The best scenario yet. That would make everyone happy. Over the past couple of weeks I've became confident that Ray will have some impact over what Kasey does for next year. This would work out perfect.

He did say he didn't want to be an owner again so it might take some convincing to do. Perhaps he would be open to a deal like 50-50 or 51-49 with Finch. Plus I wonder how his contract with RPM will work, he has a no competition clause he is trying to get out of. Would be interesting like you said.

I could see Ray and Martin buying and splitting it along with Finch. This would allow James to be competitive. From what I hear, Finch is a competitor. He's not in the business to get a quick dollar and then leave.

Maybe 50-25-25, Ray said he doesn't want to be an owner again but wants to be a consultant or involved in management. Plus the RPM's contract issues have to be sorted out. Also Mark has denied interest in ownership again.

Anyways I read that Aric Almirola will be in JRM's #88 next week, when he makes his start JRM will have had 14 different drivers between its two cars. Talk about a revolving door over there. It was mentioned by Kelley Earnhardt that Aric is being considered for the #88 full time in 2011.

Aric has potential. We've saw what he did with JGR in the Busch Series in limited opportunites and what he's done for Billy Ballew this year. I'll scrap his DEI Cup efforts based on circumstances. The reason Sadler is out's because he doesn't want to travel back to ORP and Indy. He's focusing on his cup effort.

I think Aric would be a good deal for a full time shot in the 88.

Here is a little theory I just started forming in my head;

Ray Evernham has said he wants to come back and help Rick in some form or fashion, potentially next year, and is waiting on some RPM contract clauses to be worked out if I'm not mistaken before he can do so. Let's say Ray, with backing from Rick, invests into Finch's Phoenix operation and gains 50% ownership. Under this theory Bobby Labonte would be retained for 2011 in the 09 car, Rick than allows Phoenix to lease the #25 for a season, Bobby would keep the 09 locked in by his PCP and Rick would only need to find OPs for the 25 car. Where could he get them? Let's see, Jeff is listed as the owner of the 48 so it that would satisfy the Nascar rule and allow Kasey to be locked in for the first five races as well. Why keep Bobby you ask? Well from what I understand the Labonte family and Finch go back a long time and James said he'd like to keep Bobby full time if funding could be had, and with Rick backing Phoenix they would get it too.

It would also allow an additional teammate for Kasey to bounce ideas back and forth with as well. I know its kinda far fetched idea for a team that hasn't even run a full season once with one car in its entire history suddenly field two full time cars for 2011 but with HMS backing any thing could possible. Oh and Ray did love working with KK. Then in 2012 it would then lead to the "hiring" of Mark Martin to drive the Phoenix Racing 25 Chevy after he steps away from Hendrick. In 2012 the driver stable at Phoenix would then be Mark Martin in the 25 and Bobby Labonte in the 09 with both locked in.

Anyways thoughts and opinions on my crazy little scheme?

The RPM no compete clause could be more firm than you are thinking.

Bobbie's PCP is only good for 5 races, and how does Mark Martin get one?

Evernham mentioned something along the lines of having to sell his stock in RPM before going to another team. I'm not sure how much he has in stake with them or how difficult it would be to part ways.

Well actually six but by the fifth race Bobby should be well within the top-35 IMO. I didn't say Mark would get the PCP but use the 25's owner points from 2011 to be locked in for the first five races.

That is assuming the 25 is in the top 35.

This is old news but Wood Brothers Racing are wanting to return full time racing in 2011 if sponsorship permits. They said Awesome Bill could potentially come along for the ride, he said that he would be open to returning for one or two seasons but no more. That would be amazing, I'd love to see Bill running the full season again. Plus the return of the 21 and WBR to full time would be amazing as well. The article was dated Feb. 1st so nothing new has come from it but I'd thought I'd share.

I'd like to see them back full time along with Morgan-McClure, Bud Moore, BAM, Junie Donlevy, Bill Davis, et al.

Give it time, there will be only 10 owners eventually.

Don't have any desire to see Elliot run two more years in 35th place. For him it's got to be beter than sitting at home though.

I agree, but I would like to see the #21 back full time with a competitive driver.

Got me to thinking, which is the longest existing driver/owner combo? I would have to guess Jeff Gordon/Hendrick. What would be the next oldest?

MWR announced they resigned David Reutimann through 2012 and resigned Aaron's for 30 races each in 2011 and 2012. Also read on twitter that in the next 3-4 weeks that Mark Martin will announce he is stepping aside for KK in 2011. Hopefully its wrong but I have a feeling that is what he's planning, Mark is too good of a nice guy to stay there IMO.

Maybe Kenseth?

I didn't look it up, but I can't think of anyone else of the top of my head.

I think you're right. I can't think of another driver that's been with an owner longer.

Harvick has been with RCR since '01. That is also the year Kenseth joined Rousch. Burton also joined RCR along time back. There are several drivers that have long standing relationships with their owners.

I can't believe I managed to forget all about Harvick.
