He arrived here with a plan and hit the ground running. I love it when a plan comes together...

For you skeptics out there, Galilee's post came after a meeting with Butch Jones in Memphis. His information is coming directly from Jones.

I appreciate his optimism... I really do. But he would not be the first UT coach to expect big time commits that didn't end up going his way. Dooley was left at the altar last February. Kiffin had some guys bale on him. Fulmer definitely did.

He knows better than us where he sits with recruits but in some respects our guesses may be as good as his. He could be too close to have perspective.

Jones has a little bit of the Kiffin showman in him though. In measure, that's not a bad thing. Talking it up has a way of creating some "momentum" that recruits begin to believe in. If they don't think other top recruits are serious about you... they won't be either.

Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd, right? Good kids want to go where other good kids are going to go. Jones would be a lunatic to put out any message other than one that suggested that he was going to have a shockingly good class on NSD.

After Kiffin and Dooley I will never again sheepishly follow a person hired to represent my University. I will support the team and if the coach is making my alma mater better then he will get my support. So far CBJ has been doing it right in my opinion with his priorities and his staff has shown to be tireless recruiters thus far. If he wins on the recruiting trail he will win on the field. The recruiting visit with Bell yesterday is the type of effort that is really refreshing.

For everyone who doesn't believe NSD will be good & who doesn't like CBJ talking UT up, how would you feel if he was saying things like "well...I sure hope we can get a few decent signees." Or "I visited so&so today but don't think it did much good" or "gee, we don't have much hope of signing a top class, we just can't do it"
Wouldn't that be a fun coach to have!

I love his attitude & Optimism!

Actually, the Gruden rumors are starting to swirl involving the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys already have hired former Gruden assistants Bill Callahan (Oakland), Monte Kiffin (Tampa Bay), and Rod Marinelli (Tampa Bay). Speculation centers around Jason Garrett leaving and Gruden being hired...with a lot of his coaching staff in place.

This allows Jerry Jones to do the hiring of assistants and keep his persona in place - i.e. being the one and only to control the Cowboys. After all, he is owner, GM, and de facto head coach.

Personally, I cannot see it happening. Too many egos between Jerry and Chucky.

I thought he was Philly bound instead of ut so they said. n not a word.. so now it's Dallas?? If he doesn't go to Dallas one would have to wonder how hart freaked that up...

Cbj will get his due but if he doesn't recruit top 2 or 3 in sec 8 to 9 Wins is the best he will do.. I know we will take that now but if he is the answer in year 2 he has to show huge improvements over year one...like 10 wins...... or we have Johnny majors 2.0. We will be in championship 1 n 6 years at best.

Gbo n we will see final ranking once loi are signed..

I'm pretty sure we had some posters say the same thing about Dooley's organization skills and recruiting prowess a few times the past couple years.

I'm not sayin' they're the same, I'm just sayin'..

All things considered, Dooley did a good job of recruiting up until he gave up this past fall. He was organized. In spite of the turmoil and losing, he got great players interested and had many sign.

Dooley simply was not good enough as a "coach" to make up for a mistake like hiring Sunseri. He rolled the dice in a critical year and moved to the 3-4. It turned out to be a big mistake for all involved.

IF Jones recruits as well as Dooley for his first two years AND he can coach then he will do well. If he recruits better then he will do VERY well... again assuming he can coach comparable to his level of confidence in his coaching ability.

Dooley did an "OK" job of recruiting at best. Yes he was organized but you never heard reports from recruits that they were blown away by their recruiting visit like you have since CBJ became coach. Dooley was a good speaker and and probably scored points with parents. Butch Jones is a good football coach and knows how to connect with these young men in a way Dooley just couldn't. He knows how to make their visits stand out.

he does have the best staff in the country TO RUN HIS SYSTEM. getting all these big name assistant coaches would not have worked, how do you divide the power? these coaches have been successful everywhere they have been and have all worked with each other, and won in the process

Best according to who? Best is often relative. Sure CBJ could have hired bigger names, but that doesn't make them the BEST fit. I have little doubt that CBJ's staff are all on the same page and working towards same goal. Never sensed that with Dooley. Whether the Chuck Smith deal, Wilcox, etc. it was always drama.

i don't disagree with that, but he should have brought in acouple of stud recruiters in my opinion.

i was thinking guys more like frank wilson, daymeyon craig, mike denbrock, fred jackson and the list could go on and on. thigpen is good, just seems like he would have got acouple more considering TN isn't a real talent rich state. who knows maybe he will kill it this NSD. i hope so.

Recruiting is important, but its winning that makes the recruiter. Craig to Auburn for 900k a year and an assistant OC title was a dumb move. Check out Kiffin and Fisher, both have more talent than they deserve and cannot coach them...We need to show vast improvement in the W column and everyone will look like recruiting guru's.
