SI: Strong to stay at Louisville

Clearly, anyone who turns down the Tennessee job has self-esteem and self-confidence issues...the fact that Louisville has 18 starters back next season had no bearing whatsoever on Strong's decision to stay put.

I seriously doubt it's a self esteem or confidence issue with Charlie Strong however it is a fact that alot of coaches would not come to Tennessee because we play Georgia, Florida, Alabama and even USC jr every year plus usually one very good out of conference team like Oregon. That is a daunting schedule to play especially when we don't have a fertile recruiting base. UT fans expect to be top third of the SEC and right now that's not an easy thing to accomplish for any coach.

Oh I agree with you, especially now that UGA and South Carolina have upgraded their programs. It's going to be tough sledding for whoever replaces Dooley.

My old high school coach is retired and he's not doing anything. We could probably get him. We would have to pay him less than $13,000 a year so he could still draw his social security.

Never mind, I called and asked him and he said he thought he'd just take a job as a door greeter at Wal-Mart instead.

My fellow orange brothers and sisters, this has officially gotten embarassing.

Not to mention a QB that will in all likelihood be in the hunt for a Heisman next year. Plus reportedly hes getting a fat raise to the tune of 4.7 million a year. To coach at a basketball school where they dont have high expectations for the football program. They're just happy if they dont suck. I seriously doubt if TN was offering him that kind of coin. Pretty easy decision.

Got the text and was confused. I thought Louisville said there would be no presser today

It's a solid representation of a coach with character and dedication to a program and a group that he built....it's someone actually doing the right thing and not making it about the $$. Makes me realize how much we lost by not getting him but in my opinion NOONE or no amount of money was taking him away

Strong took less money to stay...he just said that "you cannot buy a man's heart" on his press conference. That's how I take it...

The timeline he laid out was interesting and quite different from what was reported. Phone call on Friday, first meeting on Monday, offer on Tuesday, declined Wednesday without renegotiation of contract. Sounds like UT didn't try very hard. Strange.

That's why I thought early on he would never leave Louisville. I was surprised when it looked like he might leave.

According to a lot of reporting, when initially offered the job, Strong said yes. Hart then gave him a day to think it over because he didn't want to announce a new head coach the same day Fulmer was being inducted into the coaching hall of fame.

That was a huge error. During that time, Strong was in Louisville where his players, assistants, and administration all had the chance to talk him out of taking the UT job. Once someone says yes you put them on a plane that goes straight to UT and that's the end of the story. You don't pass go, you don't collect $200, you don't do anything else but get them into your house where you control what goes on, period. Strong was given too much time to question himself and this is the result.

If you search, there is a Youtube video where the Louisville AD talks about how he hired Strong and then Strong also talks about that process. The Loiusville AD knows what he is doing, he is a real AD. Hart is a joke and needs to be immediately replaced with someone who knows how to do the job. In the interim, let the top boosters like Haslam handle this search. Those guys know how to close the deal. If Cheek gets in the way, fire his ass as well. After reading the things Cheek has written about how he wants to change the university, I am convinced he is a clueless idiot that needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
