Silly Season 2011 Discussion

I like the idea of bringing Kenny Francis over with Kahne, moving Gustafson to the 88 and putting Lance McGrew back in the shop.

If Jr. can't win with Alan Gustafson than there is no hope for him.

I feel pretty sure this is what is in the works. If KK gets in good equipment with Kenny as the crew chief then the 5 will challege the 48 for the championship.

I know I read somewhere that Francis is likely going to stay and that HMS is going to keep Gustafson with the 5 team.

KK did an interview a few weeks back and said things were "being talked about" to keep him and Kenny together.

Well I'm watching Ryan McGee's chat today and he said that by Wednesday we should hear something official on Paul Menard coming to drive for RCR next year, I think its a done deal keep reading its going to go down this week. Ryan also said that in a round about way that Bud is going to announce they are sponsoring Harvick within the next three weeks or so, he said his bet is by Atlanta.

AJ Allmendinger has re-signed with RPM to drive the #43 still. Its my opinion of Paul Menard leaves like he is rumored too RPM will down size to two cars, the #43 for AJ and the #9 for Marcos Ambrose (if he signs).

Kahne going to Red Bull for 2011 NASCAR season? | www.thatsracin.com

First it was Mark Martin to Red Bull now its Kasey Kahne to Red Bull. I still don't see it happening myself. Rick wants to see KK in a HMS backed Chevy and I don't see RBR switching to Chevy either. I don't know why Rick is holding all this up, just stick him in Finch's operation and be done with it. Its the best option for all parties involved.

Rejoice Nascar fans, Kevin Conway could be losing his ride after his bad performances and low speeds throughout the season. Its being said that Front Row is potentially looking for another driver to keep the #34 locked into the top-35 they can't afford to lose another entry out of it. Plus they can't afford to keep switching Conway to the highest ranked FRM car in the top-35. Word is Extenze will be continuing to sponsor the car without Conway.

Here is a scenario I could see playing out:

Elliott Sadler is reportedly looking for a new ride and he isn't a top notch free agent teams are looking at. He would be the ideal hire for a team like FRM to make. It would allow Sadler to continue racing in Cup for awhile longer. Conway is dumped and Sadler/RPM part ways and he goes to his new team.

That leaves the #19 open and needing a driver, and who is rumored to be the target of the #9/#19 car next year? Enter Marcos Ambrose, he has said he would be willing to step out of the #47 for Bobby Labonte if the team needs him too. He could get a jump start on 2011 with his new team and can start playing nice for the sponsors (Stanley Tools/Hunt Brothers Pizza are returning I believe) plus he can start building those relationships.

Now finally we come to Bobby Labonte. He is going week to week hoping he has a ride. With Marcos now in the #19 car for the rest of the season he can enter his new ride at JTG-D Racing. It will be good for Labonte to start getting the feel for his new equipment and personnel on the team.

Plus having lame duck drivers is never a good thing for teams and there sponsors. It allows all three drivers to start promotional work and such with the new sponsors and get jump starts on the 2011 season. Let's face it all three drivers are slumping and the change of scenery could do them good.

Anyways he is the report I saw: Watkins Glen Garage Chatter | The NASCAR Insiders

I'll believe Conway is out of the ride when I see it.

True but I want him gone, the only thing he is consistent in is being slow. Anyways Max Papis is being pushed out of the #13 ride and appears Casey Mears will take over by Atlanta. A shame because I like Mad Max and how many more chances is Mears going to get? HMS, RCR, Red Bull? He hasn't done nothing in any one of them, he needs to get out...

Mears is on a mission to compete with every team in Sprint Cup. It also appears GEICO will go with Max and Germain full time in the trucks next year. That's what he needs.

Sources: Hendrick completes deal for Kasey Kahne to drive Red Bull Racing Toyota in 2011 | NASCAR News Now - SceneDaily.com

Looks like its a done deal. I gotta say I'm surprised, I figured he would end up in the #09 or at least in a Chevy. Wonder who is he is going to replace? Speed or Vicker? Also Bob Pockrass said Francis could go with but hasn't been decided, also he says a 3rd car is doubtful.

According to Lee Spencer at Foxsports.com, Redbull is likely switching to Hendrick powered Chevys and Kahne would replace Speed if Vickers is healthy to drive next season.

Kahne just tweeted "its going to be awesome driving for Red Bull next year." I guess that answers that.

Paul Menard to Richard Childress Racing is official; Official Site of RCR NASCAR Racing

I expect him to run a partial NNS schedule for KHI splitting time between Harvick, Bowyer, and Burton.

Also Bud is scheduled to announce next Tuesday that they will be sponsoring the #29 car next year, though it won't be for the full year. RCR will not have some serious cash flow now with them adding a high dollar sponsor in Bud and Menards.

I bet Elliott Sadler wishes his dad owned a chain of home improvement stores.

I'm hearing Kevin Conway in the #7 car this week. This would kill FRM losing him. He's bringing cash. I can't see them surviving as a 3 car team without him.

That's interesting, because Robby tweeted this morning he would be running the #07 and will have a driver announced for the #7 shortly. I wonder if Extenze is wanting to keep him and FRM is just dumping him? Because Extenze denied they were planning on releasing Conway.

I honestly can't see FRM losing Conway based on the sponsorship dollars. Personally I think it could be David Stremme, but if Robby's giving up his seat he must have something lined up with someone bringing sponsorship.

Car owner Bill Stavola fired up for return to Sprint Cup - USATODAY.com

Appears Bill Stavole will be making a return to Nascar. He and Terry Labonte are teaming up with RCR to form Stavole Labonte Racing. Read where Terry will run the Richmond, Charlotte, and Texas races this year and the first five races next year in order to lock them in via the PCP before turning it over to a young guy for full time.

With car counts down it's the best idea to jump in now. That said, I can't see them being very competitive or attracting a good young talent.

Its PJ Jones in the #7, kind stupid for Robby to give up his locked in ride to a guy like PJ but I'm not Robby so oh well.

I'd say Robby will just focus everything on the 07 and get it in the show. After that, he'll switch out with PJ. If he DNQ's, he'll switch out with PJ.

Robby was worried that PJ would crash it like he did at Pocono. He figures if the 7 is already locked in then they can do limited laps with it in practice.
