Something that caught my eye....

I went and checked out a few other boards from teams in the SEC, and even went over to USCw board....none as bad as ours..its very sad.

 Damn I miss East Tennessee.

I suppose it's much more rational to act like topics digressing into discussions of a coach's worth is some new phenomenon or that you know things aren't as bad as someone thinks when you've admitted you have no idea how things are going to turn out.

No one knows how this is going to turn out. Why don't you wait until this coaching staff completes at least one real game prior to crying about the sky falling. This recruiting year was good considering the circumstances. Based on the only information we have at this point, there is no reason to believe this staff can't recruit and that we are going to be the worst team in the conference.

who's crying?

The vast majority of the crying being done is by those who don't like that people aren't enamored with the hire.

No one is greatly excited with the hire. Everyone wanted an established "name" coach. That is not what we got. All I'm saying is give him and this staff a chance and see what they can do. If they fall on their face, then we can attack them for not doing the job.

Baloney; I've followed them all too

So Cal isn't going to be complaining about anything; they never have had reason to and are currently one of - if not the - peak program in both the college and the professional athlete production

the south carolina fans are currently grinning fools over the fact that they've gone to 6 win season bowl games several years. heck the fact that their coach is steve spurrier earned their "follow you off a cliff" love, and that he got them to 2nd in the East 1 time is enough for them to want him to have a lifetime contract

before Saban - two years ago - Bama's fans were just like this; Florida's fans (who were the same as Bama's pre-Meyer) are worse too: go onto a gator message board as a vol and see how much unnecessary sh-t you get from them without saying anything

in this case though, the fans reflect the current state of the program, and that's the sad truth here.

if you want to compare a fanbase, you need to do it with a fanbase who's team's in the same position that ours is currently, not the ones who either currently have great, NC teams or the ones that stopped really caring about football years ago

That's what I remember too. As hard as it is to believe now, Fulmer was seen as the fresh, young guy that was being held back by Johnny Majors' conservative tendencies.
You don't know how awkward this statement looks to a 19 year old.

Yeah, so basically your saying the same thing i just said...when you go read thier boards RIGHT NOW you dont read the crap thier that you do here.So yes..we can twist it and say..2 years ago bla bla bla, and 4 years ago when this team bla, bla, bla. Its very rare what happened to us, hard to compare other programs to us right now. Not saying your wrong with your statement, just you took it to a different level..So go have a peice of your Bologna!

My point was:

if you're going to say our fans are in a terrible, sorry state that's much worse than they should be, don't bring up comparisons of schools that are doing much better than us (USC and such) and say "boy, we're not acting like them; isn't that sad"

you go find a team that's in this situation yet their outlook is up and happy or whatever. that's a more fair comparison, and would actually make your point better and stronger if you are saying we are all "Negavols" or can't see the light or whatever

The comparison you made though was closer to say talking about the negativity of say the St. Louis Rams fanbase and saying that they should be uppity like the New Orleans Saints fans.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you though; if you just meant that it's sad that UT has fallen down to this point, then I understand it better. But if you're going more in the direction of "these haters are just going to hate, and they're irrational," then I can't agree with that

I looked at the SEC..thats where we play..i only threw USCw in there cause of thier new head coach..i understand where your comeing from..its all good my friend!

UT's fanbase had more or less come together behind Kiffin. We overlooked alot thinking it was necessary to get the program back to a championship level. When he left, all of the old fractures reappeared plus new ones. At a minimum, there's at least 5 different camps: Those who think CPF shouldn't have been fired, those who think someone other than CLK should have been hired, those who hate the DD hire, those willing to give him a chance, and those who talk themselves into believing the UT HC is great no matter who it is.

IMHO, those who criticize MH's hire of Dooley are off base. I honestly believe that CLK would have won at UT had he stayed... but that is the hire to be critical of. The Reggie Bush thing was already out there. Kiffin's fiasco with Oakland and Davis was out there. Kiffin's ambition was not only obvious but his greatest trait. There were many reasons he should have been viewed as a turnover risk.

We all identified this risk, but didn't think he'd get any opportunities until he'd accomplished something of note here. By that time, we'd likely have reloaded and be ready for a new coach to slide in and succeed immediately. No one was expecting Kiffin to get a better job offer, especially after the rough couple of years we knew were ahead.

Yeah, i agree. I was very excited about the Kiffin hire, and realy thought he would do good here.It was a shock when i heard he had left.

I remember saying something about him not staying long. Can't remember who but a poster I respected said that they really wouldn't mind if he got the talent back where it should be and won a championship... Seemed to make sense at the time.
