Since we blame Zo when players play poorly

slowing down the O and standing around leads to low energy and us standing around on the other end. We play with good speed and attacking mentality and our D steps up too. Guys are jacked up, feet move laterally quicker, more ready and aware for help D. Then go score in @ 15 seconds or at least get a good look and do it again.
Next thing you know, it's 5 minutes in and you have 20 pts and a team already on their heels.
Game over.
Walk it up and go to Maymon with 10 seconds on the shot clock several times the first 5 minutes and watch as we have @ 6 pts and our body language already sucks.
Why revert to the latter?

I give credit for neither to ZO, never liked the hire never will. I still want him gone after this season!

As our basketball history has shown, Tennessee can do a LOT worse than 10+ win SEC seasons. And, as our recent football history has shown us, we better be careful what we ask for. It wasn't that long ago we were down where Auburn is now in basketball.

If you look at the trend of the program in Pearl's last few seasons and then compare it to Martin's three seasons, Martin has a passing grade. Now, he needs to get us to the NCAA tournament, but I would not cut him loose after three straight 10 win conference seasons even if it doesn't happen this year.

Our fans seem so entitled. They think that just because we have players wearing orange, the coach should be able to just roll the balls out there and win national titles. It is a little bit more difficult than that. Again, 10+ win conference records should not be ignored. I don't care what the perceived strength of the conference is. I remember us being much, much worse.

"Not sucking" shouldn't be the goal for a top 5 basketball attendance school which also happens to be one of two revenue generating sports. My realistic goal is consistent tournament appearances with an occasional deep run. We already know that's possible with the right coach.

I don't care what other people think, Martin is still not the answer to our problems. Yea, he's been on a winning streak but against pretty bad teams. He's still WAY too inconsistent as a coach and he shows ZERO emotions on the sidelines. Why not hire a coach who can motivate his players to do the best they can and take up for his players when there's a bad call he doesn't like? Not once have I seen Martin get upset and get a technical in a game. He's struggled his 1st year, struggled his 2nd year, and is still struggling this year too with a very talented roster. We may barely squeeze into the tournament and that would be a huge improvement from his last two seasons but that's still not enough. I've seen all the proof I needed to see to know that he's not what Tennessee basketball needs. If Hart doesn't make a coaching change after this season, it would be a HUGE mistake. I'd still love to have Pearl back but I'd take a chance of hiring any coach out there in a heart beat than retaining Martin. You can holler "If he makes the tournament, he deserves another year" all you want too but facts are facts, he hasn't proved anything to us that he can make Tennessee basketball relevant again. The longer Martin stays here, the more it gets worse.

You should have just stopped after your first sentence "if you don't care what other people think."

There have clearly been some coaching issues this year, and I have maintained that I just want to get into the NCAAT and deal with coaching later. I do not believe that Hart will fire him if we make the NCAAT although I could make an argument that he could. That said, I think next year's team could be better than people think but probably not good enough to make the NCAAT. Next two weeks should be interesting.

This is his first season?

I didnt realize anyone had been invited to the dance this yr. If you were completely impartial towards both teams, most would feel that Johnny has LSU headed toward a better future bc he is better at recruiting so far then Zo. Kind of like with Butch.....noone claims Butch gets it bc of our 5-7 season....It's bc he is kicking butt recruiting.

So one season is a track record?

Unless he wins the SECT, he clearly won't make it this year. The problem with Jones (kind of like Martin with McRae) is that O'Bryant is his best player and not someone he recruited. I don't know how Mickey and Martin will develop, but he needed to take advantage of O'Bryant in a down SEC. Not sure O'Bryant will be back.

Really? People waited until after all those recruits signed the LOIs to say "Butch gets it"? They've been saying that since his presser, long before he started recruiting.

May of been jokes about it but when we started getting the Jalen Hurds of the world we started believing it....Im full Butch LOL

Yeah he could have done better....not doubting that, he does have a 7' 300 pound four star coming in next yr....You definitely have to coach whatever talent you get to come in.

You may want to try watching a game now and then.
Martin's actually been quite animated on the sideline of late.

Jones has done worse this year than last, that's not exactly trending in the right direction. He added talent, this was supposed to be the year, didn't happen. He's gonna lose his guards and best all around player this offseason, don't see them being much better next season.

With the class he had this year, and talent he had returning, they shouldn't be hovering around 7th place in the SEC.

Johnny has not done any better than Martin. Sun Belt is a weaker conference than the Missouri Valley and his win/loss isn't better than mediocre. Martin's recruiting has been good but not consistently good, he's brought in two 5 star players in his first two classes.

You had a nice steal in the open court last night man. You saved a layup. :good!:

Uhh thanks, I really just try to go out there and do my best to help the team. Whether that's getting rebounds or stepping out and hitting the 3.

lol Keep it up. We need the added spark off the bench.

Don't care when they play well, this is still the most boring basketball to watch. Get rid of him and bbb! I watched and enjoyed even when they lost.
