Solid Recruiting Class

Even worse on On3. If you look at the average player rating it is actually 89.88 and 16th nationally and 7th in the SEC.

I'm not arguing that we should be concerned about it. But according to the recruiting sites... this is a pretty average class.

You are correct, I read their rankings wrong. I saw the 92.21 and thought that was the player average. Their numbers are lower as far as points for each team and I didn't realize that. I completely read it wrong.

As far as on 3, that average is still the consensus and they still have Larry Johnson as 0 but a 4* on just their rankings. That will go up when they do finally include him in the player consensus and get us above 90.00. Based off on3 when you click the average player ranking we are 15th in the nation and 6th in the SEC. When Johnsons average is factored in we will move up a spot or two.

Lastly, 17 of our 25 commits are either a 4* or 5* on atleast one of the recruiting sites. I mean that's 68% of our class. And 5 of the 3* guys that are 3's everywhere are 5.7's on Rivals, which means they are 0.1 from being a 4*. So really 22 of our 25 are atleast very high 3's, like as high as you can get without being a 4, plus the 4's and 5's we also have. Spillman is one of the 3 that isn’t along with Duncan and Bussell. To me this is much better than just good and that doesn't include transfers we will add. We've already gotten a 4* TE.

What I apparently totally botched is to say that I think this very well could be a foundational class for the Vols similar to some of the ones that got Dabo to the top... that the recruiting sites weren't in love with.

I watched Telander's championship game. I can imagine him getting into the S&C program, developing, and becoming a really, really good SEC LB. The recruiting sites don't think much of him apparently even as productive as he's been in some of the best HSFB competition in the country.

There are some here that are working double time trying to rationalize the rankings. That's not me. My whole point was that the recruiting sites think this is a relatively average class... not me.

Wish I could like this one twice

As I recall, those same people thought we would be an average team this year. Guess what; we are the # 6 team in the Nation. This class is filled with talent and I love it.

Great class the best one since Butch was here. Unfortunately our main conference rivals are still ahead of us. Def bringing in better defensive talent and getting Nico was the greatest thing about this class. It just sucks when your ranked 8th in the country in recruiting but that’s still not quite good enough in the SEC

It's plenty good in the SEC. Long as we can stay in the top 12 we will be fine. Especially with how the transfer portal is now working. This class is better than any Butch had. A lot of Butch's higher ranked classes we signed 29-33 players. You can't do that anymore.

i think the root of this topic is that there are so many recruiting rankings that grade different ways that if you are looking to call this a great class, you can probably find a ranking you can use to prove your point, and if you are trying to prove this class is below what you would expect, you can probably find a ranking that shows that as well

No.
The root of the argument is if stars are as reliable as people WANT them to be.
And they're not.

There's just so many holes in the system.
And Oreo cookie is an Oreo Cookie in Nebraska or Florida.

People view stars in the same light.
- A 4 star is a 4 star. 3 star a 3 star. They're all equal to all the others with whatever star ranking they possess.

Here's some ridiculous numbers regarding high school football players:

There are roughly 1,100,000 high school football players in the USA. Of that, roughly 71,000 will play college football.
An even more ridiculous number is that of the 71,000 there are only about 25 five stars-----so much BS in the star rating system------if you're a great football player and can't attend camps to receive your star rating, the NFL will find you

unless this dude currently has supernatural strength and abilities do you think/feel/know he needs a S&C program to become an SEC starting OLineman?

his current weight is seemingly ow compared to HS kids we're recruiting for OLine.

UT needs to join the Sun Belt then:rolleyes:
You should go be a fan of someone else. Bashing this class before any of the players arrive on campus is just plain stupid. You have zero clue how this class will turn out. Tons of five star players bust every single year, trust the staff to fill the needs of the team.....I guarantee they know more than you!
Golf Pro death match! We have our very own LIV drama!

No.

I have hesitated to mention this but this class is more average than many might want to admit UNLESS they have 3* that are underrated. According to 247, UT has the 4th best class in the SEC. However if you rank by the average score the Vols have a 90.93. That moves them down to 6th. It moves them from 9th to 14th nationally.

That's still very good but unless some of those 3* turn out to be stars... it isn't as good as some seem to feel.

That's where a solid coaching staff that can coach these players up comes into play. Unlike any time in the last 20 years, we now have that.

Agree. Very often the difference between a 3* and a 4* is the quality of coaching they've had in HS.

That's why I believe that the coach that gets UT or really any up and coming program into the top tier of competition will be really, really good at finding "those" 3* guys. The ones that are just as talented but need a little more coaching.
