smokey grey jerseys for Vandy confirmed

This disappoints me to no end. The Greys were suppose to be ONCE a year.

And now we are making Vandy special.

Imagine the unthinkable. Vandy wins vs the Greys. What a disgrace this would be.

Now I guess the players decide on uni's. Let's throw tradition out the window for VANDY!!!

And this could now be the tradition: The last home game wear grey.

This would be against Vandy or Kentucky how special is that!!

Disgusting about how traditions mean nothing anymore.

Don't get me wrong I like the Grey, but it should be ONCE A YEAR and for a major game against a major team. Not VANDY!!!

Why? It doesn't hurt you. Let the players do what they want they are the ones playing!!

I really don't see the big deal, and honestly I see the opposite of what many are seeing. I see wearing the smokies as proof at how NOT important Vandy is.

To me wearing the orange jerseys/white pants combo should be reserved for the biggest rivals that we respect. I was ok with wearing them against UGA since it was the first time and I can see wearing them for big games, but to me rolling them out against Vandy doesn't mean we suddenly think Vandy is important, it's more I see it as they aren't really worthy of the orange and white.

I mean have you seen the crap Vandy has come out in in the last decade? Last year's black helmets/gold jerseys/black pants combo was awful. They've also worn all gold which was also hideous.

Again, I like the smokies, but I don't see them as some special, hallowed uniform.

Yeah that's it I see them doing more than you... maybe we should suit you up and let you play..

Lol. That's an interesting idea.

How about some understanding and appreciation for the guys that have put on the jerseys before them? Some understanding and appreciation for what the color means to the team, university, and the state? To me, the choice was made when they decided to play at the University of Tennessee.

You don't think that former players wouldn't have wanted to wear them if they had them?

Which former players and which colors? Should we just consider the ones who wore shiny orange or matte orange? Should we just consider the ones who wore black and orange every week? What about the ones who had two stripes on their pants? Or two stripes on their helmets? Patches on the shoulder? Crosses on the helmet? facemasks or no facemasks?

We could go on and on. There are former players who wore gray and orange back in the day--well they are all dead, but they did where them, so it is part of our tradition. We have a long tradition of changing uniforms. Heck we were one of the first to wear tear-away jerseys. This is just another in a long line of UT keeping up with and often being ahead of the times.

That's an interesting perspective. So change is our tradition? I'd say Oregon has that locked down pretty well. I'm not so sure that we should be trying to identify ourselves with "what everyone else is doing" and "keeping up with the times." I have a hard time understanding how that sets us apart.

its mostly the older crowd who doesnt like it. and they are the ones that shuld know smokey is an actual school color. people have beat this topic into the ground. Just get used to it. We still have our tradition while building some more. Its the seniors call. You all will be back next yr as fans. These seniors wont be back ever again as players.

I like the smokey gray uniforms, a lot. I hope they will mix in an alternate helmet. Just not against Vanderbilt!!.... save it for an important game, an important rival...Bama, Georgia, Florida.

That being said, I also understand that it's senior night, that the seniors voted for it, that Butch ok'd it. At this point really don't care.... just win the damn game.

You're crying because we're wearing gray uniforms. Are you a dude?

That whole post, and that's what you take away from it? It's a combination of everything that's built up to this game and the experience it's looking to be. Sorry for being passionate about this team and my school.

Who says they are supposed to be once a year? The fashion police? Welcome to 2013 my friend. Along with traditions not being as important to student athletes, gas isn't 89 cents a gallon anymore and kids don't play outside either. Times change, whether you like the changes or not, and you can either adjust and keep up or get left in the dust. You want to attract premier athletes you have to go with the trend and that right now is alternate uniforms. Butch gets it.....do you?

Sorry I used to be a "give it time" guy, but my thoughts have changed. I see the Freezes and Malzahns of the world and see you can do more with less. This team has gone backwards. The false starts, busted coverages, special teams disasters are things you should improve upon over the course of a year. Worthy of criticism for sure....

Well, you need to find a new team because it's going to take CBJ a couple more years to get this mess fixed that he inherited. We really don't need "fans" like you anyway. Like someone else said, you are comparing apples to oranges with your post.

I'm the opposite, I think the big games should be orange and white. At the least I think the Alabama game should always be. Georgia and Florida are still both relatively new annual rivals so I don't mind as much wearing new stuff, but if any game demands a traditional approach, it's Alabama.

Absolutely.

Basilio says they have metallic helmets sitting in storage. Anyone know if that is true?

I have long suspected new helmets but never heard they had them as a fact

Nothing to do with Vandy. A lot to do with these Seniors, with everything they've been through, still stick with the program, shed blood, sweat and tears for the Big Orange, and they want this for their last home game at Tennessee, which just happens to be Vandy.

Any more description than that? I've seen a lot of metallic helmets this year. Some sucked and some were cool. The really shiny ones that looked chromed could be distracting to watch -- neat to see but after a while they got a little distracting.

I liked the grey carbon fiber helmet designs myself, would definitely be cool with that.

Good points. Just seems they view the gray unis as special/unique and only to be pulled out for special occasions. So that's where I'm coming from. There's absolutely nothing special about playing Vandy, especially in comparison to playing Bama or one of our true rivalry games. Regarding Bama, I'd personally prefer wearing our Orange jerseys and them wear their crimson ones.
