So, how you all going to spin this one

No matter which way you look at it we were fortunate Vandy missed some free throws down the stretch. If they made them we're talking a loss with the exact same performance by Tennessee. And I doubt you'd be pleased with our performance then.

1. Vandy was 14-19 from the stripe, for 74%. Tennessee was 14-21, for 67%. Vandy lost by 9. And you think it was free-throws?

2. It was objectively a good performance. We've been missing layups like crazy...tonight BW was 3-3 and Pearl was 3-3. Melvin has been flat-out absent....tonight he looked the best he's looked since Pitt/Nova. Jenkins is the probably POY...Scotty took over down the stretch, and we held Jenkins to some 4-13 and 5 turnovers.

That's objective. "But the fans were mad in the first half" is not. "but they might have hit more free-throws in a parallel universe" is also not.

Now I know you didn't watch the game. Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows that in the final seconds of a close game the losing team fouls a lot. We hit free throws down the stretch and expanded the lead only because they were fouling us. Why were they fouling us? They missed some critical free throws late. Anyone who actually saw the game will tell you the same thing.

Regardless, everyone is happy with the outcome. But the performance, absent the last bit of the half, was not where we want to be. We play like that against a team that knows how to close games and we will be on the bus with a loss come March.

We set very few high screens. We made a concerted effort toward the rack, but let's not pretend that was some genius coaching move. It was obvious and our only prayer to score.

when we pounded pitt and nova... hopson, tatum, goins, and harris relentless attacked the rim. there was no stalling, no slowing it down, no pitty patter on offense... and i don't recall much looptee loop toss it back and forth at the top of the key either. it was attack mode from tip-off. we are damn hard to hang with when our athletes attack the rim. we are reduced to some ivy league team when we TRY to slow it down... and we end up getting trash for shot selection.

we started attacking when the starters came back in around the 12 min mark and scored 27 points in 12 minutes... the same amount the whole first half.

we have slashers who need to attack for 40 minutes. standing around passively gets you beat by charlotte. attacking the rim and playing D... this team can beat anyone. its a mystery to me why they have such a mediocre record.

They didn't start that until less than 1 minute was remaining.

You say they didn't hit FT's, but they hit as many as we did, and hit at 74% to our 67%.

Oh well..agree to disagree I guess. We played a good game. Most energy and best defense in a while. Hopson took over at the end, and we guarded Jenkins very well.

We still aren't very good at offense outside of Hopson, but Goins showed flashes.

Our offensive structure still sucks. But, we showed today what it takes to overcome it. That's top-flight defense and a great plan to go along with great rebounding.

We'll go as far as our defense will take us. I just wish someone other than Hopson could hit 3 pointers.

Doesn't change the fact that his offense didn't perform, again. The defense and banging out boards won last night.

Pearl never has been known as a great tactician.

I agree on the flex issues, but the way they are running it is usually to knock off some clock and get a good shot. Problem is there isn't a great pg to know what to do and weezy isn't there in the post to hit with a pass with 10 seconds left. Hopson can't run the ball screen on the wing, but looked comfortable near the key and goins did too. I thought the D was ridiculous and showed Vandy's lack of pg too. Tinsley is decent, but really a 2.
