What do you really expect during the off season? It was the same kind of junk last year until the summer camps and commitments began to pick up.
Wow. Threads like this are becoming the norm around here. One person makes claims about how DD is doing good things and then gets ripped apart by the peanut gallery who thinks that he sucks, followed by 25+ pages of people b*+ching back and forth and throwing out GPA's and SAT scores to validate their intelligence. What's sad is that I would expect this on an ESPN or CBS message board bc usually fans of other teams are always pretty critical, but this is going on between our own fan base. And whether people actually believe that their comments can have a negative effect on recruiting or not, why chance it? On the other hand, if there is the possibility that showing support for the team and coaching staff could actually GAIN some recruits, why not do it?
Seems to me that if you are a REAL FAN of Tennessee then you will accept the coaching staff that we have, whether you like it or not, and get behind the team. It's not like your constant B*+ching and moaning is going to change the fact that DD is our coach, atleast for the next 3-5 years. And ripping the coaching staff is doing nothing for the program. I can admit that I'm cautiously optimistic about our team and coaching staff, but that's because I'm hoping for the best, not the worst, as it would seem like some of you guys are doing.
IMO, I don't think DD has made any monumental mistakes that are going to define his success/failure at Tennessee, at least not yet. And until he does, I will get behind him and the team and hope for the best.
As for the negaVOLS, I can only hope that you are proven wrong and look even dumber than you do now, arguing about something that you have no control over. I guess some people just always the view the glass half empty, just like some always view it half full. I'm one of the half full people. GBO!
The difference is that with CLK most of the fan base was pretty optimistic going into the season and with CDD a large portion of the fan base is bitter and pretty pessimistic going into the season. Why? I have no idea.
I've come to realize that the posters who are certain of what Dooley is going to accomplish here (good or bad) are for the most part very young....like teenage to early 20's
The fact is there are as many reasons to be optimistic as there are to be pesimistic about Dooley at this point...for anyone to claim they're certain of his pending failure/success is irrational and...IMO...a sign of immaturity...
"Even the very wise can't see all ends"
Debating Dooley's worth is pointless, despite your so-called wisdom - none of this unproven **** matters until the end of the upcoming season.
IMO...because Kiffin was built up by the media as the next big thing...mostly because of his daddy...and once he got the job he proceeded to pander to the fans who need constant information to feel good about the program
Again...as I stated in my previous post...I think most of the hopelessly negative on here are younger people who lack the maturity to really handle the current situation we as Vol fans find ourselves in

Did you actually read what he wrote? He said there were positives and negatives but that nothing is certain right now.
The gray hairs amongst us have been arguing this same position consistently for weeks now.
He said the wise can't see all ends... I'd go a bit further and say that the wise won't claim to see all ends.
Kiffin was brash and cocky. He riled people up and flipped off authority... He was the perfect "anti-Fulmer". Most of us were so ready for someone like him that we forgave a multitude of short-comings. Younger fans who had their emotions charged up by the guy just can't seem to let go of him or admit that he was in any way flawed.
Younger fans who are focused on UT also have one point of reference when it comes to a more subdued personality in their coach- Fulmer... and they hate him. Older fans for the most part have a wider perspective. We look at the personalities of Meyer, Saban, Carroll, Tressel, Paul Johnson, Brian Kelly,... and see people alot more like Dooley than Kiffin.

ok let's hear them; where all else are you looking or going? because certainly, if you're so gosh-darn intelligent like you adamently claim (or seemingly yell), then there must be plenty of schools offering you full rides and scholarships; heck UT must be a loss in your case based on the possibilities.
i've only applied to state colleges and/or public schools. theres a difference between notre dame academics and tennessee academics. i'm not going anywhere else, i love tennessee, why is that so hard to comprehend? For full rides on academics you usually need to be around the top of your class, with an awesome sat score. i am nowhere near that and NEVER said i was, like i said private schools and public schools are different. one way or another, i'll be a vol so get over it.
I admit that my post was written in anger - so I apologize to the quoted poster. It seems we agree.
I am frustrated with all the useless banter that seems to be coming from assumptions of knowledge. The facts are that Dooley is UTs Football coach and an intelligent individual.
Coaches can succeed and fail at all levels of sport - so assuming personal opinions as foregone conclusions is just plain ignorant. Alas, I am wasting my time - stupid is what stupid does.
personality alone though doesnt automatically mean someone's going to be a good coach
and while at it, you're age classifications are too broad and incorrect. I know multiple cases of both old fans who didn't like fulmer as well as young ones who wanted someone they felt was more mature (or "talked less and coached more")

I'm about as old a fan that posts here, and while I was a Fulmer supporter for most of his tenure, I was calling for a change his last two seasons. I still respect his accomplishments as I do Johnny Majors, but I was ready for him to go too. It shouldn't be impossible to acknowlege the positives of a coach even though he has fallen into disfavor. Few coaches can maintain high results years on end in today's game, Bobby Bowden finally ran out of steam, Urban Meyer as well. Paterno was way down, and I believe Pete Carrol was on the verge.
my point being, there are alot of intelligent people on this board; coming in and throwing around your high school GPA and SAT scores like you're smarter than everyone else (as your tone indicated) is not only pointless, but you get the response like people are giving you.
