Sirius radio Bill King disses Defensive staff

I tried the radio to listen to the show, but that dang signal just doesn't reach Utah. I am a fan and have been for years, but by looking at the number of posts you and Boca Vol have on here, you don't have much else going on in your life except memorizing names and stats..:salute:

Yeah, that's what it is, brain surgeon. Boca and I just memorize stats. Nothing to do with the fact that both of us have followed the Vols for a quite a few years, one of which of the 98 undefeated NC season, so names that contributed to that accomplishment would stand out. But its fact memorizing in your mind, right? Nothing to do with watching the Vols since 1975, graduating from there, and being a season ticket holder.

Its sad that you looked so stupid no only asking about a contributing member of an epic team but then trying to defend yourself in not knowing or even bothering to look up who he was. Since you want to assume on Boca's and my fact memorization we'll just assume then you'e in rural Utah because of some court order that decreed you shouldnt procreate due to lack of intelligence. Now that the Utes have joined the Pac 12 this might be a good time to jump ship since you have no clue on what the Vols are.

Who's in a hurry to be right? I am simply unconvinced by his body of work with special attention to last year.

You were in a rush with such analysis PRIOR to last year...starting with expectations for win totals...discounting talent gaps and scheme adjustments for personnel...not hating on you, but you fit the profile.

About the young d lineman, didn't Carl Lawson start last year, as a true freshman. I could be wrong but I think they had two true freshman play DL. Our line won't be 4 true freshman for crying our loud. We got vereen and saulsberry coming back. I'm sure well have one more upperclassman step up and then we'll only need one of these newcomers to be great and few serviceable guys to rotate. It's not all doom and gloom people.

I hate to see this happen, but I guess he has to do something to draw attention to his name/program. He may be correct in his prediction, but I would rather he report news rather than predict events in the future which can adversely effect Tennessee's football program. MPO.

He has to do something to draw attention to himself? What? He has the number one CFB radio show in America. I think he's doing ok without having to draw attention to himself. He has had very good things to say about Tn and about Butch. He just said what every reasonable Tn fan has thought at some point. Jancek and WM were NOT part if what Butch envisioned as the best staff in America.

Wow! that was impressive. Tell me what seats you're in and I'll look for you and missing front teeth on the TV. Now go back to the tobacco field and save up your money for that ticket.:salute:

This AM on Sirius college radio, Bill King predicted Butch would make defensive coach changes w/in 18 months. He said Butch swung and missed on a few defensive coaches but mentioned no names. What are your thoughts on who they will be & why?

At about 8:30 this morning Bill King was defending himself on the exact topic of this thread and how he called TN downfall after 98 and wouldn't win SEC championship for many years. I caught last minute of his statement. I don't know if a VN member called in or what....

the major reason that staff changes are coming are because additional stud recruiters are needed. at least 2. Thigpen can't last long at the pace he is on.. defense will not be all that good this year allowing changes on that side of the ball...

I would love to see Manny Diaz on this staff. He's a very good coach (although he was the fall guy for Mack Brown) and is a fantastic recruiter with very strong ties in Miami and South FL.

Sure the patient fans of "failed defensive coordinators" Jancek and Martinez would fully embrace him. :glare:

Sorry but discussing expectations does not constitute drawing a final conclusion. The staff underperformed the roster last fall. My hope and tentative belief is that they "invested" last year to build a foundation knowing it could cost them wins early on.

That said, Jancek does not have a great resume and did nothing that was impressive last fall that can be seen from the outside.

The O didn't have a great year either but you could see glimpses of what they are developing IMO. Jancek just looked outclassed.

He has more talent this year...I'll judge his performance THIS YEAR with that in mind.

My basis for judging his performance is Wilcox. Wilcox didn't exactly inherit a great squad either but "made lemonade".

I'll judge his performance by HIS performance...and hope he counts better than Wilcox did against LSU.

wasn't martinez the DB coach at okla when they gave up a record for yards passing in one game?

think he will try to top that with UT in Norman this year?

