hey listen up vol fans.i am glad like every body else about coach fulmer, but lets dont forget about all the great things he done for tennessee and also he was one of the best coaches to ever coach there.so lets all say a little something good about coach fulmer and coach if you read this i want to say thank you for everything and you will go down in my book as on of the best coaches in ut history and i wish you well:3083yourock:and this is for you:fireworks::fireworks::fireworks:
no one has forgotten. The accomplishments from 10 years ago now, and longer, continue to be tossed about here as justification for this action taking so long.

Everyone is well aware.

Hypothetical situation here.

Say Lane Kiffen gets an offer. He wants to bring his dad, Monte Kiffen, the Tampa Bay DC. Do you say no, Chavis has to stay?

If Kiffen wants to control the offense, do you tell him he has to keep Clawson?

Hm, I'm not really sure. May just make them Co Coordinators or something?

And I wouldn't make him keep either of them, I just really think we should. If Chavis leaves, that would probably be a pretty huge mistake on part of the new coach.

But it's all really just speculation now. I wouldn't even mind keeping Drayton, because he knows about Florida, plus we'd keep Jarvis Giles.

Then again, this is why I'm not the AD or anything.

I think the new coach should get the right to make that decision. If they want to retain a guy or replace him, it should be up to the new coach.

Maybe the new coach (whoever it may be) will attract new recruits if they have enough time to make it happen. So we might lose some guys but maybe we gain a few recruits.

That's the thing though, we're firing him at the end of the year, and can't even speak to any coaches except Bill Cowher/Lane Kiffin until then.

So the new coach really won't have time to work his magic I don't think.

I would take Monte Kiffen over 99.9% of the defensive coordinators in football, from peewee to the NFL.

Recruits should not dictate which coaches stay or go.

i really dont think we lose too many. i could see toney williams go to lsu, schoefield maybe goes to usc. thigpen and hunter maybe will decomit, and we probably do lose either oku or giles. stokes appears to be pretty solid to us but well have to wait until feb. to really know. i was kind of hoping that it wouldnt be announced until after signing day just to keep this class. we will be back and we will have a good class still

Not lose too many you say... and then you just named us losing about 1/4 of our class...was that intended to be a joke?! Hopefully, Hammy announced now so that we can get in on the best coach available. If we get Cowher, Gruden, Davis, or Kiffin we probably don't lose much if any. Even somebody like Peterson, Leach, etc. doesn't have the weight yet to keep all of these guys. Either way, good timing on the move so that we don't miss out on available coaches. Go Vols!

the Boyd quote: "With rumors swirling that Coach Phil Fulmer's job may be in jeopardy, how is Boyd affected? "No matter what happens, I am going to stick with them. We'll see about the coaching changes, but I'm still going to be a Volunteer."

Hope he sticks to his word...

Not exactly. I can't justify keeping many of them, but we almost absolutely have to keep Chavis. He's one of the better DC's in the country, along with being one of the top LB coaches.

Also, Maybe we could give Clawson another year. He doesn't have the personnel he needs right now, only has 50% of his playbook in, and is a hell of a recruiter.

we must absolutely NOT keep Chavis. I hope whoever we bring is Defensive minded.

His comments at least point to his understanding of the QB situation at Tennessee. You have to figure he's basing his decision on the availability of playing time as a freshman in the SEC. Let's hope that continues to be the deciding factor for him.

Leach is a RB's worst nightmare.

I don't want to see his gimmick pass happy offense on display at Neyland.

He beat down #1 Texas Saturday with his offense. I would be happy to see that at Tennessee. Bring on Leach. Mad Scientist 09.

Boyd will remain a Vol, from official source, linked in another thread.

Posted this in the recruiting forum...But Giles says he will look around because he is a mid-term guy and that time isn't on his side. Said if new coach keeps Drayton he'll stay. Also said if they don't hire someone quick, he will probably switch.

All depends on hire. Look at Bama last year. Their recruiting class ended up being alot better after Saban was hired with only a couple of months left before signing day.
