Somebody Get Tony Jones A Crying Towel.

Are we only talking about seniors? Hat said the other day that a high percentage of Cal's "seniors" have graduated. Bruce has not had many seniors complete eligibility at UT. Who didn't graduate?

2006-Asumnu, Patterson, Watson
2007-Bradshaw
2008-Lofton, J. Smith, Howell
2009-Childress

Those are the only seniors I can think of, and most of them spent either part of or a majority of their careers playing for Buzz.
I also think graduation, while important, isn't exactly critical for the guys who are playing professionally, even if it's not the NBA. The purpose of college is ultimately to launch a career path. And, a lot of college students don't finish in four years.

I have also linked articles to VN in the past showing that the graduation rate for UWM basketball was horrible before Bruce got there - and began to improve.
Here is the thread:

The 'AA's graduation rate measure doesn't give you credit for guys who other people recruited. They measure it by recruiting classes. The improvement at Milwaukee was caused by guys Bo Ryan recruited graduating. Wait til we see UT's numbers for the Ramar/Duke/et al class. It'll be beautiful.

That's true, but Bruce was the coach during part or a majority of their careers. That doesn't change who recruited the kids - but he was the coach when they were going to class, attending team study hall, etc.

I thought Ramar and Duke left in "good academic standing." If so, they didn't hurt UT's APR.

APR and graduation rate aren't the same thing. Both of those guys will be counted as failures when that group's graduation rate is calculated.

This whole staff is turning out to be a joke, minus Jason Shay. He has the personality of a wall, but when it comes to X's and O's, he knows his stuff.

Considering one transferred after a semester and two were booted and that leaves Tabb and Chism. Of course the numbers will be terrible when three of them left the team before they were even juniors.

I agree that the measurement is flawed. However, that's what they use.

Spin?

If Marques Johnson is counted against the graduation rate, then the measurement is extremely flawed.

It's easier to accept Ramar and Duke counting against the graduation rate, because discipline is what sent them packing. You can't just count the guys who make it to their senior year. But, Marques chose to leave and play somewhere else. Also, if Marques can count against UT's rate by leaving, then, using the same logic, he should count for UT's rate if he graduates somewhere else.

You could make the arguement that the quality of the player as a person may have also had something to do with it. While its still a relatively small sample size, you could point to a few examples of Pearl recruits here that haven't exactly been of a real high quality.

hey thanks i personally think Bruce has done a decent job so far. I think last years team got away from him and didnt improve very much at all over the course of the season. But they lost some keys guys from the previous season.

Let me be the first to tell you that entering into this forum initiates into a new world of time and space,,,, your opinion will lead to your being described as a mouth breathing single celled amoeba and then you will be put on the ignore list - especially if you tend to use facts to defend your arguments.

Feel free to fire back t the thrower of insults using said facts backed by notable newspaper articles, quotes from other sources, stats , etc. This will only infuriate and intensify the insults of the offender more, as facts and evidence backed in truth only serve to annoy further.

As for me, welcome to the basketball forum. :p

I'm just getting warmed up on that crew. My campaign against them is going to make my commentaries on Fulmer look positive by comparsion.

Hat how long will it be before you switch you focus to the new football staff?? Do you like them?
