I also think wins and losses matter in the first year of Butch Jones. One, recruiting is helped by wins and the belief we can win more and more going forward. Also, there can be losses that don't look so bad under certain circumstances. Now, I want to win them all but in reality that is not going to happen. So, let's say we lose to Bama, Oregon, and Fla. on the road. Blowouts are bad losses but close losses can be used to show recruits we are closing the gap. Let the coach have the time to get it built back up before we base everything on the win loss record. Go Big Orange....

I'm not saying dont give em time...but in college football, esp Tennessee, every single game counts.

Wins always matter.

Wish our basketVols could've gotten one more this year.

This. It Butch puts a good product on the field where we win every game we should, one or two we shoudn't, and no blow out losses should get the recruits thinking more highly of UT, and that gives us an edge. Remember that none of our commits to this point has signed anything though they all sound very firm. I think a minimum of 7 regular season wins and a bowl win is absolutely necessary. 8 wins and a bowl win is icing on the cake. It will be difficult with our schedule, but that should be the goal.

IMO 6 regular season Ws plus a bowl win is acceptable

No, I don't think they have to win 7 games. When I look at the schedule I can see 7 wins but I don't think that's as important in year 1. I want to see a well coached, well schemed, hard nosed, 100% effort team.

I want to see a team that's significantly better at the end of the season than they were at the beginning. I want to see a team that's competitive in every game they play and one that doesn't fold in the 4th qtr.

I want to see a head coach that manages the game wisely, that takes calculated risks and has a little passion on the sidelines. I'd like to see a coach who can make good adjustments in the second half when the original game plan wasn't getting it done in the first.

I don't put a number of what I think would be a successful season. Of course the more wins the better. But we will be able to evaluate this new coach irrespective of his record.

Obviously, none of what I've written is rocket science, far from it. It's just one fan's opinion. I won't be a happy fan if he wins 5 games, but I'll live with the poor record, the first year, if I see all the things from above manifest itself in our team.

The last post I saw from him got flamed from about a dozen other guys in here calling him out. Wasn't trying to out-fan him, just trying to call him out a bit and, I ain't gonna lie, insult him.

Not familiar with the guy. I haven't posted on the ff for a long while...mainly cause of all the bickering. If he's an outright troll, then I guess you're right.
