Something is very wrong, VolNation...

I read the first page , that was all I could handle but all I want to know is Kenya on our schedule anytime soon ? if not then who gives a sh$t about Kenya ? Tennessee football is more important than Kenya or any other Muslim country. The OP is more worried about muslims than Tn football. pretty sad

If this disappointing loss teaches you anything, it is that life is precious. Savor the good times and the great wins but put it all in perspective. We continue to improve, just not at the rate we want and desire.

This is where your loyalty is challenged. Do you want to jump ship and be a fair weather fan? I didn't think so.

Now let's support our team, our coach and get ready ready to put a hurtin on Salabama.

Really.

What was that idiot thinking? Football is more important than people. That's why people play football - to become important.

Honestly, I'm getting more giddy by the minute just thinking about all the football there is and all the people to play it. Actually, I think I'm hyperventilating now...maybe I should breathe into a paper bag for a few minutes.

I gotta tell ya, I'm so grateful to have a place like this where I can come to exchange ideas and hard data with open-minded, astute, industrious people who actually take the time to investigate our world rationally and methodically, instead of engaging in emotional conjecture, or jumping to 'people are special' conclusions ... a place where people don't care about anything except what is important - football.

Man I'm so lucky.

In 1912 the Titanic went down. Our beloved Vols lost to Sewanee, Mercer, Bama and worst of all Kentucky. Ice berg, smice berg....who really cares?

Perhaps the OP misunderstands the focus of this forum?

I can't, for the life of me, understand the point of bringing up a tragedy from halfway around the world. If we allow terrorist attacks to keep us from enjoying, discussing, and even criticizing things that are part of our lives, haven't they won?

The only problem I see here is the occasional personal attacks on players or coaches. (except for Arian, have at him :) )

I keep trying to imagine a bunch of grown ass adults freaking out, melting down, throwing tantrums, and constantly berating every aspect of our football program, but I just can't do it.

If that is indeed the case, and the posters here are not predominantly teenage boys and girls going through puberty, then something is very wrong.

This morning, 39 people were murdered at a mall in Kenya, but our world falls apart because a group of young men in pads don't perform to our unreasonably high expectations.

Having perspective is one thing, having the maturity to handle slight disappointments in a sporting competition is quite another.

I've been a Vol fan since I was old enough to know the color orange, and now my kids cheer along with me. But, over the past several years specifically, this board has become a cesspool for every level of over the top complaining I've ever seen.

When I first joined, it was fun to banter, talk through strategies, and even knock around the annoying aspects of the team or coaching staff.

But, now, coming on this board takes all the fun out of the game. I love when we win, I hate when we lose. But, either I misunderstand just how important college football is in the grand scheme, or this board grossly overreacts to something more trivial than we are willing to admit.

Anywho. Take it or leave it. React to me however you wish. I'm open to being wrong, but just wanted to share these thoughts.

Can't wait to see the Vols back at the top, and I'm willing to weather the big and small bumps along the way.

Go Vols.

Great post OP!

Just don't ever say "anywho" the rest of your life :)

The funny thing is some of the people who are freaking out over the Oregon and Florida losses are the same people who predicted in the preseason we would lose to them anyway. So now it's happened and it's the end of the world. It's going to take Butch some time to get players in here in order to compete with the upper echelon of the SEC. Right now, realistic expectations would be to beat the Kentucky and Vanderbilts with strong hopes of beating a Missouri or Auburn and make it to a bowl. Many of you expect Butch to beat the huge rivals while playing with walk on players and Dooly's left overs and that's really not a fair expectation. Butch has got this program heading in the right direction and success will come but he wants, needs, and deserves the patience of the fan base.

A bit melodramatic. I think most Vol fans on this Vol fansite are well aware of the awful things happenning around the world. If you want to discuss them, start a thread in the pub and you will find people ready to discuss them. There are more forums on VN to discuss various subjects, but if all your reading is the football forum, then expect the lunatic fringe. This is where they come to vent. Yes, I believe they go over the top, but it is a football forum on a website devoted to Vol football. If you don't like it, don't read it. Like I said, try some of VN's other forums.

Sometimes, it's not about a loss so much as it is about how you lose.

what am I supposed to say about something that happens on the other side of the world? i hate that bad things happen to people. I wish that things like this didn't happen but I can't do anything about it. all I can say is, my heart goes out to anyone that has suffered a loss to something like this. my heart goes out to people that have suffered a loss of a loved one to a disease or whatever it may be.

I know I overreact to something that's just a game. and, I know it's stupid that I overreact but I love my vols and I want them to win every game. I am a fan and this is the way I will always be. GO VOLS!!!!!

Op this is America not some stupid ass 3rd world country.. why not talk about the people shot n killed in Chicago this week why pick that crap hole country??? U have ties there??

Tn sucks n yes we r pissed if u want to save the world move n get off our football forum.. if not grow a set n demand better play...

This is a football forum, and there isn't anything wrong with people voicing their opinion about our program (good or bad), and for the record, I think the OP bringing up the tragedy in Kenya was a little over the top.

However, it makes me really sad to hear insensitive comments such as this. We are ALL God's children, and He loves those in 3rd World Countries just as much as those in America. Almost 70 people (women and children included) passed away in a horrific crime. If you want to express your concern over those killed in Chicago or the recent Navy shooting, go for it, but please don't disrespect innocent children of God who lost their lives in such a tragic way this weekend.

Did you just become a fan of football? It is what it is & the Kenya murder comparison is just dumb. If you wanna be sensible, rational, courteous, etc you might wanna pick something different to support. Basket weaving messageboards might be a better place.

You do realize that this is a message board put here for just that right? Over reaction or not, this is exactly the time and place for it. Now, I am not one of the posters like you listed but if there ever was a place to cry about the poor performance of some kids in a non important game..this is it. What do you expectbon a Tennessee Football message board?

Bear in mind a message board is only a place for fans to discuss various issues as well as one's opinion and many times vent, no more, no less

Really? I am utterly blown away by the kindergarten comprehension exhibited by so many. The O.P. is not adverse to FB discussion about poor play, the state of the program, where we need help from recruits, how bad we look right now, ect. He was simply pointing out where this forum tends to separate from being educated fans that want the best for a team and constantly devolves into what most responding posters just illustrated better than anything that could be pinned. A lions share of you deserve a pre-k "smiley face" to wear to bed tonight for the one thing that you did remarkably well..........efficated the O.P.'s point without having to wear costumes. So, here ya go little Johnny's!!!:). Make sure to show mommy.
