Fla State will get beat bad in the playoffs, really bad in my opinionI see the seeding going like this,
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas/Georgia/Alabama
4. Florida State
I’m aware I may catch grief over Fla St due to QB injuries, but how do you leave an undefeated P5 out over 1 loss P5? The arguments can be made in all directions. Glad it’s not up to me to decide. This scenario further proves the need for the expanded playoff.
Well the committee is supposed to pick the 4 best teams, not necessarily the best won loss record.Let’s pretend that Tennessee beat Gamecocks in 2022 on that garbage field. Then, Hooker got hurt against Vanderbilt and Milton stepped in and eeked us out a W in the game. Would we be ok with being left out of the CFP because of an injury to our QB? The whole team won every game except UGA , but we lost HH5. Is it ok to be left out of the picture because our QB is hurt? FSU should be in.
But should it be based on one game or the season? You have those saying FSU because they had a great year. If that's the case and we look at the total season, then Ala is the only team with THREE wins against Top 15 teams (including the current #1). FSU, Mich, and Ga each beat TWO. Wash beat ONE (twice) and TX only beat ONE.You MUST base it on what they did on the field and not how you feel. Why even play the games if they dont matter? Much is being made of FSU beating UL with an anemic offense. That is true, but they did beat them by 10 using their 3rd team QB. That is considerably more impressive than the embarrassing performance Bama had just the week prior against a bottom feeding SEC team.
FSU will have their 2nd team QB in the playoffs.
Here's how I would rank them:
Michigan, Washington, FSU and Texas.
You shouldn't put Bama over Texas because they lost at home to them. Plus, when the final rankings are released, Texas will have the best win of any of the top teams (assuming Bama is ranked ahead of UGA).
Actually it would follow the CFP's own precident from last year. Alabama was ranked over Tennessee despite Tennessee beating Bama and LSU the other team to beat Bama because Hendon Hooker was out.But then you also have people making the argument that it would be a travesty to leave out an undefeated power 5 conference champion, which has never happened before.
Chris Weinke's injury didn't keep the Criminoles out of the '98 gameI see the seeding going like this,
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas/Georgia/Alabama
4. Florida State

2001 Tennessee had a loss before the SEC title game, at home versus Georgia.Exactly…Most believe we were good enough to win the National Championship in 2001 and then lost in the SEC title game. We didn’t deserve a “2nd chance” just because we had been good enough to win the previous games.
Michigan's entire schedule was all cupcake games including the Big10 championship.Which I mean, makes sense. But you don't get any more credit for losing those games than Georgia did for winning the cupcake games. What would have been ideal was for Bama to win that game, but they didn't.
I admire teams like Bama or FSU who scheduled OOC opponents who were highly ranked and a challenge. I think that should hold weight, and if FSU wasn't undefeated, I'd say Bama should be in. But they aren't.
But had Georgia actually scheduled someone they wouldn't have fallen so far when they did suffer a loss. At no point did Georgia prove they were the number 1 team in the country.
who gets left out may affect those teams future out of conference scheduling....
Alabama AD Greg Byrne sends message to College Football Playoff committee on nonconference scheduling
Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne had an interesting take on how the nonconference schedule affects its College Football Playoff chances.www.on3.com
If both teams win, there’s a possibility that Alabama could still end up getting left out despite its SEC title victory. Byrne explained Saturday that could deter the Crimson Tide from scheduling nonconference Power 5 opponents in the future.
“If we would have played a Group of Five game instead it Texas, there’d be no debate right now,” Bryne said according to Nick Kelly of the Tuscaloosa News."
