So do we drop anybody to make room

Without naming names, I think everyone has to agree not everyone currently committed is going to make it in. Maybe they'll de-commit or maybe they won't make the grades, but some of the players we've gotten excited about may not be Vols. Kinda sucks. And yeah, I get the whole "that's recruiting" thing, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it play out to this extent. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to know who those players are.

I just look at it as why try and find "spots"? Until we actually hear a kid has grade concerns or a kid is actually taking visits and not just talking about it, why look at it as "we will have 5-6 more spots as we will lose some". Why? Why can't the class sign as it is IF the kids have the grades in order and hold true to their being a Vol?

I myself would not have an issue at all if the kids committed today signed with our 2015 class. Only question as of now for me is with 25 onboard, can they take 25, or is it actually 24(as mentioned many times) and there is 1 commitment who in not in play right now, we just don't know about it yet?

With the wide receiver from Georgia taking a visit to USC, I would think that he may drop his commitment to us eventually and sign elsewhere.

Better remember the name Preston Williams...you're going to be hearing it a lot the next 4 years.

We are going to speculate on the whole numbers thing because that is just how we are. A moment of zen for me is to realize that I don't have to worry about it. It always sucks to loose players we like but Heii I like everyone we have committed and would be happy with signing who we have now.

Here is my question and I might get roasted for this but if we have to drop someone to make room who is it. I'll be honest I hate offering a scholarship to a long snapper. Can't we find someone on the team to just focus on that. And with our kicking situation since medley has locked up kicking duties why can't we move bullock to punter. I know they are a lot different but he could do it. So who else would we drop if we have to.

It is still a long way to NSD. And nearly all of the members of the class are still playing HS or JUCO ball. Injuries, and recruitment by other teams has affected recruiting classes in the past, and more than likely will do the same this year.

Last season, we overloaded with some creative math I am yet to find a calculator that explains it. I can answer your last question. We don't drop any of them. We leave those decisions to the coaches. Go ask them. And good luck getting an answer to that.

I just hope when the signatures are collected on NSD, we have 4 or 5 OL players. IMHO, that is probably the greatest area of need this time around.

Yeah, as long as we keep Kahlil and Shy and the other OL and DL commits, and one of Dormady/Jennings, I'm cool with whatever else happens. I want Preston of course, but I don't think it would hurt us as badly to lose him as it would a lineman. We need those in the worst way.

I wouldn't have before the Florida game, but I now disagree with this. I thought our receiving group was the most talented on the team but none of them are really tearing it up this season and especially the last game. We need any receivers where the QB can chunk it up and the receiver will go and make a play. North has shown flashes of this but doesn't do it consistently.

Preston appears to have this ability thus his 5* ranking and we need him in a very bad way to get over the hump with the Georgias and Floridas of the world. Defenses have become so disruptive that very often now it comes down to a special talent on offense "making a play". UT needs more of those special talents.

I'm not sure if you can put this on the receivers, or the fact that UTs' playcalling hasn't been aggressive where they really can go do this.

I mean, without an offensive line to give you a ton of time to get downfield, we've been forced to either throw quick screen passes, or occasionally launch a deep ball.

But I've yet to see many slants across the middle, or getting our WR's into open space, or even many plays that utilize our height advantage.

Just not sure its' our WR. Sure you can blame them for some drops, absolutely, they haven't played perfect.

But we're not exactly going balls deep on anyone either.

I agree. Without any time for pass plays to develop, the WRs will look bad. The whole passing game will look bad. 80% of the issues with this team are currently tied to the OL IMO. I don't think it can do anything but get better as the young guys get more reps.

Yeah, I was looking at the roster last night...next year looks a little better, as in, at least we'll have some continuity:

Marcus Jackson - RS SR
Crowder - RS SR
Kerbyson - RS SR
Blair - RS JR
Weisman - JR
Kendrick - RS SO
Sanders - RS SO (Coaches said he's improved this week, btw. I know there was concern about him in his thread)
Robertson - SO
Thomas - SO
Raulerson - RS FR

Boulware - FR
Jones - FR
Stewart - FR
Lovingood - FR
Hall - FR

So, that gives you:
FR - 5 (maybe more, depends)
RS FR - 1
SO - 2
RS SO - 2
JR - 1
RS JR - 1
RS SR - 3

If you look at it that way....it almost makes sense redshirting Blair.

Otherwise, we would be top heavy on SRs and RS SR, and be right back where we were the next year. We'd have 1 SR, 2 RS JR, 2 JR as our most experienced. At least this spreads it out a little bit. Might be planned.

Leb, you know we have to get in on these guys early based on junior film, evaluations, etc. Getting the offer out there first matters to some of these kids. That doesn't mean you're locked into excepting the offer if you're evaluation changes during the course of their senior season.

Depends on the number of EEs we can get.

Of course. That would explain why UT "offers" more kids than any other school in the country. I have been quick to learn that a UT "offer" does not mean a whole lot. If the coaches are not actively visiting/spending time/speaking with the player he is probably not a priority at all. I have no issue at all with early offers. It does at least open the door.

Where are you coming up with the "offers" numbers? All SEC schools do this, as well as many others. Did you really count the offers, or are you exaggerating? Serious question.

No I don't. Although it is touched on many times throughout the recruiting year how many "offers" each school has extended. UT is way out in front of the rest of the SEC.