Yeah...he'll "try".

There is no depth on the defensive front to speak of . Teams like Bama and LSU have a 3 deep or 4 deep with minor fall off between the 1's and 2's and the ability to platoon guys for special situations

We have a 1 deep ...maybe a 2 deep

That gives us 1 half of football

No coach in the country can overcome that . Not covering for the defensive staff , but I am saying that the jury is out until we can get enough bodies in to make a fair assessment .

Here's Bill King's resume:

Bill has more than 25 years experience in the sports radio talk show industry. Between the years of 1988 and 2001 King earned a national reputation while on Nashville's 50,000-watt blowtorch 1510 WLAC and it's 28 state evening signal… the show called the Sports Scene was well before its time focusing on college football and basketball. During this time, he was also a pioneer in updates to keep the fans in touch with the college action. King built-out the wildly successful Rivals Radio Show on Sirius Channel 122 XM Channel 143 heard daily 7-10 am Monday thru Friday and was the host of the Rivals Radio Show from its beginning when launched in January 2005 up until February 2011. Bill launched "ON CAMPUS" with BILL KING March 1, 2011 SIRIUS/XM CHANNEL 91. "The VOX of college sports" has covered the Super Bowl, various BCS Championship Games, numerous NCAA Final Fours, and the College World Series. A confessed college sports junkie that began studying football & basketball recruiting prospects in the 1970’s as a youngster rummaging through out-of-town newspapers… he's a walking encyclopedia of college sports information. Bill readily admits that he believes the best collegiate offense he's ever seen was Nebraska 1983 and they lost to Miami, FL in Orange Bowl… go figure! Also, he believes the best collegiate defense was the Alabama 1992 edition.

Reading through his resume it would seem Jancek was not considered DC material by UGA. Even at Cincy he was only the "sole" DC for one year. He deserves another year but I would think the leash is short for him.

He is just a little short guy who wants to act big. He wants to be a big guy sooo badly. He went to UT and used to have a huge show back in the day before internet came along. Well, Bob Bell made the show, but he thought he did. He was wrong as usual. He knows nothing about recruiting and he used to hang his hat on it. He is very very seldom ever right about anything. He used to think he was close to the program and had the "in", but something happened between he and the Fulmer staff years ago. They shut him down and wouldn't let him in anymore. So he made it his personal crusade to dog the Vols every day for the rest of his life. All of this is true.......

Holy S***. (SMH)

Jones's defensive coaching staff have been with him a long time. They have put A LOT of talent in the NFL. His defensive players get drafted A LOT. How many young men have bill put in the NFL? How many have you?

Jones' staff are successful exactly BECAUSE they have been together for so long. Jones prides himself on the consistency of his staff. This is knee deep horse pucky and yet again I have to disagree with .... where do you people come up with this mess? I'm STUNED by the amount of falsehood.

Jones is KNOWN for putting defensive guys in the NFL BECAUSE of his staff. To boot, we just hauled in a pants load of defensive recruits that makes bam a jealous. A defensive haul like this hasn't been seen... since I don't know when....

LOTS of CAPS make this statement TRUE. I'm STUNED some don't AGREE with YOU.

So, uhhh, yeah. What does the amount of players I've coached into the NFL have to do with anything? Let me borrow a page of yours -- not coaching precludes US from commentary, but not YOU? The notion is entirely irrelevant and silly for you to bring up.

To your assumed main point, loyalty to guys that cannot maintain the standard of coaching and recruiting needed, just for loyalty's sake, will do nothing but get you fired faster. I'm all for continuity, but objective A. is winning ball games. And I think there are some guys on staff that carry their weight, and some guys that don't. That has to be addressed, at some point. I'd rather it be sooner than later.

Now I must say that I, too, love double Ds. So we agree there. Cheers to that, and to well-endowed females everywhere.

I will concur on the best college D that I have seen being Bama 92.

Best ever though has to be Neyland's unbeaten and unscored upon.
