Socialism vs Capitalism

Education's not a means of production though, except as a stretch private schools, so public education's not socialist.
Education is a product/service with market value even though Americans have been convinced that it’s supposed to be a “free” service. It’s textbook socialism and we know this because we can deduce that absent ”free” education, some (not all) parents would purchase education for their children.

Whoever wrote that 'textbook' is full of it.

There have been several articles posted over the years about all the migrants raping Swedish girls (among other countries) in the Migrants/Europe thread. I think the "honeymoon" period has longsince worn off in most of those nations. The formerly homogeneous populations are quite pissed in many cases...but unlike here in the US they dont have the 1A or 2A so they cannot say or do much about it. Most of those countries have "no go zones" taken over by migrants where even ambulances will not enter those neighborhoods until a police escort shows up because they have been attacked so many times. So crazy.

The EU just absolutely wrecked Western Europe. It is mind blowing. Might go down as 1 of the worst ideas in history. The Leftist Globalists figured out the fastest way to destroy Europe and the politicians shoved the union right down the people's throats. Seems the Europe you saw in 2008 no longer exists
I know, I’m glad I did most of my traveling when I did, don’t really want to do it now (Europe)..our travels all domestic now, and if we are feeling really froggy.. the Caribbean

Not so fast on the Obamacare and school system pronouncements.

Doesn’t Obamacare have a government requirement to have health insurance or pay a tax. Legally speaking, either participate or break the law, right?

WRT school systems, a certain level of education is required which might be considered socialist if really stretching things, but government schooling is not required per se. One may choose to send their children to private or home school, but until the government forces public school attendance or face legal consequences, it is still a (rough) free market system.
IDK what points you're trying to make. Participation requirements don't determine if it's socialist or not. Government provides most k-12 education. In other words, it controls the means of production. Ipso facto, socialism. Does not matter if students can opt out.

I have one more year of international flying. Europe is on my avoid list. I don't know why anyone would ever want to go to Paris anymore. It is a third world **** hole now. And the other once great cities of Europe are rapidly catching up.

Lol. Do you know what would happen if an actual third world city tried to host the Olympics?

I know you like to say crazy things to get a rise out of people but I don't think you understand how dopey this stuff makes you look to anybody with a little sense. Come on with this ****, bro. It's like you think your audience is as naive as your grandchildren or something.

Also, third world cities are cool to visit. Not everybody has such elitist taste as you, I suppose.

LOL. Yeah OK. I've watched the decline of those once great cities over the last 20 years. I liked Paris when it wasn't a graffiti ridden dump.

And all inclusive resorts in Jamaica don't count as visiting the third world. You'll have to do better.

Regarding education, no it does not control the means of production. It exerts tremendous influence, but does not control it. Otherwise there are no home and private schooled children.

IDK if you read all of OP, but Ispecifically said it is not direct control.

You're talking semantics, all of which I covered in OP. If you want to limit the label to only instances where there is total control over an entire industry, then we're going to have to accept that socialism is actually really rare. That's fine, but that's a different conversation.

FWIW, if we're labeling industries socialist or capitalist, I think you'd be taking crazy pills to say k-12 education falls under capitalism.

I disagree. I fervently enjoyed my time in the likes of Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon.

Wasn't crazy about London, but that was moreso how punchable all the locals were in the night life.

You're all over the place with claiming the education system is socialist when it is demonstrably not, although I agree there are forces that really want a socialist education system. Federally dominated education is bad enough; I can only imagine the disaster if the Feds had complete control.

I'm going to London in October. I have tickets to see David Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall. Not that excited about the city though.

Two bars I enjoyed:

Thin White Duke
Basement Sate

Few other places I loved but likely aren't your vibe:

Slim Jim's Liquor Store; punk rock bar with loud live music and really rustic throwback decor.
Venn Street Records; record store/live music venue and good beer and a modest little kitchen.
World's End; old punk pub. Probably my favorite spot.

The Missus is going with me so yeah I am sure she wouldn't want to try those. ;) We might go up early enough to go up to Liverpool and do the Beatles thing. I've done that before and it is pretty cool, but it is quite a ways from London. Thanks for the tips though.. I'll check one of 'em out anyway.

I ditched London when I was on the ER after about three trips over there. Stuck to Brussels, Dublin, Venice, Düsseldorf mostly. Wife and I are going back to Italy for two weeks end of September. At least Italy has had enough of migrants just showing up and doing something about it. Next trip is either Spain or a coastline cruise around Sicily, Croatia and Greece. Going to Scotland on a golf trip with a bunch of guys next year. London and Paris, just not interested anymore.

We're it not for the concert, I'm not interested either. CDG is on my avoid list every month. Blech. 🤢

you do not have to buy a car therefore do not have to pay gas taxes, license fees, etc. You chose to buy a car therefore chose to pay those taxes and fees whereby you have roads to drive your car on.

Therefore the gov't is "seizing" money from those that buy cars to build roads whereby ALL, not some, who pay those taxes benefit.

Seizing money from me to pay your SS check financially benefits YOU and financially hurts me...ALL do not benefit here.
Just keep paying those SS taxes. I'm getting ready to retire.
