Some Good News For The Vols

All things considered, Dooley did a good job of recruiting up until he gave up this past fall. He was organized. In spite of the turmoil and losing, he got great players interested and had many sign.

Dooley simply was not good enough as a "coach" to make up for a mistake like hiring Sunseri. He rolled the dice in a critical year and moved to the 3-4. It turned out to be a big mistake for all involved.

IF Jones recruits as well as Dooley for his first two years AND he can coach then he will do well. If he recruits better then he will do VERY well... again assuming he can coach comparable to his level of confidence in his coaching ability.

Haha so funny. That's why high school coaches in the talent rich Chattanooga, North Ga and North Alabama region told the Times Free press Dooley sucked. Haha

CBJ has brought guys in he knows and trust to get the job done. Guys who have the vision as he does. Look at the recruiting this year. This staff is already turning heads and will steal some talent on NSD. The players there now love this staff and say it is so different from the previous staff. Rise to the Top #117

i don't disagree with that, but he should have brought in acouple of stud recruiters in my opinion.

He did, Tommy Thigpen, Willie Martinez, Jay Graham, i like Mark Elder is a great recruiter as well, along with RC Zach Azzani

thigpen is pretty good, graham and the rest of the guys are just ok. the other guys from cincy are below average. he needs better recruiters and it is showing right now.

I agree that we need the best recruiters possible but given the time frame the new staff, as a whole, had to work with, it's hard to determine their ability to recruit fairly.

With that said, I don't know and I'm not that confident that they will be able to win the recruiting battle against the big boys. That's something that will be determined next NSD.

i agree. i guess i was just hoping to be really impressed and as of now we all have more questions than answers. i fear if we go 4-8 next year the big name recruits will look elsewhere.

Turning heads is not worth a dime. Signature on the dotted line is ALL that counts. We will just have to wait and see. If like years past.......maybe next year.

Except you didn't say area doofus. Haha

Do you ever get tired of looking like a fool? I know you are in love with Dooley but even the highschool coaches in the state and region say he was a horrible recruiter. And you come back at me with "you didn't say area" when instead I said region? haha I guess you don't get tired of looking foolish after all. I figured once the disgraced hero of yours was gone you'd man up and maybe change a little. I blame my self for giving you too much credit. I'll never make that mistake again.

It's easy for a coach to come in and get the kids attention, because he's new. Our history, facilities, fan base are top notch, kids notice that.

But our schedule next year is brutal, and I'm wondering how much it's going to hurt once the newness of CBJ wears off and were getting pounded on the field...

I do believe there will be plenty of butts in the seats at all of our home games this year. Can you say packed house :)

First: What?

Second: You seem to think we'll lose eight games for the first time in our history. Everything you say is worthless.

He's right to a degree, but there is just as much of a chance that Butch and Co. will shock people with improved play. Winning a game or two we aren't supposed to will go a long way in next year's recruiting. Losing them all will be about the same as we have been.

It's encouraging to hear things like this but I'm ready to be encouraged by the product on the field.

This isn't a knock on CBJ, I promise. I'm just sick of hearing/seeing all flash but seeing very little substance.

Sorry but the last 5 years has beaten nearly all of the optimism out of me, I'm 100% realist now.
