So who do you hire?

I’ve been hoping for it for so long now that If it does turn out to be true, the moment I see an official announcement will become for me one of those “Where were you when...”-type moments that get etched into people’s minds forever. :p

Oh please oh please oh PLEASE let next year’s team get the jolt of confidence that having a strong, competent leader will give them!!!!!!

Lol. There are a lot of scared fans and athletic directors at top schools right now and there should be. It’s easy to say that a coach “won’t leave”, “is happy”, etc but trust and believe, there are some coaches at some big programs who are definitely keeping an eye on this situation. Money talks and to many of the coaches at these programs, Tennessee has always been a dream job. Any time a school can not sniff a final four in a decade and still haul in the number 1 recruiting class??? That says a lot about the NAME and not necessarily the recruiters. As I said WEEKS ago, I’ve heard they are going to break open the bank for a hire and that was over a month ago before shyt got real. The list of potential names I received in confidence is QUITE a list.

Many of the top coaches would at least LISTEN, if nothing more than to get their current schools to give them raises and all UT needs is a chance to pitch what they are offering. Somebody is going to accept the challenge. Hell, its an easy job to coach if you can actually coach...no real pressure to win (from the AD) , great fan base, etc. Look how long they allowed Holly to screw up? Lol. Hopefully those current schools have their checkbooks ready or there are going to be some REAL sad fans. Lololol. Holly’s firing could really shift women’s college basketball in a major way because if a coach of a top program is hired, then that program will have to try to throw money at another top coach to keep their program stable and so on and so forth...a real domino effect. IT could really be a mess, but good for us Lady Vol fans!

Doesn’t matter if an AD knows that a coach won’t leave the program. If they tease another job, then the AD gives them a raise
EXAMPLE: Oklahoma State

Doesn’t matter. That’s why you have multiple choices. Someone will bite. I guarantee it. Rumor has it there are several with SERIOUS interest.

I’m not sure how I missed this terrific post earlier, but glad I finally saw it. I definitely agree with you, and it sure is exciting to think about.

Uh oh, Mo St leads Drake by 20 points after 3 quarters. Drake will be in the tournament even if they lose so Mo St will knock an At-Large team out if they beat Drake.

Someone posted on another thread here on Volnation that rumors were Holly turned in her resignation last Monday. Have any of you heard about this elsewhere?

If Holly is planning to resign, she hasn't informed UT. I don't think she'd make a decision like that before the end of the season, anyway.

Do you know for a fact she hasn't? Not being snaky with my question at all, its just you sound so sure as if you are in Holly's immediate circle.

I don't know what Holly's plans are or what she will do. She hasn't officially tendered her resignation to UT, because that starts a process that hasn't been started.

He’d be my top choice, for sure. I fully believe that he is capable of leading next year’s Lady Vols — as long as noone transfers this year — to near the top of the SEC, to at at least the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament, and to the Final Four in his second season.

And I imagine he’d actually love the chance to coach at Tennessee and, particularly, this underdeveloped group of Lady Vols, if it weren’t getting so close to Blair’s retirement.

Vic ain’t going nowhere! Especially Tennessee with the mess that’s there now. He has one of the premier programs in the country that’s just getting better. Did y’all read where they just got their first ever McDonalds All American? Amazing, don’t you think. No highly rated players and finished second two years in a row! Starkville is a perfect fit for Vic. Long live the King!!

I do not understand why all of the talking heads on this forum are so quick to say Vic Schaefer would never leave his established program at Miss. St. for the Lady Vols. He is currently in his first Head Coaching position and has only been there the same amount of time that Holly has been the HC here. I doubt that he ever looked at Miss. St. as his dream job. Texas A&M is his alma mater and it doesn't appear ready to make any changes with Blair there. Schaefer appears to me to be a high character individual that can recruit and coach the game, quite well. I just don't believe that he is so rooted there to not pass up the opportunity here at UT if it were offered to him. I do think that he would look at the Lady Vols as a dream job. Give the man a call.

Vic isn’t leaving Ms. State to go anywhere. He has created something special in Starkville that is rarely seen anywhere. He’s getting top rated high school players as well as fabulous transfer players. Besides, he’s too old to be rebuilding a failing Tennessee program. Give the job to one of the great up and coming female coaches available. The list is almost endless!!

Who is your list of up and coming female coaches? Let see who you got to coach a program like ours?

We will see about the depleted roster, but agree that it should not be hard to find a coach that is much better than what we have. Hopefully if and when this happens, Fulmer and maybe Barnes will meet with the ladies and encourage them to weigh the options and meet with the new coach before deciding to transfer.

Of course, this discussion could be a mute point if for some reason, Holly is retained another year, in which case the rebuilding job gets harder.

That "some reason" is being formulated as we speak. Holly will be back next year. Book it. No meeting with Fulmer, no meeting with Barnes, no if, no when, no weighing, but transfers? Probably.

If she's back I hope TBA is empty for all LadyVols home games. That will force Phil Fulmer to take action and hire a new women's basketball head coach. If the team has a lot of transfers and they have a losing season in 2019-2020 that would force Phil Fulmer to take action also.

Holly will be the Coach! Chances are no player will transfer unless one of these kids feel their equal playing time will be deminished by the other kids coming in!

Anything that gets Holly Warlick canned is okay with me even if that means a losing season in 2019-2020

With a good hire we shouldn't have to sink to far in the W-L column in year one if at all. Supposedly these are top ranked players, so a good coach should improve year 1 and year 2 should be even better if recruiting stays up.

I was saying that assuming Holly will be back for the 2019-2020 season
