Ask me, womens volleyball should be the top rated female sport on tv. They are by far the best looking, and that is of course my central criteria...

I don't know about best looking, but they certainly have the best outfit / body combos.

If the WNBA wanted better ratings, they would at least allow some of their hotter folks to wear similar things.

The WNBA is awful. That whole 4" vertical leap thing drives me crazy.
don't disagree, but LG1's bashing is just stale. CP plays the game the way that men do, she looks good doing it and is a positive to their game.

True, CP plays very well and I even thought that Taurasi kid was athletic at UConn, haven't seen her since. But CP athleticism represents about 0.00000001% of that league.

Its not that I dislike women's athletics, its that women's basketball is just so absurd. The game is played based on quickness, jumping, and other attributes too lengthy to list here.

Point is, the very things that make the game so outstanding are utterly missing from women's basketball. Would you tune in to watch junior high school basketball on national tv? A regular season game? No, because the product is just not very good.

I enjoy women's sports, particular Olympic-type events, where the women athletes possess the best set of skills to participate. But women's basketball does not come close -- and by that I mean even remotely in the same genre -- of displaying players who are the best at the game.

No. I'm saying you should be proud of her first as an outstanding student and great representative of the university. She is also very athletic and that's great.

But to pat her (or by extention you) on the back for being the best of what is at its very best just completely mediocre sport, is absurd.

Sarcasm noted, though misplaced. American football took awhile to become popular because people didn't know the game. Women's basketball will NEVER be popular for the opposite reason, which is to say that because we know how the game can be, this God-awful product that is the WNBA will never have much of an audience.

Though you and I agree on the abject valueless nature of the WNBA, your last statment is ridiculous. Once gain, because basketball fans know how good the sport is when played by the best, they are going to reject something so far below what they know is possible.

I reiterate that I think Candace Parker is a terrific person. I was very impressed by her and you ought to be proud of her as an alum. But please stop there. Don't try to make believe that she is some kind of superstar basketball player. If any woman could ever pull that off its her and she will never even come remotely close by any measure to what the most average NBA player accomplishes.

That was a very well thought out post. It's a shame that a sexist had to think it. The WNBA wile not the high flying slam dunk fest that is the NBA is more fundamentally sound. I can appreciate that you enjoy the flash of the NBA, but you can't say that the WNBA is a mediocre sport. If half the NBA teams played with the discipline of the women games it would be a much more competitive league. Instead they get by on athleticism alone with few exceptions.:salute:

taurasi is not very athletic, but is the most clutch player the women's game has seen. Downside to Taurasi is that she is as ugly as a mud rail fence.

Ball handling wise, I thought she was head and shoulders above anything around her in college.

enormous fallacy. The jumpball fest that is womens ball is not more fundamentally sound. It's a hackfest amidst generally limited athleticism.

Regardless, LG1 is overstating the case, but he's right about the TV worthiness of the sport.

She does look good doing it relative to crap. She is a positive for a game that is otherwise crap.

My main point was that if Candace took the floor in an NBA game she's be obliterated by the speed and athleticism of the competition. Its all relative.

Remidns me a bit of the Seinfled episode where Kramer does judo against the 12 year olds. Only the reverse. Put Parker in an NBA game and she is the lone 12 year old against five people, each of whom is infinitely better than her.

Why would I watch the game just because, relative to the horrid player she is up against, she is good when, in reality compared to the best players, she is squished?

I am no fan of the NBA, believe me. I enjoy the playoffs, but to me the bulk of the regular season games are lethargic, half-hearted efforts in a season of 82 games that is about 50 games too long.

With all the mindless crap on T.V. today surely we can come up with a better argument against the WNBA that that. Surely there are more people that want to watch the WNBA that say ping-pong or darts. 350 channels with 24 hrs to fill.

THANK YOU!!! Saying the WNBA is more fundamentally sound than the NBA is absurd!

The league itself is a farce. Women's athletics is not, but the WNBA is. It loses millions a year, and the NBA forced ABC/ESPN to show games by making it part of the NBA package. Do you think ABC/ESPN wants these games on their stations?

Candace is going to do for the WNBA what Beckham did for soccer in the U.S.
Gimme a break! No matter how bad you think womens BB is, it is better than soccer! At least basketball is a real sport.

this very moment, I'm struggling very hard to come up with something on ESPN that I'd prefer less than the WNBA. Maybe some of their forays into drama and Who's Now?, but generally, there ain't much worse.

It's really not fair to compare her to men.:cray: Lets not have mens gymnastics in the Olympics anymore because the women are so much better than them.

I'd take either over the WNBA.
