Sirius radio Bill King disses Defensive staff

Bill King is on point and very connected with the great minds in college football. Unfortunately, his show has changed a lot over the years toward more rants and raves. He has not had many positive comments for anyone other than Alabama, Auburn, or FSU this spring. He's a real SEC guy at heart. I think he's a vol fan but didn't like how Fulmer situation went down.

About the Fulmer situation, I'll tell Billy Boy the same thing I heard for 16 years anytime I brought up how Coach Majors was treated. He's gone, get over it, move on.

My Lord. We just played a season with two DBs at LB. A walk on running back at nickel. A freshman corner, and without two of our top 3 DTs on the depth chart. The D got no help in terms of possession from the O, and they still managed to be better than the previous year. This thread is ridiculous. And once we start winning, the recruiting will take care of itself and Thig will get a break.

Gosh, when you put it that way.... it almost sounds like that coupled with the strength of schedule is almost.... excusable??!?!?!?!!?! :p

So maybe, just MAYBE, and I mean maybe.......

We should give our program time to stabalize under the guys bringing in elite talent? Just a crazy thought lol.

"Much" improved? That's relative. It was the second worst scoring D in the history of UT football and NO it wasn't just "talent" or "speed". The only thing keeping it from being the worst was Dooley's failed hiring of Sunseri.

You must be one miserable man.

I'm assuming it was a comfort issue with Jones, especially with Jancek. I don't know if Martinez would get axed, because he's a decent recruiter

Like LWSVOL said, the defense will likely suck balls this year and Jones can't afford to hang on to Jancek if it even appears no improvement is made this season.

Only hope is Jancek pulls a rabbit out of his hat

Again, this is the DC that got crushed by Dooley at home

I almost hope he doesn't . I hope we win a lot of 41-37 games and replace some defensive coaches with some good defensive recruiters

and would've been a bowl team with a crappy schedule like most bowl teams have, instead of the toughest in the country, in year 1.
VN's loudest have no perspective on much of anything.

and people complain that a team with 3 nfl wr's, 1 nfl qb, 1 nfl TE and 5 Nfl OL put up points and won a game against inferior talent at home.
How dare Cincy lose that game.

So assuming he does want to can somebody on the defensive side after 2014...where does he go? Who is there he could possibly get rid of besides Jancek, if he would even do that?

Stripling - DL - Jones' right hand man, assistant head coach and probably best friend
Thigpen - LB - Stud Top 5 CFB recruiter, solid LB coach
Martinez - DB - Solid DBs coach, good recruiter, improved our 2013 pass defense to 27th in the nation with basically the same guys Sal had

I mean, who are you gonna cut here? It's gotta be Jancek...but that doesn't even add up, he's known and worked with Jones for a long time. Jones is well-known for his professional loyalty. It's what makes his entire system go.

Its fun to go back to the 2011 Threads about Cincinnati and see how much Vols talk down the defense that they point to as a reason to keep Jancek

Great Times!!

You don't win Championships by keeping people that don't produce because you are loyal

My thought also, what is the best way to increase ratings, call out UT for something. They know we are still on the edge with our schedule and turnover of the roster. Give it time, Butch knows best that recruiting is the jew of college Football, look at Saban, until he found his way to the big schools that recruits wanting to follow history he did nothing, Butch knows the VFL legecy will keep feeding the system and time is the regulator.

Why don't you instead hope we win a bunch of 28-7 ball games and get behind the staff that's already busting its ass for you. We pulled in a top 5 class last year and we re on our way this year. We need continuity and for this staff to maximize the talent we ALREADY have.

If Butch is a man of his word, and intends to assemble the best staff in the country, obviously Saban will be coaching the DB's.

If he waits until the end of the 18 month period you mentioned then that would be after the 2015 season.

I see no reason why anyone who predict what will happen to our football staff in 18-24 months unless he is trying to undermine our football recruiting.

Twenty hers ago, King had the best sports radio program in the South which was broadcast on WLAC in Nashville. At that time, he had a lot of connections with the Tennessee staff and had a lot of inside information. Most of the time, I would say he was in Tennessee's corner and I listened to his show almost every weekday night. When WLAC was sold and became a political station, King lost his job and I was unable to get his new show when I lived in Atlanta. During that time he also lost most of his contacts at Tennessee and he changed his attitude toward the VOLs. It appears to me that he has now become anti Tennessee.

I hate to see this happen, but I guess he has to do something to draw attention to his name/program. He may be correct in his prediction, but I would rather he report news rather than predict events in the future which can adversely effect Tennessee's football program. MPO.

This^^^^^ It's all about the PPV money or next college football gig. Bill King was the first recruiting guru I knew of back in the day and was the Tennessee counterpart to Forrest 'Bamaman' Davis and Max Emfinger. Now you can't swing a dead cat without hitting somebody that's an expert in college football recruiting. I would think he draws a substantially smaller fanbase now than he did in the old WLAC days with 50000 watts of clear channel.

IIRC correctly Jancek was not at first named DC even though he was announced a part of the staff. The story that they whiffed on a DC seems plausible. Stripling was a late addition. Doesn't take a genius to match the theoretical dots. Doesn't matter anyway staff for this season is set.

Stripling was NOT a late addition. He stayed behind to coach the bowl game. Jancek is said to have told CBJ he wanted to be a part of the staff even if it wasn't as DC.

I think I know what's coming. Florida lays another egg and we hire muschamp at DC

I would not be opposed to that. Of course with the reload on D line this year and lack of depth last year some would say that wouldn't be fair to Jancek. However....life ain't fair.

I consider him a Vandy homer and a pusher of some weight loss program.
