Here is how I really see it. White's let's not let the great be the enemy of the good (a misquote by the way) was clearly a preemptive move to address any criticism for settling pretty quickly on a novice D1 coach. I understand wanting to address "the elephant in the room" but if I had been his PR advisor, I would have doubled down are being the best young coach in the country and we are lucky to have before any one else. But, his response seemed to signal that he is well aware (and maybe little nervous about making the biggest of big gambles ever.
If Danny White is half as smart as his fanboys say, he must have a plan B in place just in case. It might look like thisL
Ringtone: Hi Candace, Danny White, just wanted to double check that you are definitely retiring after this season. Okay, great, well have a wonderful final sea...what, uh yeah, I made need you to save my a$$. Uh, uh, you don't get out of bed for less than 2.5 million plus incentives. Okay, I can make that work and what, I have to refer to you as "My Queen" at all times, well sure, coach is kind of cliche anyway. Okay, Candace, I mean my Queen, I will keep you posted"
