Sitting here watching this presser....

We didnt hire him to be good with the press, we hired him to win games. He's no nonsense, high character and integrity guy with a lot of confidence. What is not to like?

Yea he was hired to recruit great players... not put them to sleep during his "come to tennessee" speech...

Dooley loves to talk and will...all day long. About anything. Martin agrees to answer lame questions that he could anticipate in his sleep because it's his job to answer them. Very different personalities when it comes to the press.... I think.

More than likely the case, and I would say he will open up down the road. I'm sure he just wants to get things setup first.

Following Pearl, 99.9% of coaches are going to seem a little "boring."

When it comes to charisma and personality, Pearl's in a league of his own. But, unless they start handing out trophies for chest-painting and PTI appearances, Martin will have a shot to be successful here.

conveniently an optimist…. hand me some of that orange Kool-Aid spin juice.

Martin seems kind of boring, yet he seems to value the same approach as Dooley does in football. Not sure what to think at this point.

Tennessee hit a home run with this guy. He was on the top of my list from the get go. I didn't even think we would look at him knowing Hamilton. Somebody else must have researched him because Hamilton is not smart enough to make thjis choice. All you negative people chill and give this guy time. Go Vols.

Struck me as the kind of man that commands attention. The sort people just naturally pay attention to. Quiet leadership. First impression for me was very solid.

Reminds me of Tony Dungy with that quiet leadership, let your walk do the talk aspect.

I disagree. Let's not forget the drama that surrounds the program right now with Pearl's dramatic exit and the NCAA allegations looming. The presser was quick, to the point, and CCM was unwilling to disclose a lot of information for good reason.

CDD came into a completely different situation.

Addressing some of your points, the "drama" might play a part. But I think that the difference is that Coach Dooley was 'one of us'. He knew the SEC. His (Dooley's) dry wit is apparent. Coach Pearl made up for his lack of knowledge of the SEC with his enthusiasm. He just got the best the job that he ever had and he knew it.

Don't get that vibe from Martin. I don't think that he yet appreciates what UT BB means to a ton of folks going all the way back to Coach Mears and through the dry times.
We do not wish to return to the Houston/Peterson periods and he needs to understand this.

I wish him luck but he did nothing to instill much hope that he is the answer.

I think he's just nervous with the amount of press he's getting right now. Do you guys even realize how much of a podunk university, MSU is? It would be similar to MTSU, where even the kids that go there, are Vol fans. No one is an MSU fan other than graduates, and even then, they're probably second fiddle fans, and first fiddle to Missouri. He's going to be shocked a little at the support he's going to get from the fans here. Not familiar with Purdue athletics, but I doubt as an assistant he dealt with a lot of that.

He'll open up a bit I bet. And if he's not passionate on the podium, trust me, he's passionate on the court. He's always screaming, and getting angry. Its fun to watch. Saw him twice this year play the shox.

I hope you are right. We will see what his people and recruiting skills are like when we see who stays committed. GBO
