Gruden is coming within 100 miles of Knoxville.....his ego is NFL...not NCAA bull****
I get all that, but how would you like to be a current student and your major all of a sudden is cut because of lack of funds, etc.......
Just sucks in the near-term for some of the students, that's all.
Most of this money has been used for scholarships and fellowships. We will continue to honor these commitments, primarily through private gifts. Let me emphasize, we will not reduce our commitment to students

A stupid and myopic opinion. Athletics generate more than their fair share for academics. If you allow football to go the way it has you have diminished financial returns. You have to spend money to make money.I'll take heat for this, but I'm cool with it.
It's a sad day when we start cutting academic and scholastic opportunities/monies for non-student athletes so you can hire a football coach because "that's what the fans want."
Go ahead and flame away...........Gator, i'm scared of UT, UT is back, etc......I've heard it all.
When tuition is going up for students by double digit percentages every year, this stuff stings other kids even if it helps a fan base when these decisions are made.
Gotta ask the question, why do a lot of people think that Gruden is THE answer especially since he doesn't have the college coaching background? I know a lot of college coaches go to the NFL only to fall on their face.
Waco, The football program specifically and the Athletic Dept. in general has been giving 6-9 million to the University for several years, going back over Mike Hamilton's tenure.
It is my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, that we are the only SEC school gifting that much to the University, by far and away.
Hart said months ago that this was going to have to be looked at and might not be continued, and now it has been addressed.
From what I have heard, TN is one of a very few, and maybe the only, SEC school that was doing this in the first place. So there WACO KID...jk
Appreciate all of the mature responses in here with some detail.
Salute to everyone who kept it classy and didn't get into stupid rhetoric.
Typical response.
Sorry man, but I feel for some of the academic programs that, at least in the short term, are going to lose funding so you can find a coach who can beat Alabama, Florida, or whoever..........as if that's the greater mission in life.
Just wanted to see if any other SEC schools were giving money back to academics and if so, how much.
We aren't the only ones and not even the highest.
