Situation in Venezuela

Venezuela failed because of a corrupt President who although elected ran the government like a dictatorship. He placed incompetent friends and supporters in every important position. The entire economy was propped up by high oil prices and they were a leading exporter. The price dropped and the country failed.

Denmark, Finland, Canada, The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand, and Belgium are Socialist Democracies and the people in every one of them enjoy a higher standard than we do here.

IMO the US capitalistic system isn't working nearly as well as the socialist systems in the countries listed above.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about. You apparently haven't been out of country since 1972.

No.

Many people claim Norwegians are more successful than Americans, and thus conclude their economic system is better, but research refuted that conclusion by pointing out Norwegians do even better in America than they do in Norway.

I had an Advanced Engineering Math TA from Norway. Even though English was like her 3rd language she was a great TA. We asked her how she had this great grasp of advanced math. She said it was because Nordic schoolbooks weren't full of fluff, just the facts.

I'll stick around a bit longer. Bernie's ideas are catching hold. There may be hope for us yet.

1. Why do you think the government should have more control?

2. What in your lifetime has the government done that would make you think more control is good?

3. Why do you think so many things should be free?

4. Why do you support higher taxes?

5. Why do you support an entitlement heavy system?

I am curious.

1) The government does a great job, much better than I can.

2) They gave me an EBT card and Obamaphone.

3) Cause I can't afford stuff the rich folks have.

4) I don't have to pay them.

5) Cause the deck is stacked against me.

Shorter growing seasons in the far north/higher latitudes over generations causes people to depend on a more communal way of living, and in turn, that is seared into the populace's DNA and character. Communism out of necessity.

Living in paradise where food is abundant and you can rely far less on your neighbors tends to make those people less able to work in a communal system.

There are probably (at least there should be) many pre planned military options already filed away requiring only specific case adjustments for every place around the world we may actually need to take military action.

Trump only gave an honest answer.

Correct. There are even plans to deal with Canada should they put up a fuss.

What's our interest in Venezuela?

I shouldn't chuckle, but it was a little funny.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/0...-now-worth-less-than-world-warcraft-gold.html

Inflation in Venezuela’s crisis-wracked economy has become so bad that the country’s official currency, the Bolívar, is now worth less than the fake gold used in Azeroth, the setting of the popular online role-playing game “World of Warcraft.”

Dolar Today, a website that tracks the black market rate of the Venezuelan currency, puts the exchange rate at about 10,987 Bolívars per dollar as of Friday morning. In comparison, the current gold price of a “World of Warcraft” token is about 7,288 gold pieces per dollar.

While in reality nobody actually trades in “World of Warcraft” gold, the comparison highlights the abysmal status of the Bolívar as the country’s socialist government struggles with a crumbling economy and a drastic rise in violent crime.

I figure we just toss a case of Molsen and a few hockey pucks out and Canada will be too distracted to see us coming.

Agreed. We should have learned our lesson by now about meddling in South America.

Just South America? Have you been paying attention over the last 40+ years? We've been in Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Grenada, The Middle East, Yugoslavia, Vietnam/SE Asia, Angola, East Africa...
