to the last few days.

No one should be surprised that we are 6-3 right now. We started off the season with a good Xavier team on the road. We shouldn't have played that game as our first game. Not surprising we lost.

You can forget that the second loss was to UTEP. We weren't going to win the B4A tourney not with Iowa and Kansas in the field. The goal was a 2-1 record which was achieved.

The Wichita St loss...did anyone really expect us to go on the road and beat an undefeated Top 10 team that was in the Final Four last year?

So we are 6-3 and the next four games are must wins at home. Lose any and we will be on the bubble once again.

The mens basketball program at Tennessee has seen success in the past. So, we know that it is possible to have success.

Jerry Green:

20 - 9, 21 - 9, 26 - 7, (Sweet 16) 22 -11

Don DeVoe:

21 - 12, 18 - 11, 21 - 8 (Sweet 16) 21- 10, 20 - 12, 21 - 14, 22 - 15

Bruce Pearl:

22 -8, 21 - 11 (Sweet 16) 31 - 5 (Sweet 16) 21 - 13, 28 -9 (Elite 8) 19 - 15

Why would we settle for the Wade Houston, Counzo Martin, Buzz Peterson & Kevin O Neil type records, when we can hire a better coach and get in the NCAA every season?????????????????

I'm going to laugh my arse off in March when the Vols are an 8 seed and the crow is served around here.

I will gladly eat mine. I honestly thought this team was a top ten team by mid season. Your saying 8 seed so your seeing around 30 teams better than us. I guess we will see.

GO VOLS...

My thoughts exactly !!! Why settle for crap, when we should be better than that? If you're a coach in any sport that really matters at UT, it's very simple. Win or be gone, PERIOD !!! In men's basketball, that means meeting the minimum standard, which should be making the NCAA's every single year.

This team looks meh. It's OK. We might do reasonably well in the weak SEC, losing to Kentucky, at least. We might squeeze into the tournament if we have a good league record--but I don't see this team beating anybody good. Lack of balanced scoring, lack of size inside--two burly guys who are tweeners and a general tendency to play lackluster basketball for long stretches. Hope the Vols prove me wrong but I doubt it.

You see people, this is freakin problem here...SOFT fans like this that always make excuses and coddles the teams and staffs. No, I didn't EXPECT us to go on the road and beat Wichita State, but we were right in the game the WHOLE way only to crumble again! Why not pull that big win out? We are Tennessee! We've been there before..no excuse not pulling that game out.

My advice to you is to stop accepting mediocrity...a common theme of this fanbase.

Well it's a common theme of 23.12% of the fan base.

Grass is not always greener. You leave your wife every time she has a shortcoming? You leave her two years into marriage because she didn't do every little thing absolutely perfect for you?

Yeah, I'd say we are about 30th best when it's all said and done. 2/3rd in the SEC and about 22-9ish. That's about right given our talent.

Just like we were last year and the year before that, right?

Oooooops, well scratch that I guess !

You and everyone else on the planet knows we should have been in last year. We were the only team the big 3 bracketologists got wrong, because a team 6 places below us and with no top 100 wins got picked ahead of us (when we had 4/5 top 100 wins, depending on which system you believe.

But, of course, you forget that little fact because it doesn't support your narrative.

Anyway, it of course shouldn't come down to that this year, and if it does you'll be vindicated. But most rational people (read: non haters of CCM) disagree with you.

We didn't get robbed last year. We played like crap at the wrong times, puckered up in big games, reverted to poor coaching methods, and blew it.
