So do we drop anybody to make room

I guess I don't see how it's any different. Most of the folks saying they think it's wrong to name names, have no issue at all talking down on recruits and or kids considering UT as their future school. A lot of them even have offers and fans on this very board will talk about them like they are dirt if they don't have enough *'s by their name. Not sure why it matters if it's a recruit or a commitment. You will also note that a lot of the same ones saying they won't name names, have no issue at all 2 years from now naming the ones they would like to see cut from the roster to make room for the new names UT might be able to get.

Disagree on the LS. Very important, if you dont know your LS name thats good! Because he is doing his job. Its not just a position you "stick" someone in. Blue shirt or greyshirt, maybe, but you want a good one!!

Butch tried the preferred walk-on LS route last year...I'm sure at the end of game handshake, Bob Stoops thanked him for Horkey. :yess:

I think Lovingood is on scholarship. Gives him a year to get up to speed and ready to take over when he's called upon. CBJ won't risk losing another LS he wanted.

haveing a bad hair day? mommy haveing that time of month?who ppped on your wheaties??:thud:

You caught me and really burned me, you are so good. The purpose of the Recruiting Forum: Football Talk thread is to keep the threads at a minimum in the Recruiting forum unlike the Football Forum. If you don't like it please stay over there and clutter it up. This is the last I will post in this thread about this.

Also, when you begin a sentence, you capitalize the first letter and when you see a red squiggly line under a word you have typed that means it is misspelled ("haveing is actually spelled having). If you right click on the word it will give you options for the correct spelling of the word you are trying to spell. :good!:

Could he not be a preferred walkon and get on scholarship in the fall? Is the only problem there just that the scholarship isn't guaranteed?

Yup. If a kid has other options, IMO taking any kind of walk-on, blue shirt, or gray shirt offer is risky. If the kid is smart he takes the sure thing. I'd bet CBJ will not risk losing another LS by trying to force them into a "wait and see" spot closer to NSD. At least I hope he doesn't.

Im sure its a risk reward situation.

If the kid doesn't have any other options, maybe CBJ can force him into it. If he does have options, I'd expect him to go that route vs hoping a scholarship comes through for him at UT sometime in the future.

And with our kicking situation since medley has locked up kicking duties why can't we move bullock to punter.

Just because your a kicker or a punt it does not mean it translates to the other, totally different technique and twitch.

i hate that the staff will cut some recruits loose to look around, but if we can get better players in return i'm all for it.

Better to assess and reassess early than to get a bad fit. That works out badly for the program and the kid. As long as the program cuts ties early I see no issue with it even though I'm sure some kids get their feelings hurt at times.

Of course we drop players for the ones that are higher on the coaches board. The thing is we don't know who is higher than who. There is nothing wrong with that either. It's life. I'd let someone go if I knew I had someone that was going to make my company better too. Kids have a choice to have a change of heart. So do the coaches.

We've always gotten along, so show me where I cut down current players.

I'm not saying everyone does it. A lot of the folks who use the "we should not name names", actually do. Just look at about every 2-3* recruit/commitment that should be "dropped" to make room for a higher rated player.

Either way it turns out. I'm guessing one or two that doesn't get into this class. Those of you thinking you hope they don't. We regret that they wear a different colored jersey someday. I say this because I think this staff is darn good at evaluating talent.

I know one that they evaluated poorly. This player has never even seen the field.

With the wide receiver from Georgia taking a visit to USC, I would think that he may drop his commitment to us eventually and sign elsewhere.

Here is my question and I might get roasted for this but if we have to drop someone to make room who is it. I'll be honest I hate offering a scholarship to a long snapper. Can't we find someone on the team to just focus on that. And with our kicking situation since medley has locked up kicking duties why can't we move bullock to punter. I know they are a lot different but he could do it. So who else would we drop if we have to.

I cannot say that we will drop anyone, bt i can say that while our number is 24 for 2015, we can get more than that in through the blueshirt rule. I will not name any specific recruits, but i can identify at least 3 that will likely not be officially recruited (No coach visit in home, no official visit and does not sign a letter of intent on signing day). In fact we have someone that is starting as a freshman this year that was a blueshirt. As long as they maintain those rules, these players will enter as regular students and will be awarded a scholarship, similar to a walkon in the summer of 2015.

The downside is that they will go on scholarship at some point so this takes numbers from the next class. Since we have no room for a backcount, any other changes to our commit list will be because the player did not meet academic responsibilities as laid out by the staff, did not meet the persoanl conduct standards we set for them or simply decommit and sign elsewhere.

Also, do not forget that as we sit right now, we have 25 commits. To get all 25 enrolled by August of 2015, we will have to see attrition of 6 players from this years roster that would have had eligibility for the 2015 season. That is the only way we stay under the 85 max.
